"A colorful squad tactics game with a modern theme. The UI can be a hassle, but otherwise this indie title is worth a look while it's on sale this week."

Nieuwe DLC beschikbaar

Today, after you update the game, a new game mode will be available for you.

What exactly are waiting for you?

4 sets of missions in the same environment as the main game:

  • Events in Mexico when one of the characters was captured by drug mafia;
  • Events in Mexico during an operation against drug mafia;
  • Events in North Korea;
  • Events near the coast of Somalia during the protection of the cargo vessel.

Each set consists of 12 missions. Some of these may be familiar to you, and some are brand new.

Every mission is a tactical puzzle. You will be placed to certain conditions. In spite of this you should win with what you have available. After completing a puzzle, you will proceed to the next one, and so on.

In addition, some new details will be added to the storyline for the main game.

The new mode is isolated from the main game, and progress in one of them will not affect the progress in the other.

Enjoy the game!

Widely known in small circles as AntiSquad, they are a military tactical response unit. These hardened military professionals, tired of bureaucracy, politics and serving the armed forces, have established a private paramilitary formation located in south United States. Being true military professionals, they periodically execute contracts for jobs that may not be considered “clean”.

The Team consists of many complex individuals with their own back story, but they do not shun mercenary applicants. Members of the team are idealists; they dwell on moral issues, as well as question blind nationalism, etc. AntiSquad strongly differ from military units. They truly are a bunch of contradictions put together - heartfelt cynics, gregarious egoists, aggressive pacifists, and phlegmatic rebels all under one banner.

The game could be fun, i've tried to pick it up several times. But its pretty obvious, the game was meant to goad you into buying coins in order to upgrade your team members. Earning coins without completing missions is next to impossible and completing missions without upgrading is...difficult even on "easy" It could be fun but its just like everyone else says, its a mobile game port.

Is obviously a game designed for tablets and the PC version hasn't been thought out at all. The controls are a pain to use, and it even says "tap here" a lot of the time.

Very lazy port.

Some very nice things in this game but ONE major flaw.

The content is very small, i did finish half the campaign in like 2hours. But the game can be very long actually because if you want to finish it you need some good gear.

To reach this, you need a lot of money and when i say a lot, i think a huge amount of monney. Only one way to get it, redo and redo again the same missions. Count like 10 times each (just a guess, from how much upgrades cost in shop and how much you gain from one mission)

I cant see a cheapest way to make a game "long".

Anyway i gave up after 4 hours of grinding on the same exact mission again and again. It wasnt fun.

But if you think 5 euros is fair for a couple hours of original gameplay, you can try it.

This game frustrates me to no end, because it starts off great. Act One is easy, but makes great use of the mechanics and has some decent drive to it. Sadly, the translator and play testers for the game appears to have quit the second they saw Act Two and Act Three, because everything after the intro is a trainwreck. The levels are boring, the interface has no idea how to click the right spot on the map (and misclicks are harshly punished), Act Two's difficulty is just adding hitpoints to the bad guys, Act Three instead just gives them suicide bombs, a million movement points, and the ability to instantly know where you are, while the writing goes from vaguely forgettable banter to nonsensical gibberish. (I'm convinced that the "witty" banter is bugged and it's only supposed to be playing one or two lines at a time and instead plays all of them. It's the only way to explain this, unless everyone contracted Parkinson's disease in between Act One and Act Two.)

Oh, and it's a port of a mobile game so you'll want to use Cheat Engine to bypass all of the grinding. It knocks off most of the playtime this title has (it's amazingly short), but there's no reason to replay the same missions over and over again just to get around the obstacles they intended you to pay to bypass.

All told, if you can get it super cheap then you'll probably get some good fun out of Act One. If you enjoy trying to decipher Russian to English Google translations then the stories Act Two and Three might amuse you as well, but the gameplay is awful.

Antisquad is a turn based tactical shooter strategy game along the lines of X-Com: Enemy Unknown. There is a lot of style and personality to the game with its characters. There is a bit of skipable dialog before and after each mission. A lot of the fun and challenge comes from the combat. It is a game of chess, 3 troops of your choosing vs a small army. Your troops are just as frail as the enemies. You need to be smarter than their numbers. Enemies become alert when they spot your troops or see their allies die. It feels like a port of a mobile game. Everything is a mouse click, so it feels very click heavy and if you can overlook that, its a great game for its customization and combat.

