As like every month we are continuously working on getting the game better and better. This led to several fixes already!

All updates for the PC are mentioned on the Verdun Steam changelog.
Some noteworthy fixes are:

  • Fixed WEX flamethrower
  • Improved switching to next level so it does not kick you when loading
  • No more stabbing/melee through objects
  • Improved the colliders (hitboxes) on the players
  • Added an anti cheat measurements
  • Increased maximum firing range
  • Fixed certain reserved slots never timing out
  • Fixed incorrect abilities when squad level lowers

About This Game

Verdun is the first multiplayer FPS set in a realistic World War One setting. The merciless trench warfare offers a unique battlefield experience, immersing you and your squad into intense battles of attack and defense.

The game takes place on the western front between 1914 and 1918, in one of the bloodiest conflicts in world history. The developers were inspired by the infamous Battle of Verdun in 1916. The game offers 4 distinct game-modes: Frontlines, Attrition, Rifle Deathmatch, and Squad Defense. There are also many historically accurate features such as realistic WW1 weaponry, authentic uniforms, horrendous gore, and maps based on the real battlefields of France and Belgium.

The Frontlines game mode is unique in its tactical complexity. The realistic trenches are challenging to fight in and require tactical cunning to capture and defend. The Entente and Central Powers strive to gain control of frontline sectors. In one battle you’ll find yourself rushing the enemy trenches during an offensive action in order to gain ground, while in another you might be defending your recently conquered ground against a fierce enemy counter-attack.
Players can choose to be part of one of the many squad types in the game, each of which have their own distinct tactical roles. By working together with your friends, you can earn experience that improves the power and versatility of your squad. As you gain more experience fighting and get promoted in rank, you also earn Career Points which you can use to unlock specializations, weapons and equipment.

In the Attrition game mode, the Entente and the Central Powers are pitted against each other in a single battle. Each side has a number of tickets which represents the amount of manpower they have. When a player is killed and respawns, a ticket is deducted from the side they belonged to. When a side has no more tickets, players of that side cannot respawn - the last side standing wins!

The Rifle Deathmatch is a free-for-all game mode, where all players are pitted against each other in a thrilling contest of skill using only bolt-action rifles.

In the Squad Defense mode, the player along with three squad-mates will have to defend a position as long as they can against endless waves of AI controlled attackers.

Verdun key features include:

The gameplay is as immersive and gritty as it can get with elements such as realistic gore that portrays the true horror of the 1st World War Battlefield. This feature can naturally be disable if preferred. The authentic weapons need to be handled with skill, as they each feel differently and there are no floating crosshairs to aid your aim. Also, the realistic bullet physics require you to lead your shots when firing on a moving target at long range. In the event of a gas attack, you need to put on your gas mask, which impairs your view and gives you a very claustrophobic experience. And if getting shot or gassed isn’t enough, sudden artillery barrages that are called in by NCO’s can pin you down if you’re caught in the open and might obliterate your entire squad. This unforgiving war isn’t for the faint hearted!

Team play is what lies at the heart of Verdun. When you start a game, your first choice is to fight for either the Entente or the Central Powers. You can form one of the different squad types available to that side with up to three of your friends. Each squad has a specific tactic that is based on the historical units of that time. Depending on your squad’s type, players can choose a specific role within the squad, complete with historically accurate attire, weapons and special abilities. The more Co-op experience you and your squad mates earn together, the more powerful your squad will become and the better abilities will be unlocked. This progression is also shown visually as you and your squad get more advanced uniforms. You will also earn Career Points, which can be spent to unlock specializations, weapons and equipment.

The true WW1 battlefield experience has been captured in a real-time dynamic frontline, set in historically accurate locations of the Western Front. These frontline maps are comprised out of multiple sectors that can be captured by either side. Staying true to the typical attrition warfare of that time, both sides attack and counter-attack each other in turn, compelling you to defend each captured sector of trenches!

The development team has done extensive field research at Verdun and has been advised by knowledgeable historians to make sure Verdun is as historically accurate as it can get. Uniforms have been recreated to the tiniest details, the weapons are modeled to exact references and the maps use realistic World War 1 props and terrain layouts. Also, everything in the game has been tailored to recreate the grim atmosphere that is so typical of WW1; Gloomy clouded skies, an immersive interface combined with realistic sounds, accurate native voices that evoke the feeling of actually being there in the trenches, mud covered - trenches whilst peering over your rifle to spot the enemy.

