Battlezone 98 Redux Mods Competition

Calling all Battlezone 98 Redux players! Whether you’re a mod master or a newbie (or you’ve never even tried modding!) we’re giving you the chance to WIN a brand new Toshiba gaming laptop, as well as a whole range of awesome prizes. All you have to do is show us your best mod!

Here at Rebellion we love mods of all shapes and sizes, and our aim is to get more players to not only download mods, but create their own!

That’s why we’re offering awesome prizes to 5 LUCKY MODDERS, including a brand new Toshiba Gaming Laptop, AMD GPUs and CPUs, and Rebellion Anthologies!

“Isn’t modding hard?”
NOPE! For basic mods all you need is a little patience, a good knowledge of Windows Explorer and your favourite image editing software.

To help you get started we’ve created some handy guides on building a custom skin and multiplayer map below:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=713335452
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=665881032
So, what do I need to do?
To be in with a chance of winning, we want you to create the best mod you possibly can, whether it’s a new skin for your favourite tank, a new HUD design, a new multiplayer map, an all new Instant Action (singleplayer) map or whatever you like!
Then, simply upload it to the Steam workshop (or hosting website) before August 4th so that our expert Battlezone 98 Redux judges and moderators can have a play!

Full instructions can be found at the bottom of this page.

What are you and the judges looking for?
We’re looking for a whole variety of mods, and we want to ensure that both modding masters and cadets are in with a chance of winning so we’ll be judging on many different levels! Some of the main things we’re looking for are:
  • How original is your idea?
  • How creative is your design?
  • Is it fun to play?
  • Does it add to the Battlezone universe or do something completely different?

Is there anywhere I can go for some modding help?
The Battlezone 98 Redux forum on Steam is a great place for anyone who wants to mod! It’s full of helpful moderators who are always happy to chat (or maybe even test your mod out) and there’s a dedicated section for modding! There’s also a guide section, where you can read a number of guides on how to create and upload mods.

We will also be browsing the forums and assisting players where we can, but if you’re really stuck, head over to our support page and send us a message and a member of our support team will get back to you as soon as they can!

One of the greatest sci-fi strategy games of all time returns Spring 2016 with remastered visuals, online multiplayer, and near unlimited mod content from Steam Workshop.

Enter an alternate vision of the 1960s where the “space race” is nothing more than a cover for an interplanetary war between the US and Soviet Russia over mysterious alien bio-metal.

Take command of an army of sleek heavy assault tanks, strike cruisers, APCs and more, and wreak havoc with super-heated projectiles in your mission to blast your enemy from the face of the Moon, Mars, Venus, Titan, Io and Europa.

Scavenge the battlefields for crucial bio-metal, deploy powerful defenses, construct advanced facilities and escalate each battle to an epic confrontation.

I'm not normally nostalgic for old computer games, always moving on to the latest games with the highest graphics, but BattleZone was unreal for 1998. I haven't seen this game in 15 years and it's as good as I remember. This redux is excellent and it's the best $20 I've spent this year.

1st Person, RTS, Base building, Resource Management, Hovertanks, Walkers, Sniping dudes out of their cockpits and stealing their ride. It's one of those games that still holds up despite it's age.

A childhood favorite for me. Been playing since 1998. Definately worth playing. I still have my original copy, but decided I wanted to support the re-release. I'm hoping they will eventually make a battlezone 3 if enough people buy it. It really is a unique and addicting game. There isn't another quite like it.

Keep in mind this game came out back in 1998 and it still beats many current strategic games in so many ways. Battlezone achieved something no other game could've ever dreamed of, it stayed unique and revolutionary. Battlezone truly is, a classic

Five Word Review: A nostalgia trip worth taking.
Favorite Thing: The combination of first-person tanking and strategy.
Least Favorite Thing: Placing builds? Terrible AI pathing/following? Crashes?

Playtime: ~ 15h
Enjoyment: 7/10
Recommendation: Only if you're on a nostalgia trip.

I used to play the demo of this game as a kid incessantly way back in the 90's and got my hands on the full game from the Place With Things in later years. Hell, even then the graphics hadn't aged well but the gameplay was still fun and as an astronomy geek it was great travelling throughout the solar system...and blowing it up! Sure, it's living on past glory but I still think it's a good game. A nice base building, squad managing shooty-shooty time sink. I've died a lot more than I used to so the challenge is definitely still there.

Definitely worth the 10 quid.

As someone who has been with this game since childhood, I cannot recommend it enough. This remaster remains incredibly faithful to the original vision, keeping what worked and only improving what needed to be improved. With dozens of new features for modders and map makers to play with, support for all the original community content, and visuals enhanced by none other than the game's original lead artist Carey Chico. There isn't much else one can say, having been with the game so long, than that this remaster should be a gold standard for all other companies looking to revitalize older games.

Call me biased, but I love this game, and as other community veterans will shun this remaster as being "too different" from the game they remember, I can honestly find very little bad to say about it, certainly nothing that would fit in a short review.

I give this remaster a 9/10, and hope to give it a perfect 10 as future patches and both official and community content smooth over the few remaining rough edges.

I bought into nostalgia and I am not disappointed. Great to have a mechanical complex "old school" Game back which goes beyond the modern form of tank driving were you have to "hit the fire button from time to time". Here you do combat at high speed with hover tanks while base building including resource gathering while managing your forces all under your command in real time.
