Easily one of my favorite games of all time half life has a story that will keep you entralled all the way to the end and changed the way First Person Shooters could be developd as before there games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3d that focused on puzzle solving and mowing down enemys similarly to Half Life. Half Life was made by Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington and was made using a heavily modified version of The Quake engine known as Gold Src.The reason I enjoy Half life so much is that it didnt need cutscenes because everything would unfold in front of you so you felt like you were experiencing it first hand. In the end if you can get this game i do reccomend it

In the top 10 list of first person shooter I've played during my whole life, I certainly tell you that Half-Life is on top. It's a masterpiece in ever single detail. I could tell you more, but if I do I would spend my entire day writing. Among monsters like Quake, Duke Nukem, Doom and many others, I easily would choose this story.

What to say about Half Life.....

Okay, let me say that I originally bought the game\'s Game of the Year edition(included Team Fortress Classic) back in...... what? \'98? Early \'99 maybe? Anyway...... The hours you see logged for this game under Steam are WAY off. I didn\'t make the switch from WON to Steam until it was forced on us in 2004.

What to say about the game itself.... put simply; it\'s AMAZING! When I saw the initial opening scenes..... I was blown away.

16 years later, I\'m still playing it, and I still find it a bit of a challenge.

Half Life re-defined the FPS genre, and in such a positive way, it is still selling. It can be argued that the graphics are dated, and perhapse they are. Personally, I don\'t think so. I think they are as much a part of the game as the abilities you get as Gordon Freeman.

Half Life won over 50 Game of the Year awards, and rightly so. If you enjoy FPS games, and this game isn\'t in your collection..... GET IT! It has a great blend of action, stuff to destroy, things to make you think, and lots of hidden Easter Eggs.

The success of this game started it all for Valve. Team Fortress, Counter-Strike and countless amounts of other mods. It had become a hallmark of FPS quality for many years to come until Half-Life 2 came out to raise the bar even higher. This legendary status helps to alleviate the ravages of time the graphics have suffered. But, as any Counter-Strike player will tell you, it is not that bad considering the age of the game, it's still approachable for younger players. The game's design is very variable and interactive, which cannot be said about a myriad of modern shooters. The remarkable sound and authentic music will help to create a memorable, mysterious, sci-fi atmosphere. Xen, being the most criticized part of the game, seemed quite enjoyable to me. It offers a much needed diversion from the rest of the game, most of which takes place in steel corridors. This game represents a milestone, thanks to which a series of events lead to the creation of our beloved Steam. Praise be Half-Life, the Almighty! :)

Half Life 1 is my favorite in the series, it's where it all started and I just love how immersive the game can be. The story as well is quite good and I just appreciate how the game does not take away control from you. Pick this up if you haven't played it, it's a must buy for PC intiates. Do not buy Half Life Source because that version is borked beyond recognition at this point.

Game: Half-Life
Developer and publisher: Valve Software
Released: 8 November, 1998
Genre: First-Person Shooter
Setting: 16-17 May, 2003, Black Mesa Research Facility, New Mexico, U.S.A., Earth
Spoiler-free plot summary: You play as Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist equipped with a Hazardous Environment Suit and an arsenal of military-grade weapons. After an experiment with an alien crystal goes wrong, creatures from another world begin teleporting into the facility and are attacking all humans on sight. You are tasked by your fellow scientists to travel to the other side of Black Mesa, to its Lambda Complex, in order to stop the alien invasion.

Full review: Half-Life is the first game released to be set in the Half-Life/Portal universe. It's one of the few games I keep coming back to play, and in my honest opinion, I think it's better than Half-Life 2.

Half-Life is a typical FPS of the late '90s-early '00s; linear gameplay, a variety of weapons, and puzzle-based objectives.

Half-Life can take probably 4 - 6 hours to complete, depending on how fast one usually plays an FPS; everyone has their own style. Personally, I think 4 - 6 hours is the perfect length to play this game; the environments are varied (science labs, abandoned rocket silos, the desert, an alien world), the combat is fair and fluid, the puzzles are mostly easy, and the story, or lack of, doesn't get in the way of the running-and-gunning. Though, eventually, things do get a tad repetitive, but thankfully just barely and the game finishes soon after.

A short, simple review for a short, simple game. Do I recommend buying Half-Life? Yes, especially if you're in the mood for an FPS that can entertain you for the day. For NZD$11.99, I'd wait for a sale for when this game is $5 - $6 before buying it.

Half-Life also has a third-party remake in the works called Black Mesa, which is built in the same engine as Half-Life 2. I recommend buying and playing it if you think the original Half-Life hasn't aged that well, or are one of the many people who played Half-Life 2 first and want a more familiar experience with the first Half-Life.