I started playing Verdun over three years ago back in it's infancy in the browser version. I picked the game up in December of 2013 on steam. A few months after it's initial release on steam. I was instantly hooked. The gunplay, maps, and everything was an enjoyable and amazing experience. It was a beta and as expected it had bugs and issues.

Fast forward to April 28th 2015. The game was released out of it's early access and was no longer in any form of beta. Surely if the game was being released from beta it would mean the bugs had been fixed? The game had been polished? Unfortunately no. It's not really understood why the devs decided to release the game out of early access so fast. A quick playthrough would have shown that it wasn't ready upon release and was still a game that played like it was in early access. It still does to this day. Although this isn't where my actual sentiment with Verdun comes from. While the game still had issues at release it was indeed as bug free as it had ever been. I still commend the devs for what was probably the smoothest major update ever in the games history. Basically no new issues to be heard of and we got a fantastic new map Aisne. Release was an optimistic time as the game was in the most polished state it had ever been, while still buggy and playing like a beta, it was still playing better than ever before. Many new players came to check out the game, as did returning players from the early access, and things looked to be on the up and up.

The real issues begin at the end of August in 2015. This first major update after Verdun’s release in April. This update was known as the attrition update. It introduced a new gamemode which known as ‘’attrition’’ hence why it was the ‘’attrition’’ update, but furthermore it also introduced clutter to the maps. Clutter consisted of random trash and crap scattered all over the map. Things like bullets, gear from soldiers, and dead bodies. Admittedly it does make the maps feel more lively and more authentic, but this update was the beginning of trouble with Verdun. It was very clear in the test branch for this update that the clutter added mainly to Flanders and Artois was absolutely destroying the FPS performance. Despite very clear warnings to the devs the update was released. As a result the performance of 2 of the 6 maps in the game at the time had been majorly compromised. Logically you would have expected the devs to rollback the update with no immediate fix to the performance problems in sight. Unfortunately they chose to keep this update in the game and as a result performance of the maps was ruined. People with medium to high end PC’s struggled to run the maps above 60FPS even on lower end settings. This nightmare continued on for four entire months. During this four month period the devs actually made performance worse on other maps, and continued to break the game further. Despite what this added clutter had done to Artois and Flanders the devs still felt it was a good idea to continue on adding it to other maps.

After this four month struggle had ended the player base had seen significant drops and losses, the competitive scene was all but dead after it had been cancelled due to the performance problems, and the game had been through hell. Despite this it was still alive and I was still playing. It was in December of 2015 when performance was fixed finally and I thought we had been through the worst. Going back to a few months before this in September the devs started a campaign known as weapon wednesday. Every week they would tease images/gifs of new weapons and features coming in the future. This would last well beyond December and into March of 2016. This was a rather questionable decision as it really annoyed more people than it hyped as it lasted too long and people became frustrated and impatient. In November they released a new map Fort Douaumont. The map had basically no testing or feedback and it was released in the middle of the games performance issues. To this day the map has never been reworked and is incredibly unbalanced and an unenjoyable experience.

After the performance had been smoothed out the game was gearing up for the biggest content drop it had ever seen. The beta for Horrors of war came out in January of 2016. You would have thought that I would have been excited for this, but I wasn’t. Back when they released the game in April of 2015 they had planned for individual DLC releases. All of them had their own name and were all nicely packaged. I believed that this would keep the game content supplied for years to come and as was advertised with their roadmap they would be split up and released at different times. So what did they do? They decided to release almost the entirety of the content in one go. Rather than split it up so there would be several major content drops over time everything was being pushed out at once. This made it impossible to beta test everything and give this update any chance of coming out smoothly. Furthermore they decided to change core game mechanics for no apparent reason. This would go on to drive veterans away from the game as Verdun was no longer they game they were used to playing. Despite very clear warnings from players that the beta for Horrors of war was still buggy and not ready for release it went through anyway. As a result on the 23rd of March 2016 we got a very buggy and broken update known as Horrors of war.

