I feel like they kept all the bad from previous X games but scrapped all the good.
I've played all games of the series since X2: The Threat and it was getting better and better until X Rebirth which is the worst one in my opinion. I just hope what's coming next will be the worthy sequel Albion Prelude deserves.

First off, Get it, I think you will like it a lot epecially as its not nearly as expensive or load intensive as Eve Online or Star Trek...

If you're new to the modability of the X universe you probably don't know this but, the X3 universe had great components to it. It still had profound limitations that the raw Vanilla or un-moded program had that confined what a mod script could actually do. Like you couldn't make the text size bigger very easily...

Why? To many conflictual errors that bleed into other scripts. I imagine that XRebirth will still have parts that a mod can not change and will have to come down the pipe later from the dev's. For this reason, I will add all my comments as I have played with about 80-90 mods installed right now.


GRAPHICS: See system info at bottom of review.
- This is a very immersive space sim, much more so than X3, and most other space sims ever could be.
- It's visually astounding in many ways w/(ULTRA SETTINGS) and I love that you can not only pilot ships but that you can move around them.
- I can't say anthing has seemed "glitchy", produced atrifacts, or caused the texture panels to split when you are close to them at just the right angle like a lot of open world games have issues with. It's refreshing in that arena for sure.

- Stations are vastly more complex, beautiful, and formitable in combat.
- The change from weapon "energy usage p/sec" to "over heating" is and interesting componnent that makes combat more user skill dependent and less "cookie cutter" when piloting fully out-fitted ships.
- In the "skunk", M6 Corvette class, your 5 main assult weapons have their own unique applications and it makes for some more realism. Sometimes I'd switch to the wrong weapon and well, if I were a space pirate, in the heat of battle, I might just do that so.... again... more immersiveness.
- Sheilds, Engines, and Weapons can also be modified to fit your play style, tanky high sustainability, high damage dealing but overheats quickly, agile and fast shotting or a mix of all.
- Combat, especially with regard to capital ships is much better. You can target individual weapons turrets, engines, and other ship components like radar to help ensure boarding opperations.
- Boarding opperations are also much more complex allowing you to disable engines and weapons before capturing.
- The addition of diverse and specialized crew holds a lot of promise as well.
- Drone piloting is much more fluid and clear. In X3 I had very little idea when or what they were doing.
- Scanner functions and Hacking give a modicum of chance regarding profiterring,treasure hunting, and sabotage.

- The story line seems decent and the missions that are available have greater realism.
- I have only logged about 35+ hrs but, have found it to be very fun and awe-inspiring.
- There are many worth while mods now that give the game greater depth, character, ease of interface, diversity, and fluidity.
- Most of the Vanilla music while flying is great at setting more immersive ambiance.

- Having to scan all the parts of a station is tedious for sure. But, they look so cool! My favorite is the one with the mono-rail train transporting on top of it! They have unique sounds and characteristics that make the whole floating in space to investigate much more cool and worth the time invested.
- The addition of so many craftable items is interesting but, how does all that stuff not take up cargo space??
- Saved game and startup load times are substantially longer... maybe its time I got a

To a large Extent the videos add depth to the main plot missions but they are overall lacking in orginality. I think more will come through mods... we will see.

- The highways and station scanning are interesting components. Unfotuanatly, they necessitate "no collissions" being instituted. Infinitely bouncing off stuff with speed and size of objects being completely irrelevent, is gimmicky to say the least. It does distill the immersive experiance substantially.
- Where are the Boron?? They had some pretty cool ships. Especially with the "living hulls" mod...
- There do not seem to be very many ships in this version of the X universe yet. There is some diversity among races still but a lot of bleed over. As in, multiple factions if not all use the same sets of ships... maybe more comming?? Its been 2 years or more already...
- - - What happend to having "Wings" with different color codes?

- Needs a lot of work.
- I don't see how you can "lockout" the ability to command a MORE experienced but not full 5 stared engineer on your M6 from commensing 100% hull repairs and need to dock somewhere to use another, LESS experienced they have access to full schmatics or something??
- The inability to command your docked ships crew at all when on a station is just stupid. That needs to change. Com Badge??
- The "Property Menu" was much better organized and complete in X3. Now, it doesn't show your personel at all, even though you have so many more types of them... why?
- - What would it take to be able to move piolts around?? Now, your pilot gets sold with the ship?? That is annoying...
- - Setting up a squad and quickly initiating commands has always been a problem in the Vanilla versions but this takes it to a whole new level. I have spent way too much time trying to figure out why I couldn't give commands to a secondary squad or crew memeber and only through the "details" menu under that persons info... Too many levels deep. What about a similar interface to drone selection?
- Why are your bargans with particular traders only good for that visit?? Too much to load and remember? I don't like having to do the more complex conversation stuff through the psudo-dice-rolling-manipulation-interface-thing everytime I wan't a deal. Especially with the 1-2 minute load times when mistakes are made..

