We are pleased to announce the latest update to X Rebirth which takes the game to 64-bit, allowing the game to make better use of your PC's available memory.

NEW: The 64-bit EXE is now the default. See below for more information.

If you encounter serious problems with the 64-bit version and would like to try reverting to 32-bit then you can subscribe to the 32-bit "beta" using the Steam client. To start using the 32-bit version, right-click X Rebirth in the Steam client, select Properties, go to the Betas tab and select release_32 from the dropdown list. If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows you will automatically receive the 32-bit version of the game, though such Windows versions remain unsupported.

Note: The system requirements for the game have always stated that it requires a 64-bit version of Windows, and future updates for the 32-bit version are not guaranteed indefinitely.

Steam does not currently support automatic crashdump upload for 64-bit applications. We are therefore using a third party tool to provide this facility. If there is a crash then a standard crashdump will be created and uploaded to the third party site, from where we can perform analysis to determine the cause. As with Steam crashdumps no personal information is included in these crashdumps.

Lastest update 1.30 patch makes this game very playable. The X-Series games are sandbox after the storyline campaign. The campaign is huge and everything works, of course there are tips on the forums for some parts. I stopped using all the mods and really enjoy the vanilla game now. Once you have your first station running you will see how much depth in trading you have to manage. Assign some ships to your station and they will take over some of it for you.

Space is beautiful and the universe is much larger than even X3 Albion Prelude. It is divided differently, but not smaller. I have a fleet of ships patrolling sectors and many transports running wares all over trying to keep my business profits up. Every transport destroyed has an impact on the market due to the products it would have carried.

There are many ways to edit your 'save files' but I've learned that it spoils the game. The fun of winning, for me, is gained by figuring out how to earn the credits and build your empire and not just giving yourself millions of credits. When you play this game just be prepared to spend many hours/days/weeks learning about the markets and the universe. Egosoft does make it easy to start playing, but the depth of their previous games is still here in X-Rebirth. Bookmark this website: http://roguey.co.uk/xrebirth/wares

For those looking for information on the game since 2.0/2.1. I have spent alot of hours in game since XR 2.0/2.1. (Free play) If your wondering if you should buy the game, I strongly recommend waiting another 6 months before picking this game up.

The games performance has improved but there are still a number of issues with the game.

A small list of the most annoying:

Ships not refueling I spent a good hour trying to get a couple of my ships (with jump drives and space for fuel) to refuel at a station. They dock then undock without picking up any cargo.

Stations not building Construction ships are VERY flaky on whether they are actually going to build for you or not. They wont build if they're even remotely close to other ships and often wont build for a very long time even after getting all required materials.

Pathing Ships still ram stations instead of attempting to move around them.

Crashes Occasional game crashes for no apparent reason

Huge performance hit in hi population zones (I have a high end machine, this shouldn't happen)

Ships in fleet on combat missions Your fleet ships are not by any means accurate and they don't give a dam about reputation. If your doing a combat mission near a station expect to get into trouble with the faction that owns the station.

Mining ships not mining Self explanatory, sometimes they will just ignore their orders and chill where ever they are. Their info says looking for minerals but the ships themselves aren't moving.

Cant dock Occasionally you cant dock on your capital ships (fresh undamaged capitals outta shipyard). This means you cant assign crew to the ship, if you cant assign crew then the ship is often useless. (really annoying with construction ships)



You need to rebind the controller to be able to target enemies.
You have to hit up or down every time you want to move up/down on a menu, you cant hold the up/down button down to move quickly through items.
Setting quantities is really slow, quantities are set with a slider the slider does start moving quicker after holding the up/down button down for awhile but the delay on this is far to long.

Economy: *This is non existent, npcs spawn the materials they need out of nowhere.

Lack of content / Size: This is the major one for me. The universe itself feels extremely small, the space available to build your empire is very limited, there needs to be way more clusters with a lot more factions (with some of them actually fighting it out). There definitely needs to be a lot more hostility to the game in freeplay.

Reliance on NPC construction facilities: You cant build your own shipyard, unless i'm dropping the ball here and missed this completely. (wtf on this one)

Limitation on where you can build a station: You can only build stations on designated construction points. I never played X3 or before so I dont know if this limitation existed previously but in a sandbox environment I should be able to build stations where ever the hell I want.

