TLDR: John Tanner is the second coming of Jesus.

Barack Obama wanted to name John Tanner as his Vice President but wasn't allowed to appoint an 'Anime Superstar'. John Tanner's leather jacket is so good, cows are lining up just to be made into it. The "John" chapter in the Bible was actually written but John Tanner. Also he has a generic black sidekick.

This game is among my top 3 racegames i ever played so it is a definitive yes on the question whether to recommend this game.

It has a very good story mode, not going to spoil that here. The way you take control of other cars is unique: you are a kind of eye in the sky which can select cars to drive in. This sytem doesn't take much time to master and it is what makes this into a very fun racing game.

You have a couple of different types of events in this game: the "normal" race, escaping the police, there even is a game mode in which to defend a armored truck you have to take control of other cars to make head-on collisions with attacking cars

Yes you can run into trouble with uplay but it is worth the effort to fix those issues, just look at the forums.

Maybe visually a bit outadted but in terms of fun this has a lot good ideas. The story is a bit ridiculous but is a very fun story mode. I wish Driver 1 and 2 even the not so loved DRIV3R to be on Steam. Maybe someday ;)

Flashy, bizarre and light-hearted. Driver: San Francisco is game that lives or dies on a gimmick. But it squeezes all the excitement and entertainment out of that said gimmick. It's a game that prides itself on being fun over being gritty and realistic. Some of the later game missions and challenges do get frustrating. However it's playful enthusiasm and over the top action is so resolute in it's silliness that it's also nearly impossible to truly dislike. It's not the perfect driving game, but amid the cynicism and attempts to be serious video games seem to go through, It's refreshing to see a game let loose once in a while. Also teleporting into random people's cars and hearing their reactions as you cause some chaos never get's old.

I don't know what problems people have with the game - for me works great. No problem with activation, no crashing, no FPS drop, Uplay works fine, lovely gameplay, multplayer. I have no problems playing with my worse computer either (2GHZ dual core, HD5450, Win XP).

Really good continuation of Driver game series. And with shift mode game is just awesome!

In Driver San Francisco, you play a cop who was injured in the line of duty, so the entire game (more or less) takes place in his head while he's in a coma.

His coma is what allows him to do seemingly impossible feats, such as transferring himself to any vehicle he sees and temporarily taking over the driver of that car. It's an interesting gimmick and for the most part it works.

Being able to drive around San Francisco, where all the streets and landmarks are recreated, is really nice. I've only been to SF once in my life (I believe it was sometime in the early-to-mid 90s) so it's not like I know the city well or grew up there. Even so, it's neat to see the TransAmerica Pyramid building in the background or drive down Lombard Street.

Something I really like is that real-world cars are used. I can understand why most developers don't do this, but I prefer seeing a Ford or a Nissan to whatever the developer creates as a thinly-veiled in-game analogue. Surprisingly enough, all of the cars can be seriously damaged (with visual markers as well, such as broken windshields and smashed fenders), which is something you don't often see automakers allowing in games.

There are a ton of mission types, so you don't need to stick with the main story, and plenty of vehicles and upgrades to purchase. All of this will likely keep you busy for some time unless you're attempting a speedrun (which really doesn't make much sense to me, but some people apparently enjoy it).

That said, there are some problems with the game.

I use an Xbox360 wired controller and the controls are pretty damn bad. Steering is loose, but somehow overly sensitive at the same time. You'll find yourself skidding out a lot, often right into oncoming traffic.

Admittedly, different cars have different stats, so some handle better than others, but even so, the steering is woefully inadequate compared to games like Grand Theft Auto 5, Saints Row: The Third/Saints Row 4, or even Watch_Dogs.

My biggest gripe is the limitations placed on the city of San Francisco itself. Although you can slowly unlock new areas of the city by playing through the main storyline, you'll be limited by red barriers for most of the game. For most driving situations, this wouldn't be a big deal for me if it weren't also for the high-speed chases or escapes. It's jarring to run into a red glowing barrier (which, fortunately, doesn't damage your car but resets you in a nearby position).

Also, the "Dare" missions often require you to reach a certain speed for a predetermined amount of time and doing so is extremely frustrating when you're close but suddenly run out of street to drive on. At the very least, they could open up the entire city for missions and then require you to unlock the city later for free roaming purposes.

In case you're wondering, the game does come with music you can listen to while driving, but I didn't really care for it. Otherwise, the audio is fine, but not particularly noteworthy.

While the graphics look good for a game made in 2011, don't let the screenshots on the store page fool you. This game was made to be compatible with DirectX 9 on WinXP, so you won't see many of the visual effects we've grown accustomed to with DirectX 11.

And finally... be aware that UPlay is required to run D:SF. For me, that's slightly annoying, but some people can't get UPlay working (or at least working properly on a consistent basis), so take that into account when deciding to purchase this game.

Do I recommend Driver: San Francisco? If it's on sale and you don't have problems with UPlay, then yes, I would. It's not the best game out there and some of the in-game mechanics are a little wonky (for lack of a better term), but overall it's decently fun and worth the money if purchased when discounted.

I've got this game for more than 3 years and couldn't push myself to playing it, because I fought it was just another GTA clone. OMG I was so wrooong (-:

It's not a GTA clone, you can never control person itself. It's more like NFS in San Francisco and thats awesome! The physics is just right - not too arcade like in the NFS, not too realistic like in Forza. Story is there, but you can (and will) focus on driving. There is official licenses of some interesting cars - from classic mustangs or torino through civil A4, golf or some chevrolets to lamborginy or pagani.

Soundtrack is also great - even though it's repeating after some time. So only drawback remains graphics from 2011, which is so so... So do not hesitate too much and try it while it's still graphically acceptable.

I've decided to make a pro/con list for this game.

Pros
-------
+Absolutely freaking everything.

Cons
------
-Absolutely freaking nothing.

This game transitions from the 3D game to pre-rendered cutscenes very nicely. It has a very awesome story, and the thrills of becoming a cop, tagging a getaway, and then shifting to a bus to murder said getaway head-on is amazing,

10/10

You've got cars, references to classic movies and tv shows with famous cars, a Blues Brothers reference in the game, the ability to switch cars on the move, racing missions, stunt missions and an interesting concept for the main story that was rather well executed. I love it.

Thsi is a game for lovers of 70s and 80s american muscle cars, you can own and drive most of them. Ability to Shift from car to another in seconds sounds weird at first, but it gives you so much opportunities - blocking the way with big truck, possessing drivers on other side and ram them into your enemies... San Francisco is packed with activities which makes this last long and fun all the way.

Definitely Not The Gritty Driver Of Old. (1,2 and 3) The shift thing is very cool, the story might be a little far fetched. None the less a very fun game. Multi player is good also, I also really like the fact that all the vehicles are real licensed makes. Its a fun driving game no matter which way you slice it :D