- If you are going to hack something, you should have choices. I DO think it should be bouned to what a console can do but NOT in such that its just a general "Hack" that gets the pre-destined result...I'd like something like, I'm in, now what can I do, how much time can I stay in?

Having written this little book, a good number of the cons will probably be changed through mods. Those that can't be will hopefully grab the attention of the Devs to focus on for updates. They have already come a long way since its launch and I'm very happy to pay for this version of the game so far.

With 6 hours into the main story there seems to be tons to do and the space feels endless with many paths to pick. The atmosphere is tick and just slowly fly past a forest/farm on a large space ship is a great audiovisuall experience :).
The ship control feels right with the mouse/keyboard as well as the handcontroller and the game runs great on a "old" 680 with the resolution 1920x1200. I would recommend a SSD for this game because of the small load times will not be felt such as when an old HDD is used.

So, for the price of €17 "X Rebirth Complete " is really a great game if you are into sandbox, 4x, sim.

Dont mind the overal "Mostly Negative" reviews because they are mostly for when the game was in 1.0-ish.

Years later, the devs are still making futile attempts to change this game into something that lives up to X3 TC/AP. I want to give them credit for trying after all this time, but that feeling goes away when I remember that I paid money for this.

Much simpler version of X, and that's not a bad thing. Great for new comers. I've played the series since X2, and did not regret buying this. It was a nice change from the complex mechanics of normal X.

The only problem with this game is title. Most of X series fans considered X: Rebirth as the next game of X series. But it is better to call this game as spin-off from the X series. I hope Egosoft will make X4 as soon as possible with classical X2/X3 style and without old problems.

Some words about X: Rebirth

This game is good itself and it has many features which are not presented in classical X series such as first person walking at stations and seamless world. Unlike X3 in X: Rebirth you will see full featuired cockpit and a second pilot. Generally this part of the X series has very different gameplay.

If you fan of classical X series you may be not happy about this game but X: Rebirth is not bad - its just very different. I would not recommend this game for everyone who expect evolution of X2/X3 game,

I'l also notice that this game would be much better with VR support (for example, OSVR and HTC Vive).

I just got the base game (update 4.0) on the Summer Sale, so I haven't seen the broken launch version or any of the bad stigma.
I'm enjoying it so far. I have X1 and X3:R, but never quite got into it. I guess I'm not a 'purist'.
I've finished Freelancer and loved it, which is why I got this. Let's see where it goes.

I purchased it when it came out but reading all the screaming that was going on made me wait. Also I loaded it and I thought I accidentally started a powerpoint presentation. The 4.0 patch really does make it a totally different game. It runs great and there was so much to do! I commend the team for sticking with their game and not leaving it like it was.

X3:TC and X3:AP set a high bar. X:R doesn't reach it, but is still a decent game. On its surface, it seems like a straightforward upgrade to the X3 games. The same core mechanics are there: you fly around in a universe with rich lore, trading, fighting, or exploring, whatever suits your fancy.

Lots of people have gripes about mechanical issues of the game, like the highway system. That doesn't bother me. The universe is less dynamic than X3 (pirates don't really affect the economy, for example, they just constantly send small squadrons to die). In some ways, the mechanics improved: the addition of surface elements to capital ships is a really great addition to combat that makes small ships pack a huge punch if used effectively. But these minor issues aside, the real problem with X:R versus previous X games is lack of content.

By content, I don't mean amount of space to explore: there's plenty of that. But there are relatively few types of ships and stations to buy, and you can only fly one ship, which is bad, although you can mostly get used to it. The amount of lore and numbers of factions is cut down significantly from previous games.

By far the biggest problem is the relative lack of subquests or subplots. Once you've beat the campaign, the game is completely open-ended. Not open-ended like Skyrim, where the only problem is choosing which of the thousands of quests to do. Open-ended as in, there essentially ARE no other quests (except repetitive, randomly generated ones), and sure you can build stations or blow up stuff, but it all feels quite pointless. The pinnacle of X3 was quests like the Hub Plot and Player Station, which gave awesome rewards in return for huge amounts of financial engineering. In X:R, there are a few sub-quests that give you cool rewards, but they are all of the form "find these items randomly hidden throughout the universe". It would be enormously tedious if not impossible without internet guides, and with them it becomes trivial.

