Update 2.0.1 Arrives!

The wait is over, Patch 2.0.1 has landed!

Explore Mode
A new game mode has been added in ALL Kingdoms. It is accessible once that Kingdom’s quest line is finished.
Explore Mode throws you into a random battle from its Kingdom, with a few troops changed around to keep it fresh, and in return offers you a double chance of Runic Traitstones, and a triple chance at Arcane & Celestial Traitstones.
As a bonus feature, the Explore Menu shows the traitstones available in each Kingdom too!

Dual Troop Types
Up until now, the poor Undead Dragon had to decide if he was Undead, or Dragon. So we asked ourselves… ¿Por qué no los dos? And now he gets to be both (and he feels whole again).
Apart from relieving stress on the Legion of Undead Dragons out there, this addition is sure to mix up a few team comps as new combinations of troops have access to new bonuses.
Not all troops have a double troop type, but you’ll find a goodly number of them that do!

Troop Type Changes
In order to make Double Troop Types work, and to keep things balanced as we continue to pour lots of new troops into the game, we’ve had to add some extra troop types!
Unfortunately, that means the demise of the Marauder as a type; its members (along with many of the Wildfolk) have run off to join the new factions.

To summarize, here are the changes:
* We’ve added: Mechs, Raksha, Wargare, Centaur, Tauros, Orc, Goblin, Naga, Rogue, Mystic, Stryx, Merfolk
* We’ve removed: Marauder
* Marauders & most Wildfolk have migrated to the types above
* A few Wildfolk have stubbornly remained Wildfolk, and have been joined by a few Marauders who didn’t fit anywhere else.

Status Effects
We have 2 new status effects, and a couple of significant changes:
* WEB: Much like Entangle with Attack, Web reduces a target’s Magic skill to 0
* STUN: A stunned troop no longer gain benefits from any of its traits
* DEATH MARK: We have removed the 2 turn grace period at the start of this effect – now it actually feels dangerous!
* ENTANGLE: This is no longer removed by Attack buffs, in fact it now stops any Attack buffs applying while in effect. Web works similarly with Magic Buffs.

Trait Changes
We have added new Slayer and Bond traits for the new Troop types.
We have added new traits for the 2 new status effects.
* Snare: Inflict Web when doing Skull damage
* Slippery: Immunity to Web
* Stalker: Deal double Skull damage vs. Webbed enemies.
* Knockout: Inflict Stun when doing Skull damage
* Thick Head: Immunity to Stun
* Clobber: Deal double Skull damage vs. Stunned enemies.
We have added 2 new immunities:
* Indigestible: Immunity to Devour
* Mana Shield: Immunity to Mana Burn
We have modified Impervious to include the new immunities.

Balance Changes
Conditional effect based on number of gems on the board increased required Gems from 10 to 13, as 10 was too easy to achieve, and 13 would still be achieved in 80% of those cases.

Troop + Weapon Balance
* Trait Change: Wildfolk Slayer to Centaur Slayer

Brian the Lucky

Design-a-Troop Project!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to a great community suggestion over the weekend, we've decided to do something a little unusual for one of our upcoming troops... we're going to let YOU design it!

Here's what you need to know:

One of our forum regulars, Jainus, has very kindly agreed to manage the whole process for us (it was his idea after all), which is great for everyone, because it leaves us more time to work on the game!

Jainus has kicked off the thread, which is in the Community Content area of the web forums here:

More details:
We will be keeping a watch on the whole process, for both balance & technical & copyright issues. We DO reserve the right to change some stuff, but it will be mostly because our tech might not allow certain traits/spells to be created (our system isn't infinitely flexible, unfortunately).

The troop will be Legendary, so you'll be creating not just a troop and a spell, but also a Legendary Trait!

When the initial design is done, it will go out to art, and you'll get to see the various art iterations as they come in.

And finally we'll make the troop available to everybody when it's done in a Glory-Reward pack, along with some matching traitstones.

The whole process might take a while (art itself can be slow, and changes to tech can be even slower!) but it'll be a nice insight into the design process for everyone.

So head on over to the forums and start voting!