Finding specific NPCS: I spent a few hours looking for a specialist for a station I built. I tried talking to ships and tried 3 different clusters (Albion, DeV and Omicron) and still couldn't find the npc I was looking for. I suppose specialists aren't meant to be easy to obtain but you shouldn't have to spend hours upon hours trying to find someone to give your station a 2% bump in effeciency.

Trading: Even with the trade computer the trading system is still garbage.

NPC chatter: NPC's will flat out say no to your requests.

You: Where is item X? Them: No. This is incredibly frustrating, if an npc has no interest in talking to you they shouldn't answer the hail or they should give a valid excuse to give some indication to the player what they need to do to be able to get the required information.

Updates up to and including Version 2.0 corrected the majority of the launch bugs and added a lot of requested features. The game is fully playable and depending on what you are looking for can give you hours and hours of fun.

Also with 2.10 (In Beta) there is a native 64bit executable which should address some of the resource issues.

One thing to remember is that X games tend to take a while before they get to a state where people love them.

X3 had a bad start and really didn't shine until version 2.5 yet now it's one of the greatest space sims out there.

There is a lot of bad threads in the forums and Egosoft did earn a lot of hate from the poor release. however they have spent the last 6 months fixing things as fast as they can and adding requested items as fast as they can. There is still work to be done and we hope that within a few months they will move from a bug fix mode to a new content mode.

That being said, remember when reading reviews, a person's opinion really only matters if you are that person. I like the game, I have since launch. There are a lot of people that do not like that game. A lot of that is related in the core gameplay. It's different then X3 and a lot of people do not like that.

If you are looking for a X3 clone with some new flashy graphics this isn't your game.

You'll also note that alot of the reviews were done 6 months ago and do not reflect any patches or the 2.0 update.

Updated on 5/29 to reflect 2.10 changes. 2.10(still in RC stage) introduces a native 64bit executable.

Since Update 1.25 alot has been fixed, performance, trading simulations, station building, AI interaction, and the AI's ability to defend itself when engaging in a Capital warfare fight, your capital ships starting to blast everything out of the sky that attacks you, even set the defence officer to engage anything hostile within the area you pass through, its a LOVELY! yes lovely sight to see a taranis start shooting drones out of the sky and hear the capital pilot your engaging scream for help

ive had a break from the game since update 1.23, and when i say alot has been fixed, it has.

extremly low crash rate, if a ship gets stuck on station, easy fix, command it to stop its action fly away from the area and return after its followed you to your area command it to fly you back, and make an reorder, very simple fix now ive not had to reboot the game, not even once since update 1.25.

to all people who had trouble befor give the game a try now.

the game is a wonderfull place for huge space battles!, stations vs a flok of 20 taranis's? Sure! you might loose a couple of them but hell its a good fight to watch and join in with!

This game is horrid...
..First all, I'm a fan...err...was a fan of egosofts since imperium....I don't even know where to start when trying to describe the badness of this game....Here we go, I'll grade it on X amount of things

1: Story...
It is bad....you are dumped into the story not knowing who you character is, and you WILL NEVER find out....you'll know more about your copilot..the god awful Yisha, then yourself....Yisha is horrid but I'll get into her later....As the story progresses you WILL hit a wall, this game does not like deviations from the current missions, doing so bugs it, or breaks it....careful following the quest marker blindly as it can bug you or lead you off to a place no where near your mission thus. Full of plot holes..one after the other...I describe it as egosoft randomly picked employees to write different chapters, the employees didn't talk to eachother and then they just pasted the sotry together...BAM, Xrebirth story...the ending to the campaign is the worst ending I've seen to a game...the most unepic boring thing you'll do that leaves you feeling lost when you finish the game...The story is linear, like i said, deviate and you'll just screw yourself....Devries has very little resources and no stations providing an AOE ware bonus so they consume them quickly....if you get there to slow, you will HAVE to hack your save to get the plot going again....