So, in future expansions, it would be nice to add ships or factions. But what the game really needs to step things up a notch is things to DO in the X Universe. It's still worth $30 but not yet worthy of the X Series IMO.

The first X game where the combat and general gameplay is really fun! I've loved the X series for a long time and invested hundreds of hours but it was always hard work and didn't really click for me. I bought X-rebirth a long time ago on a whim and only started recently but I'm hooked. It's a lot of fun to fly around, explore, fight and build my trade empire. Definitely recommended for Freelancer, Eve and Elite fans.

Initially very disappointed in this release, but after watching a few video's explaining how to get started, it's quickly growing on me and I'm seeing the depth and inspiration that has gone into it. Most difficult and annoying aspect is still navigation in terms of maps as well as navigating lists showing what I own. This greatly hinders the initial ability of a player to easily dive into the game and get a sense of things and probably one of the big reasons it's not more popular. It's difficult to quickly determine where your assets are or issue orders to them because the navigation is so heirachael and each level is so simple. I would like to see the addition of the old style lists with perhaps some very good filters allowing you to quickly see what you have and where it's at and what it's status is. Need that 50 foot view of what I have, and not wanting to have to drill down over and over to see basics. One would think this is basic smart U.I. design.
Another good example of this would be trying to find a decent captain or engineer for one of your ships. You are forced to repeatedly drill down and ask them to show you their skills, which is redundant clicking and annoying. These cases need a nice neat list you can look through so you're not wasting your time. This is the difference between a well designed menu system and one that was slapped together with a lack of forethought about how real users play the game. Other than the navigation usability issues, and the cartoonish colors used in some systems, the game does seem to be very cool and I'm getting a lot out of exploring and learning what's out there. It has a lot of character.

Lets get 1 thing out of the way before i begin, i know a lot of people are disappointed that you cant personally use more than 1 ship. yes it stinks but this game was never designed to be that kinda game, so rating it as such is abit unfair, if you didn't keep up with the press pre-development and didn't know this, then that's your own fault.

So lets get started with my short review.

Egosoft has a Long History of Releasing games that simply don't work on launch, they have MASSIVE potential but they don't work on launch... THAT SAID, they also have a long history of sticking with their products post launch to fix all of the launch bugs, add content, and add community feedback to the game in order to make it amazing.

You will never see me fanboy for or back up any other developers, because they simply haven't earned it. Other devs always disappoint and never do for their games, what will Egosoft does for it's games.
Egosoft is one of the rare devs that shouldn't get rated for their games on launch, to be fair YES it deserved the bad score then, but all of the newer players don't know what us older fans do, and that's that ego doesn't abandon its products. if we wait patiently, a year or 2 later we will have an amazing game to play. Don't believe me? Just look at the new reviews, they are positive!

I highly recommend anyone who gave this game a negative review in the past, reinstall this game and take a 2nd look around at all the new stuff that has been added. Their are also a number of really good mods to try. Personally i have a lot of mods and have a very customized immersive and enjoyable experience each time i login.

Next time you buy a Egosoft game do so in good faith.
Install it, don't play it, wait a year for them to patch the problems its guaranteed to have on launch, then come back and play. It will be everything you hoped for and more! They are a very small studio and it takes time to make a good game.
Also after you have beat the game, dont be afraid to come back from time to time and try it again. Egosoft has a wonderful habit of adding new things to their games after post launch, and all through out its life for years after.

First I would like to talk about launch, as in my view people kind of gave up on this game right out the gate. This game was unfortunately scarred by a bad launch, rightfully so as the game has its few bugs, flaws, and quirks, as ALL brand new games do. Though most people only spent an hour or so before they ran into some minor game stopping bugs and threw in the towel without even a second glance. For those of us who stuck around and could spare 15 min without rage quiting, looked to the incredible fan base who had our backs with bug work arounds and guides to help get through the troubled launch. After launch and a few days of blasting past bugs and finding work arounds we started getting patches, which have fixed a major amount of bugs making that first hour easier to play through and the game itself easier to complete.

Now I want to talk about the game itself. This is a great game, my favorite of the bunch so far. As expected of the X series this game requires time to progress and unfold into a larger and better game. The depth of this game is immense, and even with 130 hours I still feel as though I have many more hours to go to even begin to master this game. Weither it be trying to run a mining operation or becoming a professional bounty hunter this game always provides a unique challenge. The story line is very well put together and seems almost like a huge extended tutorial, making you learn and rethink constantly. Though tutorial is putting it kindly, as this game will not hold hands with you the whole way, instead this game gives you the push to leave that spaceport and find a path on your own.