Very addictive take on the puzzle fighter genre.
There's a nearly unlimited level of customization, with both your main hero/weapons and various troops, all that level up and gain abilities.
Add to this a kingdom, questlines, two alternate play-styles (Arena, which is like a draft game, and Treasure Hunt, which is a more casual mode that gives piles of rewards).

Then there's events and guilds, including a world chat and guild chat.
Highly recommended.

Amazing game...

- Very low computing power required and turn based. So you can have this game running the background as you do other things.
- RPG elements and charater customisation.
- Daily log in rewards.
- Chests to open with chance based rewards.

- None found so far. Will list once I find some.

An addictive Puzzle Quest-like game made by the same devs that I have sunk several hundred, almost a thousand hours into now. Early game is a bit rocky but once you get going, there is meaningful experience through the early-mid, mid, and early-late game in both PvP and other modes.

Don't like PvP? Don't worry, Gems uses an AI to control player-made teams that you can set to defend for you and go against whenever you please. Gems is fairly well balanced, with a couple VERY powerful troop combinations, but it is possible to make anything viable for as far in as I have played.

Would I recommend this game? Hell yes. And I have, and I've gotten several friends playing now as well and they love it, too. So jump on in and give it a try. It's free, so the only thing you stand to lose if you don't love it is a bit of your time.

Oh, and as a final note, the developers are incredibly awesome and come on from time to time to talk with the players. They take feedback into consideration and have a fairly transparent design process and are open to discuss anything from in-game topics to daily life with anyone. Wonderful dev team to match this wonderful game.

- Over 200 cards and insane deck customization
- Dedicated devs, 2-3 new cards per week
- Music isn't bad
- New ranking system works wonders
- Most people who complain about cards getting changed don't realise that the cards needed to be
- Devs have a sense of humor in some of the campaigns
- Grindyness isn't apparent for a while
- Gold becomes easy to get.
- Can get any card without paying a cent, can do really anything without microtransactions (besides certain hero weapons, but most people don't even use heroes)
- Capaign stories aren't bad (I cried in Zeajin but only because it was 1 in the morning)
- Casual play, passes the time

- A single Dr. Who reference
- Jarl Firemantle having the huge trait (505 pls nerf)
- Minigames have no point late game
- Mythic cards are underpowered
- All decent microtransactions are ~50 USD so if you do buy in game stuff you have to go big.
- A lot of buffs, reworks, and nerfs come out of nowhere. They always need to happen but usually screw up teams (rip queen mab), but the game lets you refund everything you spent leveling cards that recently got nerfed.
- Need to come back frequently

Overall the game is pretty good, and I'd reccomend it. Of course I have 300+ hours so my opinion may be skewed

This game is awesome. I don't have a lot of cash to spend on games but considering it's hard to Pay-to-Win this still has a fun way to mae it if I can't get my treasure maps or gems every couple weeks. I LOVE CCGs and Match 3s and this combines the best of both. It's not easy to get your teams leveled up, but it's not impossible and doesn't feel like grinding.

@Devs, I would offer an idea?

First, Treasure Maps. I love the treasure maps, though unfortunately the starting number of turns makes them go fast. I'd be willing to pay a little more for more starting turns. Say 10 opening turns and you could name it like it's a location that has been well mapped. If regular treasure maps are made by amateurs, these would be made by profesionals and thus lead you to a better area. I do not understand the price dynamics so this is a wild suggestion, but 3 'Professional (upgraded)' scrolls a day for /10 days/ for $5 OR 3 Professional Maps for 15 days for $7, something like that.

Very addicting.
Really fun.
A lot to do, explore, work towards, and other objectives to persue.
It does a really good job of balancing puzzle challenge, "card" collecting, resource collecting, and more.
I would recommend trying it (it's FREE!), ... but, just be warned, if you're the type of person who gets addicted and obsesses over things like this ... it's really addicting.

Well I've racked up 102 hours on this game and now I'm giving up on it. It's a fun game for a while, but utimately it's pay to win. There are a lot better games for you to spend your time playing, so if you were thinking of playing look around more before trying this one. The games is simply too random, the points system for determining the PvP system is broken and the AI is terrible at running your defence team.

