About This Game

Once upon a time...

Deep within the walls of a gloomy castle in the equally gloomy land of Draxsylvania, the young, gifted opera singer Mona De Lafitte is held captive by her tormentor, vampire Baron Shrowdy von Kiefer. Ever since she was transformed into a vampire by Shrowdy and whisked off to Draxsylvania, her greatest wish has been to return to Paris, continue her singing career, and one day become a star at the Paris Opera.

When Shrowdy fails to return from a nightly foray, she at last sees an opportunity to flee. Together with her only friend and confidant, a cheeky bat named Froderick, she escapes from her prison and tries to find her way back to Paris. During her flight through Draxsylvania, where she encounters some strange inhabitants and some even stranger challenges, Mona must learn not only to accept her vampire nature, but also to use the abilities she has acquired to her advantage.

I liked this game, despite the several hours it took to find out how to get it to work on windows 8.1/64 bit. The story is very colorful and the location scenery is relatively easy to navigate except, anywhere that the character is allowed to navigate to, it just show a big red arrow! it won't say: "Kitchen" or "Dungeon". As far as getting it to work, I had to go to where the game was installed, in "game" folder, I changed the "libpandadx9.dll" to "libpandadx9.dll2", clicked on "main.exe", and on the starting screen, turned the anti-alising down to "0", exit to windows, THEN I could start the game like normal.

Aside from that, and the fact that this is only "part 1" (no one told me, I had to finish the game to find that out) I enjoyed it. I did cheat a little, I used a walk-through, I HAD TO! some puzzles were like, "How the heck could I have POSSIBLY figured THAT out!?" All in all a good game, I mean COME ON! it's 5 bucks!

A Hardcore Adventure game with many bugs!

Well, if you ever consider to buy this one, have in mind that it may be NOT playable in your system. The game has many bugs that make it a headache. Whoever tries to, please install it under C: directory. Don't know if you have Steam under C: but the Steam client accepts to install a game in whatever drive you want. Feel free to give administrator permissions and I hope it plays because it may NOT...

The graphics are good for an adventure game but I would like a widescreen but NO, there isn't. It has video cutscenes that make it good. It's all 3D and good looking.

The story is black. The game is attractive but after a while playing it you'll feel that you think black, too. After all the game is for late teens and adults. It has many things in the dialogues and in view that newer eyes would be sensitive. The game is full of black humor but ... it has really many dialogues and so many black jokes that in many cases it will be tiresome. You're supposed to be a female vampire that NEVER accepted her later nature and tries to free herself from her master and his castle. The game was written by some makers of Monkey Island series but no way,it's not like them, One more thing you have to consider is that the second part of the game NEVER been made. So, don't search why the game ends this way, leaving many question marks behind.

The sounds are pretty good. Black music and very good voices make the game excellent at this point.

The riddles. You will be SO TIRED of them. Even the hardcore Adventurer will want to see a walkthrough. The game never stops having riddles. Riddles everywhere. And the possibilities are many. Because you have always to compare the new and the OLD and try them too. And it has many things in the environment that you will NEVER use. I was really tired of this game. And if it wasn't an OLD quality game I would place a negative review. I place a positive one for the game. As much for the controls, keep "Tab","Space", left and right click in mind.

If you want to buy at your own risk and the game is playable under your system,if you can handle so many riddles in a very short space, if you like so many lines of dialogues and black humor then this game is for you.

I would say that this is a Hardcore Adventure game with many bugs!

I AM glad I played this game, however, the frustrations pile up all the way to the cliff hanger ending. This was suppose to be part one, but as it was released in 2008 there seems to be no continuation in sight.

The Pros: lovely graphics, plenty of little laughs, interesting characters

The cons: lots of back and forth through scenes to solve puzzels that are unessisarily complex. (illogical methods to logical solutions)

A great example of how annoying the puzzels can be...
Increase the fire in the furnace by throwing perfume in the furnace. The increased heat melts the snow on the tree branches filling the water basin. The water in the basin freezes.
Use the shovel on the window to tilt the filled water basin. The ice falls in front the door.
Use the pickaxe on the door to have more space on the base of the door.
Use the shovel in the furnace to make it red hot. Use the heated shovel on the door. It melts the ice and it formed a puddle of water on the floor of the office.
Use the bellow on the puddle of water. Use the bellow on the furnace to put out the fire. Escape out the furnace. "

I just finished chapter 1 of this game. When am I gonna start on chapter 2? Good question. Thing is that while this game is fun and enjoyable the game is sort of unfinished. I enjoyed the game and the characters alot but found it saddening to see that the game has been put on hold. Seeing as they didn't have the founding. However I still enjoyed the game and would love for more.

I would recommend this game only for those of you who would like a fun and quirky character selection, with a point and clicker game. The sad things is that the game is saddly still not finished but I am hoping with some support from its community the game will take of once more.

Also I bought it when it was on sale. Keep this game in mind while a sale is on and buy it and enjoy it.