All in all, I can reccommend this game to anyone who enjoys space/sim/trader/exploration games. If you give it the time and the effort this game will keep you coming back hour after hour for more fun and more adventures.

Ok, I was really, really mad when this game came out because I was so damn excited about it. I had high expectations, because I LOVE the X series. I own every X game that exists (and about 5 or so other space sim games).

Let me just say WOW, now that the game is working and running amazingly smoothly, 1 crash in over 20+ hours of gameplay, that may not even have been atrributed to thier game engine. The frame rate is awsome on my GTX 770 maxed everything.

The grahics are next-gen for a space combat game, they are amazing and fun to watch every, single time.

SPACE COMBAT:space combat is fun and the AI is better than most space sim games out there. It can get repetitive after a while doing nothing
but combat for hours on end but you can just go do something else, build some stations, conquer sectors commanding your capital ships and just watching the battle
from a commanders perspective. You can start a trading empire, or become a pirate and depoy remote detonation bombs on ships... it goes on and on.

As a Uninty game engine developer, I'm pretty amazing at what you have achieved with scale in this game. At first I couldnt tell if some of those large scale objects (Planets,Shatterd Moons) in the background were part of the skybox. I am very impressed with how you scaled the game and made it look so good. Though I suspect some kind of trickery at work with your Shaders! You should let me borrow some ;)

You can board ships and take them over. nothing new here BUT, the pods come out of your ship and attract to the target like an action scene in a sci space film. So far it has been fun to watch every single time. Im addicted to capturing enemy space ships at this point just to watch the pods fly out. (they could add some drilling and molten metal types of animations and particle effects to make them appear to drill into the surface).

-The sound effects can get a little old, if we can add more varition of sound effects and voice overs for the expansion, that would make this game more imersive and truly make it the greatest space sim ever made. Also, they need to write a script to limit how often a voice over is played from a single character controller, since you tend to click on them repeadedly when shopping for better crew members or ammo for your ship. You hear the same person repeating themselves 2-3-4 times... its annoying!
-`They should add the voice over limitor function to the ship as well to keep it from reapting based up what the condition was that produced the previous voice over sound effect.
-I had to look stuff up on google alot to find keys because there are SO MANY controls, there are controls for your controls! The control edit needs a form input search element to search through available controls quickly! This will be extremely usefull and save alot of time for beginners! Most people will be customizing thier controls. I am using keyboard and mouse and hated the default layout. I went from bad to pro once I changed all of the key controls and practiced for a while.
-If you run in between two colliders it will bounce your around until you clip through into the interior of a station or a ship. It has happen to me many times and had to retart because your cant clip out from the interior. You need to control the unrendered side of your verticies and add a program
to remove the physics colliders from the non-rendered side.
-Your "bounce" physics on colliders needs to be toned down, so that clipping is less likely.
- Also sometimes ships in your fleet clip through objects and get stuck, then I believe your fleet will bug out if that ship is within its group. Your fleet wont travel through gates if a group member is stuck. Mabey I'm wrong but,
I had a ship clipped in a station and my fleet would not travel through a jump gate within any time frame. It seems the bugs I have encountered are more or less related to kinks that need to
be worked on in your physics engine. You guys are awsome though for what you have made with such a small team.

I'm sorry that I was so mad, I did not realize the scope and the work that is needed to make a game like this until I actually became a game developer myself and learned c#. You guys should of just
delayed the game another year and avoided that mess and you would have made ALOT more money. Does'nt your CEO get that? Seriosly, that crap launch you pulled hurt your sales!

If you like space sim, BUY this game. It does have a learning curve, but it is well worth it to experince the fleet combat and amazing visuals and to realize that when this is improved slightly, it will
be amoung the top space sim games ever made if not the best single player space sim every made.

Not a buggy, completely broken mess anymore at least. But it's still just bad by design.

It's extremely difficult to interact with fleet ships in a meaningful way. You can't even dump unwanted cargo from have to SELL your ship to get rid of it, for example.

Essential drones for mining ships are often not in stock at all at the ONLY place or two you could buy them.

STILL contains stupid forced "station scanning" minigames that NO one in the right mind wants.

Can't dock small fleet ships with capital ships. Still can't repair small fleet ships easily.

It's not an X game, and it's not even a good space sim in its own right.

It's just a pile of failure.

Egosoft has done a lot to make it better, to be fair. Which is to say, to make it NOT the "secretly pre-alpha we pretended was a finished product" pile of crap that it was on release.

Unfortunately, almost all of the core design elements are just really bad by design. It "works" as intended ... poorly.

Just skip this one. I've tried it again and again since release, and the ONLY thing it's never failed to do is disappoint.

It's just not fun, and it never will be. 0/10