You have five troops at the start, but you can hire more. The troops are basically a sniper, a scout, a explosives expert, an assaulter (armored weapons melee expert), and a heavy gunner. Each of these troops has two of their own special abilities. One is a special attack like a dart to slow enemies, a knife to break through enemy armor, a grenade to do area damage and the other is a passive skill that lasts a few turns and has a cooldown, such as a smoke screen to hide allies, armor increase to increase the armor of everyone around and so on. Everything your troops do cost 'action points' and all characters start out with the same amount of AP. Moving, attacking, using skills and reviving fallen allies cost AP, but for each character, every action costs a different amount of AP. So the scout's movement costs 6 AP, her attacks cost 12 AP and smokescreen costs 54 AP vs the sniper's 40 AP attack and 30 AP dart skill. The only thing that doesn't cost AP are items that you find or buy in the store. If one of your troops has AP remaining after their turn, and an enemy attacks them, they will fight back if they have enough AP. This allows you to let enemies come to you.

Since it is turn based, everyone on your team gets to use all their AP and then everyone on the other team gets to use all of theirs. The game does a good job of showing the distance you can travel with the remaining AP, but shows how much you'll have left when you're done traveling and even what distance you need to be in order to attack someone. You will need to double click for most every move, because the first click is just to show what you'll be doing. Click on an enemy to see their stats and what things you can do to them, double click to attack them. One click to see where you'll move, the AP you'll have left and how the enemy will react and double click to move there. You get the idea.

One way the game seems shallow, there's no sort of hit percentages, fog of war or height advantages like in other games. Its all just flat terrain with objects and walls for cover. There are no destructible environments. Again, its not as deep combat strategy wise as other games. There's still a lot of depth in upgrades.

Before a mission begins, you can buy items, guns, gear and upgrade each character for a cost. Upgrade their attack damage, movement, armor and so on. Every layer of armor is just an extra hit they can take, such as someone with 3 armor can be shot 3x before it'll drain their health. Once they're out of health, they're down. When they're down an ally can revive them, but if they aren't revived in X amount of turns, they're gone from the mission, but not forever.

The missions have simple objectives, get to here, kill all enemies, blow up this or that. Sometimes you'll have to push buttons to open doors or operate things to kill enemies. Some of the areas are pretty straight forward, but others allow for flanking and different routes. Each mission feels like a healthy amount of gameplay. Not just that, but when you head into each mission, you chose your difficulty from four difficulties. Its a nice feature and adds replayability to missions when you need to grind for gold to buy upgrades.

So when I say port of a mobile game, to me that would send up red flags of 'pay to win' or microtransactions. There seems to be none of that here, all of the gold you get in the game comes from winning (or losing) missions, completing challenges, killing enemies and clicking on them. Yes that's right you need to click on dead enemies for whatever reason. I guess that prevents wasting turns from touching each one. Some enemies can drop power ups for the mission that you need to have your troops physically collect. Enemies know to collect them instead of you to power up themselves. Other times, you get crates that when you are between missions, you can open them and have random loot. Some games charge you $2.50 to open crates.

In all, the game feels simpler than other tactical turn based games, yet still a lot of fun. The depth comes from the customization. Its a beautiful game to look at and that adds to the enjoyment of the game. It feels polished for a $6 game and I got a lot for my money, even if it is click heavy.

A very obvious tablet/mobile game, that really does not transition well to PC. Huge UI elements and text had me checking my resolution multiple times, and poor design choices mean that instead of a port which takes into account the multiple differences between PC and mobile it disregards this entirely - having to click on everything instead of being able to hover the mouse to just check movement range becomes tiresome quickly. As a mobile game I would recommend it as it is actually somewhat enjoyable and has a comical and colourful art style and aesthetic, but as a PC game and poorly made port it's obvious that this is a missed opportunity that unfortunately is just too painful and forced to be enjoyable.

Decent turn based strategy game, however it is somewhat degraded by the remnants of what no doubt was a micro-transaction system in the mobile version. As a result you need to replay some of the first missions several times and grind for coins just so you could upgrade your characters to even have a chance in some of the later levels on normal difficulty.

Apart from the coins grind, the menus and options are very basic, with little to no graphics options.

A missed opportunity by the developers to make this into an iconic PC strategy game, if only they overhauled it more and removed the stench of a mobile port from it.

Despite it's flaws, for the price of 5,99€ it's not a bad buy, and if its in a bundle or on offer it is worth getting. It could have easily been a 15€ game if the developers put more work into it, maybe added some voiceovers, and redesigned the unlock and level up mechanics and options for the PC.

A strategy/tactics game with nice graphics, decent story, and somewhat stereotypical characters and situations representing various countries. If you're not willing to grind out old maps for gold, then this game isn't for you because replaying maps for gold is pretty much mandatory to make later enemies easier. If you're not good at tactics games or don't like taking things slowly, this game isn't for you because there are enemies that can easily kill your characters if you aren't prepared because they have enough Action Points to move large distances and shoot many times.

Right now I'm up to the third campaign, Morning Star (if you include the first tutorial campaign).

