This is a game that is causing a bit of contraversy,"ITS A FLASH GAME" and so it may be but another little game about a certain little boy who gets thrown down into the cellar is also-and it hasent stopped that being a really big seller and a really well received and loved game.
Anyway back to the review,i really like this game and i will tell you why A-its addictive and B-its actually very challenging.
The graphics are ok,the sounds ok and everything in the game is ok-but thats not what games are about (or they didnt used to be back in the day when graphics were blockey and sounds used to blib and blob) they are about fun and the challenge of learning a game inside out.
This game does not do what a lot of other games are guilty of "HAND HOLDING",you start as the american solider and get dropped in at the deep end and thats exactally what it is,doesnt tell you what to do just sets you of out after defending the base for the first night. You will eventually end up with 3 different characters and beleive me each has their own strenghs and weakneses (when you upgrade their weapons each one comes into their own in different ways) and trying to keep them all alive is one hell of a hard job as the game just gets harder and harder.
After a few nights you really do start to struggle to defend the base and yourselves if you havent made the right choices in what to upgrade either be it gear, guns, defensive wall ect.Of course all this costs scrap and you get this by wandering around outside the base in one of the other locations on offer, now some scrap lies there waiting to be picked up but some you get from shooting crates or by turning vehicles like tanks and jeeps into scrap (now you just push one button to do this and hold it in-but you must also defend yourself whilst you do this).Collecting the scrap you return to base before darkness falls (and beleive me thats where you are at you best defence wise-oh dear try a few nights outside the base and see what i mean).
Then like i have said the game shows its true light, you will play through a few times until you survive even 15 nights of the expected 30 to get out to the helicopter-and thats what its all about learning to play the game LITERRALLY.
You will sink or swim by the choices you make and thats good (sort of reminds me of a lot of good games where you learn from your mistakes and get better on every playthrough).
Eventully you will make it and then that will be it,and for me that is the worst thing about the game as i dont think i would play through it much after i have escaped and beaten the 30 DEADLY NIGHTS,and thats ok as i will certainly have some fun on my way to getting out ALIVE (with all three characters OH YEAH AS IF HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

Deadly 30 is a simple, but hard game. You control a survivor and your goal is to survive the night, while you go out and find materials to upgrade your hideout and find survivors. Movement is limited, because it's played from a 2D sidescroller perspective where you can go only left or right.

It starts off with easy to kill zombies, and after pretty much every night a new zombie is introduced. By night 10 you'll probably die because you have to manage your survivors as well as fighting off some of the tougher zombies. You have to make sure that they have enough ammo, health packs, or a better gun and do not let them fight off zombies by themselves, or they will probably get killed in the process.

The faces of the characters are absolutely hideous, but the rest of the game looks just fine. The resolution options are limited though so I had to play it in a window to make it look somewhat decent. The (limited) voice acting is decent and actually better than expected.

Deadly 30 is fun for at least a couple of hours, and the price is right. Grab it when you can.

Deadly 30 is a delightful throwback to the older side scrolling games, when gaming was simple and yet so freaking addictive. An interesting indie cocktail that blends elements of Left 4 Dead, Metal Slug and Tower Defense. With better partner AI, more stages and less technical issues this could be a sleeper hit. For a side scrolling game, there are some nifty environments, they are just aesthetic and other than the general looks, just seem to serve the purpose of changing the scenery.Deadly 30 is one of those games that frustrates me, but it's not necessarily the game's fault. I was questionable about how meshing three genres together would work, and the result isn't that bad of a game, as long as you know what you're doing from day to day. Deadly 30 is the perfect retro game to unwind with after a long day, when you just want to shoot crap and defend your base.

There are a lot of things to like in Deadly 30. Like the art-style, the stereotypical characters who are funny as hell and just the premise of the zombies and needing to defend your house/base at night. Trying to get as many scrap metal as you can to upgrade your weapons, turrets, fences etc is adicting.

However, a few big big problems keep me from enjoying this title and getting frustrated while i'm playing. First of all, there is the issue of Full-Screen and Resolution. Why can't this game just be full HD?

Second, there's the linear levels. When I saw screens, I thought this would be a Metal Slug kind of game, with zombies! But you never need to jump on a platform. It's just walking from left to right, right to left and that's it. The enemies also seem to be very strond and some excist just to annoy you. There are zombiedogs and zombiebirds that are almost impossible to hit before they hit you.

And the biggest issue is the controls are getting clammed up and start to lag whenever there is a lot of action on screen. Your character keeps walking, even when you do not press a button, it aims in all directions except the one you want and you die a lot because of this.

This results in a unplayable, frustrating experience. It's like you get a chocolate suprise egg. You love the chocolate that's around it, but when you get down to the core, you get a worthless toy that doesn't work.