2: Artificial Intelligence....
It doesn't exist in this game....Anything you encounter you can destroy WITHOUT upgrading your ship....no skill needed...if the combat AI needs to attack something it'll to a beeline straight for it...3 shots and it'll die and it won't do any dmg to you in the process...90% of the time, AI will ignore you until you attack it..after that it'll target you, but usually you'll blow it up in 1 second so it won't matter...(I'll talk about trade AI later in the trade part)...Larger cap ships are also the dumbest ships you'll encounter...even in numbers, just get behind them, destroy the engines and the ship is basically a sitting duck...just strafe shoot kill hide behind it, let shields recharge, rinse repeat, launch boarders and the ship is yours...some ships have weapons defending their engines but they are few in numbers and you can easily dispatch them...this is how you make money in the game...nothing else will come close to the amount of money you can make by capturing succs for 18million and selling them every 15 minutes....cha-chang...If you do play, you'll encounter bundles of ships just sitting there waiting for you to kill them....awesome....Escort ships take routes into buildings and then get stuck, I've watched 4 police ships hump eachother on the side of a station cause they couldn't figure out that they could go UP...Seen cap ships just fly thru everything, but this is intentional as if they didn't they would never get to their intended targets when you call for them as any ship in the sector can't figure out basic navigation....what do you mean I can't just fly thru this building..why not....
I don't care what the fanboys say, the economy is not dynamic...you see ships flying in the sector but they don't trade, ships don't go from sector to sector...it's an illusion...I believe it's an area of effect kind of thing...if your station makes this item that the stations around it could use then it supplies them just by being around it....I've explored every aspect of trying to figure out how the trade system could be dynamic and everything in the game says it isn't..except egosoft....they also say every ship has a purpose but they don't..only ships that have a purpose are yours, everything else is just there to make it look like they are doing stuff but they are not....Now when you start trading you'll encounter the horrid trading AI...it takes the most god awful routes to things...my advice..leave the sector, something changes when you leave a sector. I was watching these trades for hours just waiting because you hit a brick wall in the plot and you have to trade to build...well, after hours of watching this ship just circle around, I left to do a mission, Bam, done as soon as i got a few sectors away...wtf...so I did it from a distance with the trade software...BAM...almost an instant trade...well, this should be a clue to how the engine of the game runs in the background.....ships aren't moving around in the background....

Space graphics are great....flying around...awesome....but this can get boring really quickly....Now, NPCs like Yisha...holy hell did they screw the pooch here....they are awful...whoever thought this was a good idea should not be in computer programming or have an artistic job....They all have this joint at the base of their skull so when they turn their necks it's like the exorcist....they all look old and fake, seen better NPC graphics in games that were from 2001...The dialogue in this game should just be erased...especially yishas...it sounds like they just grabbed people from off the street to record dialogue...nothing makes sense and they are all somewhat hostile or way too friendly...and get ready to hear the same stuff over..and over...and over...and over...sometimes in rapid succesion...missions where you kill something in a sector..kill 10 ships really quickly, and you will...you'll hear the same thanks, station probably blah blah blah, guess you want money..blah blah....Every dock seems to have a bar..but I guess its a strip club without the strippers...probably for the best..if I saw one of those Npc's in a thong I'd barf...Yisha has the largest camel toe, the station pictures all scream sex sex sex...but nope..none...least yisha could give you some road head on those highway adventures...more on highways later....hate this game...
YEAH!!! minigames, everyones favorite right...well, what they did here was turn minigames into nightmares....need loot..awesome, turn on the ping thing and go out to space and repeat the same process over and over looting lockers...yes, lockers...millions floating out in space full of junk that you can sell for 100 credits...oh boy, loot a million of them and maybe you will be able to afford your first upgrade....there are also lockers and boxes all over stations and vents...cant forget vents...again, full of junk, steal it all, no one cares....The highway..i spent more time in these highways staring at the butt of a ship then actually fighting....Someone at egosoft was sitting in traffic one day and decided that this would make an excellent minigame....fire that guy....if it was bernd, go find another company to work for as bernd no longer holds the interest of ANYbody.....more mini games include some dialogue Bs but your responses don't match anything and you won't know what to do....I can't express how much I hate this game...it is horrid, don't buy it, buy another game...
Review is 1/10....the 1 is for graphics (in space only) the rest is garbage....

PS..if you think the mods will fix this....they have already abandon ship as egosoft made this game unfriendly to modders....
PSS..if your waiting for patches....egosoft will be gone soon, they ♥♥♥♥ed up badly and will have to declare bankruptcy soon