Gems of War: The more you play it, the more you hate it!
On the surface, this game seems like an interesting spinoff of the Dr. Mario ripoff puzzle genre, combined with TCG mechanics, for that extra collectability/addiction.
As you play match-3, your matches give mana to your "troops" which then attempt to defeat the enemy.
One thing that must be clarified is that there is no "PVP" in this game, despite how desperately the game tries to convince you otherwise. There is only PVE against decks the devs put together, and PVE against decks other players put together. When you play against another player in PVP, you only play against the deck he/she last used, while the computer essentially plays the deck.

The first thing you will notice, and hate, about GoW is the CPU player's rampant abuse of the extra turn mechanic.
Whenever you match 4 or more gems, instead of just 3 in one turn, you get an extra turn.
This is a huge advantage, as this means your troops will charge their attacks first, and get that much closer to winning.
One thing you will notice, is there is often no available "bonus matches" on your turn. That is, you cannot make a match of 4 or more on your turn. But then, when the opponent's turn comes, the match you made caused "bonus matches" to appear for the opponent. It is not uncommon at all for the CPU to hand itself extra turns. To add insult to injury, these bonuses matches can, and so often do, lead to more bonus matches for the opponent, leading to the CPU enjoying 3-9 bonus turns before you can move more than once. One could suggest this is merely RNG, but as you play, and you realize that these lucky bonus streaks don't seem to happen to you, but almost constantly happen to your opponents, the excuse that this is merely "randomness" begins to hold less and less water.

Another thing that you will hate is how the game scales the opponents. These are based off of your player level, not the power of your cards. Because your player level will increase waaaaaay faster than your deck level, you eventually end up losing more rounds than you win, until you're simply stuck.

While you technically do not need to spend money to unlock and power up cards, the sheer amount of time required to power up cards is staggering, paticularly the time required to gain "souls" the currency required to level up individual cards. Without spending cash, Gems of War becomes a tedious and unrewarding grind.
In short, Gems of War is technically "pay to progress faster," but in a game where you need to constantly keep ahead of your opponents' power level to stand a decent chance of winning, it ends up feeling pretty darn pay to win anyway.

In short, Gems of War will infuriate any true "gamer", or anyone that believes that games should be won/lost based on skill and wit, and not sheer luck or cash spent.

This game was super fun and thrilling at first. Like kick a** bejeweled or something. The concept of the game is amazing, but staying true to the free to play model bulls**t, I hit the dreaded pay wall. It's not inconceivable to continue playing and getting my a** handed to me because it is fun, but I have far better things to do than to constantly feel like I'm playing wrong when the truth is that its difficulty increases unproportionally when compared to the f2p player's advancement. I can't claim that this is the first game with this buisness model, obviously a free to play game must have some way to generate revenue, but this game is one of the few I have come across that I would have much rather paid $20-$30 bucks for an amazing wide open game than be forced to spend an exorbitant amount of money for a mediocrity of value. In closing, download this game if you want about 2-3 hours of solid fun and then uninstall, or prepare your wallet for the f*cking that is to come in place of your a**hole.

Gameplay 10 out of 10 (I love it)
F2P Model -5 out of 10 (Yeah a negative score, deal with it.) (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)
Score 2.5 (And I am sad to say so with how much fun I was having at first.)

A suggestion to the devs and all devs really, the free to play model should be crucified, buried behind a f*cking rock, and then disappear mysteriously...because Jesus Christ himself should smite the f*ckers who continue with the business model for blasphemy against gaming. Please everyone can we get past this monotony and make great games again?

Games ai appears to be scripted and if not it is the luckiest AI in the history of pc gaming. It gets runs up to 8 matches in a row and 3 of them skulls at times. I've watched it since started playing and it's EVERY game not just once in a blue moon but EVERY stinkin game. The devs "say" it doesn't cheat, but, it sure as heck gets advantages I've not gotten thas for sure. Nearly every turn in every game after the AI plays I have ONE move I can make and when I do it the AI gets a match of skulls or a match of the color I don't want it to get. If it was more random it would be a better game but this to me is not random at all it's more like scripted. AI needs a skull out of the sky drops a skull. All too many times in too many games.

