I'm a huge fan of tactical turn-based games and have played almost all of them. To date the high water mark for me has been Jagged Alliance 2 (+v1.13 mod) with the XCOM reboot and Frozen Synapse filling the other spots on my podium.

XCOM2 has been at the top of my "eagerly-awaiting" list for some time and I figured I'd bridge the wait with Invisible Inc. Turns out (pun intended) I hugely underestimated this game. It is brilliant! Not only is it better than Enemy Unknown/Within but even my prized JA2 may need to step aside.

The stealth gameplay works wonderfully. As combat and time quickly escalate efforts against you, the need to be efficient in your infiltration is always at the forefront. This prevents idling/turtling as every turn matters. You need to know how far to push and when to cut and run. The pacing is excellent.

There are no probabilities to hit or variable damage. Even the path that enemies will move on their turn can be known. You might think this predictability would reduce the fun - it doesn't - it enhances it. All the information is there but you have to know how to get it. This makes you supremely responsible for the outcome of your decisions and it is eminently satisfying.

This is not a story dependant game. It's about the process, not the ending so repeated playthoughs do not feel repetitive. As the maps are procedurally generated there is no repetition here either. Even character builds are kept fresh between playthoughs as you only pick your initial two team members. Additional members (and their unique abilties), as well as available gear, are random. Rather than min/max a single favourite build, each playthough requires a solution using different tools.

There is more to praise about this game but the above are what I consider the key points that set it apart and elevate it to the top of the genre.

This is Game-Of-The-Year worthy. If you like this style of game, I cannot recommend it enough!

This opinion was made without the dlc played.

A good game with an expectionnaly good and unique gameplay.
  • Introduction :
The gameplay is rather original and the only game I could make a comparison is Xcom (I'm not saying there are no other games like this, I just don't know any with my own knowledge c;), as it's both a turn-based game and a game where you can loose your agents and possibliy missions. Expect this game is quite unique as it's a stealth game where you don't want to kill people.

  • The gameplay :
In this game you have to tackle on various corporations with more or less the same goal everytime : go in, keep a low profil, hack something or steal something, then get out, if possible with everyone alive. It's very fun and rewarding to hack and use our brain to avoid the agents and other devices in our way. The gameplay is so solid and you really feel incontrol of your team : if you win, it's thanks to you. If you screw, it's also because of you!
Between each mission you have a world map where you can select your next target, with informations about the kind of mission and rewards, as well as the time spent to get there. Once 72hours is gone, you have to go on the final mission (that is btw probably the less interesting mission, kinda like xcom once again). Every missions you did before that served to prepare your agents, as well as your equipment for the final showdown.

Between missions you also have to choose, sell/buy your collected loot to keep what is the most useful for your crew, as well as uppgrading your agents and AI skills if you want. There is a lot of choices in aptitudes and items, so others playthrough are encouraged. Besides finishing one playthrough gives you xp and unlocks more agents, items.

The design of the game as well as the world portayed is REALLY stylish and unique. The main characters voices are really good and the graphics are also top quality.

  • The bad :
On the bad points, I have to say that the story is not that interesting even though it seemed promising at first. The game tries to hint about a big conspiracy, with lot of corporations involves as well as government, but it ultimately fails to explain anything and the end is rather abrupt and feels very cheap. Worse, the ending feels like it was cut before a real ending was going to happen, like we are going to expect something more. I know this game expects the player to play multiple playthrough because of it's solid gameplay, but for me this was a big turn off.
The only other bad points about this game, is that it does not explain quite a few importants things. For instance I was hoarding implants for my future agents, until I discovered that I would unlock new agents only after finishing the game once. Very frustrating.
As a conclusion I have to say that this game was a really good surprise. It's very solid and fun, with a unique design and style. But don't expect to have a compeling story, but I think if you are already aware of this fact before starting to play, you will enjoy the game a lot more than me.

Backed this game since when it was sold for 2 for $17 and it is just keep getting better and better. Played it recently and was amazed how fluid the gameplay and mechanics now. This is a great Turn base strategy game that will keep you interested for maybe around 10 hours on campaign average (includes the time where you fail it and gain some XP).

You can't really bruteforce you way in compared before in early access since they made lethal weapon nerfed with the removal of unlimited ammo reload

Also there's now workshop support and a new DLC which I haven't checked yet.

This is a turn based strategy game. Expect X-COM like gameplay, but without the RNG elements, the one thing that makes X-COM a bit frustrating to me. It's still a great game but missing a 80-90% shot is always annoying. Unlike X-COM EU, Invisible Inc focuses more on stealth, you should always avoid direct firefights.

The art is beautiful, sound is great. Overall a very great game.
Get this if you like turn based games. Especially on sale, this game is really worth it.

Love the tactical & stealth elements. Perfect mix of the latest XCOM and Shadowrun games.
