Did you enjoy D&D? Do you not have time for it anymore?

It's okay—nobody does. But next time you have a bachelor party with your nerd friends, get your drinks, buy the Yawhg, pick someone to click and narrate it, and laugh as everyone goes balls-deep into tragedy and comedy.

I really enjoyed Emily Carroll's "Through the Woods", and her illustrations in this game add whimsy and horror in the best way that could be done. There's no live narration but there is a constant contemplative soundtrack that adds to the meaningful experience. The game will surprise you, even if there is a bit of repetition to be found.

TL;DR The music is good, the art is good, the price is good, and the satire is good—the Yawhg is good stuff.

A game modelled after a choose-your-own-adventure. It's unique in it's story telling, and you're likely to get a couple of hours gameplay out of it - but it has nothing beyond that.

You can control one (or four) characters, each mapped to a different direction on your control pad. Don't worry, the characters are 'controlled' through menus. You choose where a character should spend it's week - each choice has a different outcome, gives different stat bonuses, and influences the town you live in.

After six weeks, the Yawhg arrives. The rebuilding effort starts - you need to use your characters, and the skills they've gained to help your town survive.

The art in this game is gorgeous, and probably it's selling point.

Would I recommend it? Sure - I enjoyed playing it. But it's not something I would pay full price for.
Grab it on a sale.

Excellent casual cooperative role-playing game.

For this game, you can choose from 4 characters (you need at least two) who take turns each week for 6 weeks at 16 different jobs around the city. Each job comes with stat upgrades and varying events that are at their best when they relate to each other: something that happens to one character can have an effect on what happens to another character later. Generally, the outcome of an event depends on whether you made a choice that your current stats will support: physique, finesse, mind, charm, magic, and wealth. Then the Yawgh comes, then there's another round that determines if the group has won or lost the game, and then each character gets their own ending. The writing is really nice, surprising at times, and the music supports it well.

You can easily play this game on the couch with up to 4 players, just pass the controller/keyboard around (or connect more controllers), but of course you can also control all of the characters yourself. We did three quite enjoyable couch play-throughs on another account, and they took about half an hour each.

It is not difficult to win this game. We wanted to play it more than once because one time is clearly not enough to see all the different things that can happen, and to reach all of the endings would take many more. Events start to repeat at some point, noticably so on our third game, but since there are choices and stats involved, many consequences of known events are still unknown.

This is a good game.

This game runs on my old Windows XP computer. Since texts are short and only move forward when you push a button, it is suited for learners of English if they have someone to explain the vocabulary ("leeches", "lutes" and "cantrips" aren't exactly basic vocabulary).

I played this game with my brothers and we had a great time. It is somewhat boring alone but with a couple of friends it's fun. By it when it's on sale, 10$ is a little high. I picked it up for 4$.

The Yawhg's main draw is the art and stories of Emily Carroll. I liked her comics and so bought the game, but was honestly disappointed. The 'game' is nothing more than a collection of Carroll's stories told in a branching narrative fashion. The game functions by having you choose what each character is doing each week but results are unpredictable and seem arbitrary. Each game of The Yawhg is very short, not allowing for any sense of attachment to develop with the characters you're controlling. Ultimately, you're just clicking around to see what pops out next. While I love the artwork and scenarios that occured, I can't help but feel this really should have just been a series of webcomics rather than a video game. Overall it left me wanting.
