I just finished Hero of the Kingdom (2.5 hours, give or take). It's a very unique game. Basically you're presented a top-down isometric screen that looks a little bit like Age of Empires 2 or HoMM3 or something. You click through text prompts on the screen in a sort of combination text adventure and hidden object game. You become a hero of your kingdom by moving through screens and helping people out. Maybe someone lost their son, so you hidden object find him. Nothing is difficult, it'll just be like you see a patch of mushrooms, and you click it so you get mushrooms added to your inventory. Or you are on your boat and click a barrel underwater to salvage it. So not really hidden object, more like click-to-acquire. Maybe a farmer needs someone to go to town to sell his flour, so you get flour, click to switch screens to the town, and sell the flour to a merchant. Your inventory has dozens of different types of commodities that you manage, flowers, eggs, swords, handymen, antlers, pearls, etc. Across the world various merchants buy and sell various commodities. There's no actual difficulty in that it seems like it's impossible to make a bad transaction. If you just keep buying and selling stuff and foraging and fishing and hunting you'll eventually get enough of what you need or enough money to buy what you need. I really can't compare it to any other game I've ever played. I had a fun time playing through it. I guess I wasn't really playing. Just kind of clicking everywhere.

I also laughed every time I'd go into some big climactic battle and my guy would be like "We scored a crushing victory over the Dark Goblins. Oh and all of my soldiers died. We will miss them." and then -10 soldiers in my inventory. Hahaha. Made them feel very disposable.

One flaw: The game autosaves and when you beat the game it erases your saves, meaning that if you want to get all the achievements you should do so BEFORE fighting the last boss (the last boss is clearly marked and identified).

This is a game that feels like a mix between a hidden object game and a facebook-style RPG (follow very linear instructions, point and click on things to progress, rinse and repeat till you are done). Its a very casual game and moves at a fairly quick pace but would have preferred it to have been much quicker. Its a fairly mind-numbing game and while that can be ideal for some gaming sessions its a game that is very hard to recommend in most cases.

Other then the normal progression achievements most achievements are tied to finding all of the games resources (which is the games "hidden objects"). Most will be gotten easily but getting the eggs, mushrooms and lost crates can be quite an eye-torture to find due to how well they blend into the world.

Time to 100%: 3½-5 hours

Hero Of The Kingdom is a casual game that's actually very relaxing while also being very fun. It uses an isometric 2D view with a bit of animation in there as well. The story isn't all that fancy, or important, but it fits the casual nature of the game.

It's kinda hard to explain the gameplay because it involves a lot of clicking. You'll be accepting quests where you have to find certain items scattered across the map, defeat enemies, build things, sell things, buy things, you name it. There's plenty to do here, but remember, it's all about clicking stuff, so you will only use your mouse. Besides the isometric 2D view there's not much to look at. There are only textboxes and trade windows here.

But this game is just so damn fun and addictive. It's no good for you if you suffer from OCD, because you will want to complete most of the stuff this game throws at you, it's *that* fun (but casual). Very enjoyable !

Hero Of The Kingdom II is already in development and if it's nearly as good as this one I personally can't wait for it to come out.

For such a casual, simple, and easy game that's seemingly tailored towards young adults with regards to the writing, this pixel-hunt adventure with the visual trappings of an RPG is oddly addictive. The game takes place in a medieval fantasy kingdom, with a prerendered set of locations that you interact with using the mouse (your player avatar is never actually represented on-screen). You can perform actions such as fighting, collecting crafting materials, trading with merchants, and hunting for hidden loot. The ultimate goal being to get powerful enough to fight an evil lord endboss. Chris Avellone levels of storytelling, it is not. But there's something about the game's simplicity and steady stream of medal unlocks that's strangely appealing. Worth giving a try, especially if you bought it as part of a certain indie bundle...

This is a simple point and click adventure that might have been geared for younger gamers. I finished the game in around 5 hours and might have tried to go for completion if not for one HUGE problem. After you finish the game it starts you over from the beginning of the story. So you have to go through all the gathering of resources and story items all over again. It has only one save slot which autosaves your progress. This is just UNFORGIVABLE in this day and age. At least let the player start at the last autosave before fulfilling the ending condition.

This game was suprisingly a ton of fun. It's for a casual, laid back crowd.

-Beautiful graphics
-Most quests were self expanatory
-Fighting style was fun, without being "overdone"
-Achievements really wern't hard to get
-When replayed, maps were the same, but differences to what was found

-Way too short for my taste, was hoping to dump more hours into it
-Some of the items you need "now" for a quest aren't found until way later, had me stumped quite a few times
-Achievements a bit too easy
-No replayablity really.

I would recommend this game to anyone whose laid back, wants a casual game that doesn't require a lot to do. Story line is easy to follow, good for kids. I recommend the Big Fish Gaming trial to check it out, if you're on the fence and not sure.