DO NOT RECOMMEND and especially don't give them MONEY for anything unless you plan on giving hundreds you won't get much satisfaction out of it. This is definitely a PAY to ADVANCE game more than a PAY to WIN but it's still PAY. it's Free to play but it's not worth playing if you can't get any good stuff for years.

Gems of War is a very shiny gem indeed!
Updates often
Many kingdoms to conquer
Great for all ages, with some adult humor
Events ocurring monthly with new cards introduced
Guilds are friendly and help you
Not really P2W as my Dragon team defeat most PVP

A bit repetitive after awhile
Grindfest if you dont spend money

So far I've played for 10 hours and have 7 achievements, a pleasing pace. This is a fun twist on three match because there is a competitor playing the same game as you are. I don't think you can run out of "energy" so you can play as much as you want for free. The art is good and the story line is o. k. If you get tired of playing the AI, there is PVP. You get to choose the strength of your opponet which is really nice. I play this when I run out of energy in my other free games :)

I wanted to like this game. Really I did. I mean, it's basically Puzzle Quest, and I LOVE puzzle quest. For a free game, there is a lot of content to it, from quests, to items, challenges, troops for your party, and so on. I should love this game.

Then I ran out of coins, and could no longer play the game.

To elaborate, at the start of the game, you're given a few hundred coins. These aren't used to buy better equipment or level up your soldiers, (as far as I am aware, I may just not have gotten that far yet) they're the currency that lets you play the game at all.
Yes, your kingdom generates a certain number of coins per hour I believe (up to 500 per day max to start) and quests earn you a meager amount, (most I've gotten so far was 9) but every single challenge and quest takes about 50 coins to play.

The cash shop I don't mind. It's a free game, and they need to make money to stay in business. I understand that part.
But I will never understand game mechanics that actually prevent you from playing the game. Any desire I might have for potentially spending money on the shinies is killed by the fact that I just plain can't play the game until a set period of time passes.

UPDATE March 2016

The game is what is and anyone that thinks it looks interesting should give it a go. The dev has added a lot of new mechanics and content and I feel it's certainly improved the game overall. It's truly free to play now (you don't need to manufacture gold while battling to enter more battles after you run out of your kingdom bonuses and daily gold like it used to be, which is only an issue at the start) and it's also available on android, ios and the consoles so if you end up liking it you got a lot of different ways to play it.

It's a total grindfest and you need to get into a good guild if you want to make any kind of progress but overall if you like the gameplay and the acquiring of stuff and leveling it up... game delivers.

Original flip floppy mess of reviewlike substance

If you really liked puzzle quest than this game can be enjoyable provided you don't feel lured into going crazy with the PTW dynamics of the game that make a difference with how fast you progress and how strong you get relative to other players.

If you just PvE at your own pace though and non compulsively it's alright. Stay away if you can't since it's designed to drain your wallet if you let it so with that in mind I can't really recommend it.

EDIT1: It takes a while before you can really afford it but the arena mode is where it's at for free to play players. I got so much stuff out of that mode that it really helped me out with all the rest (as in improving my deck to be more competitive with the more difficult challenges and the 'fake' PvP).

I definitely recommend this to puzzle quest fans that are patient enough to get this to work without spending much if any money.

EDIT2: I played and enjoyed this game for over 100 hours (I do idle but still). I can't in my right mind not recommend the game. The game is perfectly playable for free or you can spend some money during sales to speed up your progress and get a good armor.

Basically if you play smart, you'll be fine as FTP and get a very enjoyable experience if this is your kind of game (ergo puzzle/rpg/strategy hybrid). Just check Tacet's guide for a lot of good pointers and you'll be a gem master... someday.

EDIT3: Back to negative. This game is just too much of a mind screw for those that are susceptible to that to recommend, only try it if you can handle playing and enjoying the game at your own pace and are comfortable now having to HAVE everything that there's to get in the game. I've only spent 2 bucks on the game myself and that's all it's ever going to get from me.

EDIT4: Blah... its basically a lot of fun if you like match 3 and trying out different combinations of troops and the like even with the paywall stuff but if you are sufficiently advanced to belong to a good guild... you can get everything eventually. All depends on the type of gamer you are. No need to go overboard on the spending for the game to be sure with a little discipline.
