關於此影片

Free to Play is a feature-length documentary that follows three professional gamers from around the world as they compete for a million dollar prize in the first Dota 2 International Tournament. In recent years, e-sports has surged in popularity to become one of the most widely-practiced forms of competitive sport today. A million dollar tournament changed the landscape of the gaming world and for those elite players at the top of their craft, nothing would ever be the same again. Produced by Valve, the film documents the challenges and sacrifices required of players to compete at the highest level.

When you add Free To Play to your library, you will receive both the original downloadable version along with the streaming version.

I don't even play DOTA and I found this interesting. It's always nice to see the stories of the people behind those keyboards. I love it that gaming is slowly becoming more accepted and that some gamers can make a career out of playing what they enjoy.

If you want to achieve something, you will try to get it one way or another.

It's been a few years since this movie was made, but it's still good to watch. eSports back in the day is non-existent. Heck, eSports at that time might be even just for bragging rights and such. Also, video games as a career is shunned by many, as a job even. Because people generally had taught that games are just games. Simple as that. Games are just for recreation, not as a means of garnering profit.

But, how times have changed! eSports then started to come into the fray of profit. First, it likely had hundreds of dollars as prize money. Then, it became hundreds; then thousands; then hundred thousands! Now, with the big games out there: League of Legends, CS:GO, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Battleborn, and now DOTA 2, the prize money goes beyond what people had normally expected on video games.

At the present, it has now attracted so many aspiring to enter the eSports Scene, hoping to gain some easy profit. But life is not as easy as pushing the power button of a CPU; it requires you to pour dedication and focus into what you are doing. Hell, even making many sacrifices just to achieve what you want to achieve. This Free to Play documentary movie made by Valve shows what sacrifices are made and how those who have been successful (and not so successful) managed to be on the top. The eSports Scene is a high risk-high reward opportunity. Many have tried to gamble but failed, and those who managed to accomplish that hurdle came rolling down instantly. Another hardship of eSports is that you have to be relevant to stay in the Big League; for example, people are who considered beasts or legends in DotA (or Dota 1) tried to transition into DOTA 2, but failed miserably. That's one of the many examples of people who got on the top, and fell from grace. All-in-all, eSports is a cutthroat battle, where everyone is constantly against each other's throats.

A good point resides in the movie that eSports, while not really considered a sport, is not to be taken lightly. It does give large money. In fact, most eSports' prize pools have overtaken some of the prize pools or real sports! Still, the prize pool of eSports favor those who come on top only, and that's the sole reason why people are still hesitant to delve deeper into it. However, eSports grows exponentially year by year. I hope to see more in how eSports grows.

Even if you don't have the general knowledge of DotA, or DOTA 2, Free to Play is still nice to watch. It gives you a simple explanation of what is DOTA 2 and how professional gamers play the game. But that's not the main point of Free to Play, rather, it revolves around three prominent players in that time, and what are their tribulations and efforts done along the way to glory.

PROS:
- You can watch it in Valve Video Streaming for free, or download it to watch the deleted and extra scenes, commentary, and Q&A of the players in the documentary movie, which also nets you free achievements.
- Solid transition of camera angles. It captures the faces and emotions of the person talking. Kudos to Valve!
- Excellent music! Keep in mind that most of the music are in the DOTA 2 game already.
- Good summarization of what is DOTA 2, and how players generally play it.
- And most of all, it explains how eSports generally started as a newborn and how it grew into what it is now.

CONS:
- Though clear and can be heard, I wish people who are native-English speakers (ie Fear talking) should also have subtitles. Non-fluent English speakers have subtitles when speaking so you can understand them. I just wished the same goes for native speakers as well. People might not understand their accent and all. That's my two cents.
- This might be my only problem, but sometimes Steam crashes and leaves the Free to Play movie open. When I tried to upload the screenshots I made during that, it leads to an error and I have to exit Free to Play before I can upload screenshots again.

Overall, it's a great movie. I definitely recommend people to watch this free movie, along with other free and good movies in Steam.

So, hop in. It's Free to Play, after all!

A very interesting movie. I have never played Dota 2, I have never watched Dota 2, and have no interest in doing so in the future, and I still found the movie to be entertaining and interesting. If you have an hour to spare, give it a watch.

Also for all you scum who don't care about the time and effort put into making the movie and only want the acheivements, you can get them by scrolling to the end of the movie/deleted scenes without having to watch the entire movie. especially usefull since to get them all which requires you to "finish" the movie 3 times.