The english in the beginning is pretty awkward and poorly translated, but it gets a lot better later on. There are still some mistakes/oddities ('Eliminate the elite forces. None of the squad should not perish.' and 'Above the rate of fire!'), but the dialogue between characters is acceptable.

After the tutorial maps, losing a map after clearing some enemies nets you ~3-10k gold, while clearing a map gives ~25-40k. The costlier upgrades cost ~27k-40k and opening the tier 2 reward boxes requires ~15k each. You will probably want to clear Normal stages first and ignore higher difficulties until you upgrade your characters enough. Since you don't get much gold, try to concentrate your gold on upgrading a couple core characters that you use (upgrading Teddy's Guard Ability to grant 2 shields is pretty useful). Buying items can save your run, but they cost a lot of gold which (in the long run) is better spent on permanent upgrades. You have to take things slowly and carefully, use Guard right before an encounter to absorb any fire they get in, and try to disable anyone you can't finish off.

Edit: Beat all stages I own in the Antisquad Original on hardest difficulty and cleared all stages I own in Antisquad Tactics. All the missions I had in Tactics were tutorial-like, so you might as well play through those before playing the original game. It plays pretty much the same but everything is cheaper, characters have less upgrade tiers, and the stages are a lot easier (at least on normal difficulty). The two versions don't share anything (gold, items, etc.).

In Original, I found a small stage that gave decent gold that I could clear quickly and easily. I ground that level for gold for key upgrades until I could beat it on higher difficulty levels (it gave ~60k normal, ~130k highest difficulty). After that, levels were mostly a cakewalk. You unlock new weapons and armor to buy when you upgrade your character's stats enough to increase their rank. It can be very effective to increase damage through a better weapon and start with more armor from a better outfit.

Nice as it is to see an addition to the sparse squad-based TBS genre, this is not a good game, at least on PC.

It's a barebones mobile port, with a gameplay model clearly built around microtransactions. With those removed, all that is left is a heck of a lot of grinding with clunky mouse-based controls.

It is also littered with broken Engrish throughout.

The core gameplay is fairly decent, but it is overshadowed by numerous irritations.

I want to like this and I would really like to be able to recommend it, but this game takes all the promise of the setting and the really intriguing look and instantly covers it below a painfully bad user experience.

Just suffering through the tutorial felt wrong on so many levels, one forced tap, uh, click at a time.

Don´t get me wrong, I think the opportunity to make turn based tactics game for both PC and tablets is a wonderful development for the whole community, but if it is done in such a lazy way, it actually hurts.
It hurts me as a PC player and it hurts other games with the same scope:
This is an example why there is still a lot of resentment against multi platform titles.

I can forgive the bad animations and translation, but the usability sins this game unleashes at steam players is beyond my comprehension.

I am writing this not to damage the success of the game, but in the hopes for an overhaul.
The basics of the game could work very well on steam, so consider putting some effort into redoing some parts for good old mouse & keyboard and high resolution screens.

Not a bad little TBS game for the price. The coin grinding gets old doing the same missions over and over adnauseum but the game is very simple to learn. This game plays more like the Elven legacy series style of Turn Based combat more-so than XCOM Enemy Unknown though. The skirmish DLC soon to come will certainly improve upon this title but to anyone looking for a no-brainer TBS who doesn't mind grinding for coins to upgrade your characters ... this game isn't bad for the price.

The graphics are nice.
And list of pros is complete.
The music gets tedious (it's pretty cool for the first few minutes but...), the mechanics are mediocre (No high grounds, no cover, just stand and shoot and run away), the AI is... well there's no AI really.
And after a few levels, I'm already bored.
I could keep going on about the dialogs that have to be read at the beginning of each level (Really, bubble dialogs! No voice overs!), or the really annoying 'Share' button (Seriously, that's just looks needy). But I think I've made my point.
And no, I'm not done. There's an achievement for losing a toon! How is that an achievement?
There. Done now.
A better AI, more advanced mechanics and a more interesting storyline would have kept me happy for a few more hours, maybe even made me tick the other box...

Slightly interesting game.

It is a good turn based game. You have a selection of small squad with different skills and stats.
Graphic is nice. The battle is simple but can be challenging, except if you're using the melee-hiding combo (the last time I played dunno if there's any update), it's invincible except at bosses.

The downside is: the game is (very) repetitive. You can change the difficulty to get a harder challenge, but the map is just too few. You still got the achivements to keep you playing for hours though.

Antisquad is a turn based tactical strategy game with interesting characters. Combat can be a lot of the fun and challenging, as well as boring and frustrating. Graphicly it looks decent, but it feels like a sloppy mobile port. Controls/gameplay consist of mouse clicks, so it feels very click heavy. This is one of those times when I wish there was a Meh button. I really can't recommend this game, it has too many flaws. 5/10
