Midsummer Update

7 julho 2014

Citizen!

As some of you might already have noticed, we just pushed an update live. It mainly adresses some stability and performance issues some of you have been having. If you find that the frame rate drops significantly during Edie's dream (for example), turning the Animation Effects off will now help quite a lot.

Check this out, you maverick renegades:

• Engine: Added proximity trigger object
• Engine: Added 'Dialogue option' task command
• Game: Improved performance while on game menus
• Steam: Fixed so Chapter 3 shows up in DLC listing [Mac]
• Chapter 2, 3 & 4: Upgraded graphical assets to high-res ditos
• Chapter 2 & 4: Tweaked gramophone puzzle
• Chapter 2 & 4: Improved performance in TV room
• Chapter 2 & 4: Tweaked perspective on third floor
• Chapter 2 & 4: Swapped tea party graphics in monitor 4
• Chapter 4: Removed ghostly jitter if Animation FX is off
• Chapter 4: Removed screen shake if Animation FX is off
• Chapter 2 & 4: Removed TV scanlines if Animation FX is off

Other than that, we hope you're enjoying summer, if you're on the northern hemisphere, or winter, if you're on the southern.

As always, don't be shy if you find something off about the game.

Cheers,

- a

Chapter 5 Progress Update

26 junho 2014

Citizen!

It's been a while since I posted one of these, so I figured I might as well do another one. Progress on Chapter 5 has been pretty strong lately, although a lot of work remains. It's by far the largest chapter in the game. It's hard to go into detail without spoiling the content, so we'll opt for the slightly cryptic approach in stead.

Find more information here: Progress update

Hope you'll like it!

Cheers,

I really don't write reviews very often. However, I felt that this one really deserved one.

The Short:
This is an incredibly well-designed game. The developer's were able to capture that very rare "spark." While it may be a little short (I really took my time and it took me an hour per chapter), it is one of immense quality. Overall 9.5/10.

The Longer:
- Gameplay:
It is your standard point-and-click adventure game. You are given a small story or situation and you have to solve puzzles to progress. My only real complaint, which isn't much of a complaint, is the sudden advancement in difficulty. In the first two chapters, I didn't really come across any problems/difficulties. The third chapter was really hard! You'll understand when you have to make a certain drink.

- Music:
I loved the soundtrack. It matches the situations and environment very, very well. It ranges from the caretaker's creepy jazz song to minimalistic ambience to Silent Hill-esque rhythms.

- Story:
This is easily one of my favorite stories that has come from recent gaming. Without giving too much away, it begins as a simple tale about a couple moving into a new apartment. Soon, it evolves into an (without exaggeration) epic adventure involving the dream world, a science project gone wrong, and horror.

- Graphics/Environment:
The clay animation was a really smart artistic choice. It helps to add a fresh perspective on the genre. The environments are all interesting and enchanting. The characters are... scary looking.

To the developers, I sincerely enjoyed your game.

The Dream Machine is simply amazing. A great story told in a perfect medium for it, with such an unexpected progression. Some of the puzzles may seem a bit illogical and dream-like, but when you get them, you feel like a genius.

It's definitely one of the best story games I've ever played. Very emotional game I reccomend to anyone even if you're FPS only gamer. One of the best games ever. Period.

Slighty dark and a little creepy, dream machine is none the less an amazing point and click adventure game. it plays around with collective unconciense, dreams and what it all means. the puzzles are challenging but fair so far and logical. the story so far is very good. if you like good stories, puzzles or just point and clickers then pick this game up.

I really enjoyed this point and click game: It has a clever story, stunning images and leaves you with a bittersweet feeling. I just played the first 3 chapters so I actually don't know how it ends, but I would already recommend it to anyone who likes casual games with a fantastic plot (that maybe could pass for sci-fi). It also has some pretty weird/heavy scenes but since it is all made with cardboard and clay it doesn't really scare anyone but absolutely creates an atmosphere of hopelessness.

Great adventure game! Puzzles can be frustrating but are really well thought through and that just makes them more satisfying to complete! Really unique and good looking art style, and an immersive attention to detail that puts you in the story
