9/10 – Hooked Gamers

“COMMENDATION FOR DESIGN 2014 - At every stage Endless Legend shines. Where it takes from the past, it puts its own spin on it. Where it innovates, it does so cautiously and mostly successfully. About This Game

Create your own Legend

Another sunrise, another day of toil. Food must be grown, industries built, science and magic advanced, and wealth collected. Urgency drives these simple efforts, however, for your planet holds a history of unexplained apocalypse, and the winter you just survived was the worst on record. A fact that has also been true for the previous five.

As you discover the lost secrets of your world and the mysteries of the legends and ruins that exist as much in reality as in rumor, you will come to see that you are not alone. Other peoples also struggle to survive, to grow, and perhaps even to conquer.

You have a city, a loyal populace, and a few troops; your power and magic should be sufficient to keep them alive. But beyond that, nothing is certain… Where will you go, what will you find, and how will you react? Will your trail be one of roses, or of blood?

Explore fantastic lands.

  • Lead one of eight civilizations each with a unique gameplay style and storyline.
  • Survive through cold dark seasons that drive Auriga to its end. Will it also be yours?
  • Experience an endless replayability with randomly generated worlds and quests.
  • Set the size, shape, topography and more... to create your own world to discover.

Expand beyond the unknown.

  • Conquer, build and develop villages into feared fortresses or wonderful cities.
  • Assimilate powerful minor factions and use their special traits and units wisely.
  • Hire, equip and train your heroes to become army leaders or city governors.
  • Raise your civilization by finding mysterious artefacts and forgotten technologies.

Exploit every opportunity.

  • Evolve your civilization through the discovery of new advanced technologies.
  • Collect Dust, luxuries and strategic resources tradable on the marketplace.
  • Keep one step ahead of other civilizations through trade and subtle diplomacy.
  • Choose from different victory conditions and adapt your strategy on the fly.

Exterminate fools who defy you.

  • Experience an innovative dynamic simultaneous turn-based battle system.
  • Use unit equipement, abilities and the terrain to overcome your opponents.
  • Zoom out of a battle and rule the other aspects of your empire seamlessly.
  • Define your custom civilizations and confront those created by your friends.

This game is really great. I will say I find that the "increasingly long winters" mechanic makes the experience kind of depressing, particularly toward the end of the game.

The game itself is wonderfully intricate, beautiful, and engaging with a deep variety of strategies, play-styles, and endless (pun) creativity.

However if you want to play this in Multiplayer... Forget it

The amount of bugs, errors and issues my girlfriend and I have had trying to;
1) create a multiplayer game with a stable connection
2) reload a multiplayer save file, and
3) keep our games synced
have been absolutely ridiculous.

Now come on Amplitude Studios. I'm aware that you are currently in development of your latest title but for heck's sake FIX THE GAMES YOU ALREADY HAVE!

One complaint, no vape resource. THis messes with my play A LOT. Without #VAPENATION, what is life. But honestly Holy Resource, this game is good. Like researching Mill Foundry first every time good.

This is one of those games I desperately want to love, but every time I go back to play another campaign I find that it just really isn't that fun. Every game seems to turn into a dull march, a chore of grinding spreadsheet management. Not exactly sure why, but it seems that somehow the game mechanics are tuned such that you are forced into having to play every game as a min-max rush for expansion/war, even though they have a number of other possible victory conditions. (I should note that I have only played single-player vs. AI, so I cannot comment on multiplayer)

There are a lot of cool aspects to the game, most notably the visual style and graphics, and they do add a few interesting new mechanics to the 4x genre. The overall look and feel of the UI is generally pretty nice too, when you compare to older titles such as Civ V.

So, anyway, I am giving this a reluctant thumbs down. If Steam had a thumbs sideways, I would have chosen that instead.

This is what Elemental could have - and SHOULD have - been.

Best description for this game from me is that Endless Legend is a 'post-cataclysmic-event science fantasy genre blend of Civilization and Age of Wonders'. If you enjoy either of these games I strongly recommend snapping it up; the combat options are excellent, the cities requiring less micromanagement than most 4x type games, and the game storyline and history that you unravel through each of the races is not only unique but incredibly detailed.

There are a few quirks with the game (trade, diplomacy, city placement), so I do suggest that the tutorial game be played through, even by the more experienced 4x gamers, just to familiarise yourself with them. The only real beef I have with the game is that there are a couple of race options that require some serious rebalancing; in the game's current state they'll kick you to the curb if you have a human player running them properly no matter what you do... except ganging up on them, which is never fun...

So all in all, I give this game a 8.5/10. I haven't played it in a while now and there have been some DLC expansions released in the meantime, so I may re-evaluate my score further down the track :)

Wow. This is really something. Its in a completely different league from Civ or any of those space games, and not (just) because its super polished, bug free, and has awesome replayability. It has a story that drives the gameplay and factions that are unique in ways that go beyond "+5% construction bonus" and "+10 army morale bonus".

The AI is really good. Like, really good. You will be able to win on normal, but it won't be because you're roflstomping the AI into doing stupid things like sending its armies into baitstacks and declaring wars it can't win. And the difference between when you first play and when you know what you're doing will be day and night.

The bonuses in this game stack in a positive feedback kind of way--if you have enough money to buy that extra resource, you will more than make your money back, allowing you to buy that other resource to increase diplo point production so you can get that more advanced empire plan and have more money.....etc.

1. Each faction really plays differently. Especially the cultists. You could win almost any kind of victory with almost any faction, but you definitely have tools available to you to make one way much easier than others. This is all draped in some really good lore that you're rewarded with by completing quests.

2. The winter mechanic really drives home the whole "end of times is coming" theme.

3. Battles are amazing. There is a lot of awesome character animations, tons of units, and lots of different strategies to try. Why? Because battles don't just take place on one hex, they take place on a unique battlefield every time that is drawn from the terrain of the surrounding squares. You can look up on youtube what that means, but in gameplay terms it means your units getting caught in a narrow bottleneck, archers firing down death from cliffs, armies being hemmed in so tight they can't reinforce, and flying units getting into your rear to wreck your archers are all things that can happen.

Battles are also on a timer, so a smaller high quality force can definitely give a larger army some trouble. Said larger army can also then counterattack on their turn and wipe them out if they're not careful.

4. Army customization is awesome and based on resource acquisition. Proper planning to get said resources, research appropriate techs, and balance costs/benefits of more expensive units are much more important than in other games. You could try to just make an army of all juggernaut titans, but it may not be the best thing to do, as they may be too slow to destroy any units in battle.

Bad Things:

A. The endings are pretty hollow. Its like the ending of a paradox game, there's a screen that says you won and then a score screen, and thats it. I'd like at least a recap screen like civ had where it shows you how the game went over all the turns or some kind of reward, like additional lore being revealed depending on how you win. Something like WH: Dark Crusade, for example.

B. The UI is good, but not excellent. Not really a bad thing, but its definitely not the smoothest interface I've ever seen.

C. Thats it! I can't think of anything else bad about this game.

A game which I really tried to like. It has a beautiful style , music and atmosphere but it fails overall.

The game has a complexity that walks the line between fun and tedious. It feels like a job after a while: it's repetitive and the exciting moments are too few. The matches take too long and so little things are happening. Most of the time you will spend micromanaging little things and pressing next turn. The Quest system is nice at the beggining but repetitive and boring: just move your units to a place or spend X ammount of resources. The science system is good but they won't give you anything unique, a lot of copy-paste techs. There is little diversity between each game.

Overall is not a bad game but it didn't win me over.

This is one of those games where you expect one thing and get something completely different, and this is really something good different. Yes it does have some similarities with most games of its style, gather resources, build upgrades, research tech, fight wars etc. I’ll run through the positives then negatives…

The Good; Fairly good AI, with a working diplomacy, this game is not tweaked by cheating but by actually trying to beat you by playing the game with the same rules as you. Excellent factions, each with a unique feel and style, making it worth playing a few times with each new faction/race. Some brilliant mini game mechanics such as winter effects and side quests. Nice battle strategy mechanics with some pleasant character animations, tons of units, and lots of different strategies to try. Army and character customization is excellent and based on resource acquisition.

The Bad; The games can be long not a big completely negative considering the style of game but can mean you take a huge break and when you do finish you are left with lasting end story or cut scene but a simple score scene. This is sad considering how detailed each faction and race is with such a detailed backstory.

Overall excellent game with very little wrong, thumbs up!

Better than Civ5.

Not as fun or charming as Master of Magic.

Not as engaging as Civ4.