The fact is that the devs were continuing on this path of bad decisions and shortcomings. It wouldn’t take long for the next bad decision and questionable move to come out. In early June they announced the console port. Why would they do this? Hard to say when the PC version was more buggy than it had been in a year, there was still PC content that needed to be released, and the game was nowhere near stable enough to be ported over to consoles. Over of the course of this summer essentially nothing happened. The PC community was left out to hang and dry while the devs focused all their efforts onto the console port of the game. Days before the consoles were set to release they actually postponed the Xbox release. Their rushed console port which was supposed to cash in on BF1 was amusingly being delayed because it straight up wasn’t ready. The PS4 was released on time and initial feedback from players was relatively unpositive. Despite less graphical fidelity the game was locked to 30 FPS and was very buggy. The PC owners were being left out for a buggy and broken console port only being made to cash in on the new interest in WW1 following BF1 being announced. Recently it was discovered that the devs had intentionally added a distance where bullets would be deleted from the map. This was added to help solve performance issues. The distance was 150m and 150m is a relatively common engagement distance on several of Verdun’s maps. As a result players could not take long range engagements simply because the game no longer allowed them to. As opposed to removing pointless clutter, our ability to engage long distance was removed. While Verdun has hit detection that is abysmal, the game is being ported to consoles, Verdun has netcode that makes the early BF4 netcode look decent, but we get gamemodes people never asked for and clutter which ruins the FPS. We might have gotten lots of content with Horrors of war but ultimately when it comes out buggy and is released all at once as opposed to splitting it up to allow sufficient testing and to keep players coming back for more frequent major content drops we get it all at once. It’s been a year since the game first came out on steam and it’s still a buggy game which feels like it’s still in beta. The devs do not seem to want to ever address and fix some of the biggest issues plaguing the game and I myself cannot run out of bad things to say about Verdun at this point.

Where do I begin, there's so much to say about this game. I may as well state that I am one of the veteran players of this game, been playing this game in the early beta stages and have seen a lot of progress. A lot of progress indeed. A lot of players like me would probably look back when the uniforms were low res and any explosives did zero damage and say "ahh those were the good days". I've had this game for two years and I plan to keep it.

This game as I said, has been through so many changes. New beligerants to the war and new regiments. Chemical warfare and an accurate suppression system that throws off your aim. Also, time accurate weaponry, along with the amount of usage of these guns. It's not Battlefield 1 where everyone is running around with a machine gun. There's few machine guns but mostly bolt action rifles, just like the real war. Plus the tactics used to play the game and win are just as accurate. Certain regiments play certain roles such as reconnisance or offensive regiments or defensive. Fire support and support in general is just as accurate. No "killstreak" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t, they can only be called in by your regiments NCO who leads your squad, and it's all timer based so use wisely. You also don't get many MLG dumbasses in the game, so that's also a perk. I mean, I am not saying there isn't any period, there are some but not as many like in COD. The community for the most part is mature, you are going to come across some rude or obnoxious people which is expected. In all of my two years I have only seen one person exploit hacks into the game and they have been permanently banned from the game I believe. Plus that was way back in beta days. So hackers are not an issue at all. The game CAN get laggy. Just adjust the graphics settings to where it runs the smoothest and you should be alright. This is also a game that is best played with friends too, so either make friends or play with friends who currently own the game. Playing with friends builds team xp and can provide your squad with better perks and support.

As someone that has played countless hours of this game, I do feel like I know what I'm talking about. There is surely a lot of potential in Verdun yet the developers somehow manage to bury that with their own choices. Starting from a bunch of recently added clutter to maps which then couldn't be optimised (and still isn't), to the addition of a field-of-view and movement update that discouraged aggressive objective gameplay all the way to ridiculous features like a maximum bullet travel distance, Verdun just has too many setbacks to make me recommend this in the current state that it's in. The optimisation is still completely hit-and-miss, and system requirements are just excessive given the final product. Don't even get me started on the hit detection which never seems to improve and numerous bugs, many game breaking. The anti-cheat system was also troubled recently with an influx of hackers, although it seems it is unable to ban anything besides just testing if you have CheatEngine running or not. Don't get me wrong, there are still great parts to the game and the setting is something I absolutely love. If you ignore the negative aspects it is pretty damn amazing. Sure, give the game a go if you want to try, the refund button is always nearby if you find the same issues that I have. I really can't give a positive review with the current state of the game, maybe one day. #bringbackoldverdun

Honest review: This game has been around way before Battlefield came up with the WWI idea. In my honest opinion it executes everything better overall. Realism is this games forte, nothing arcade like in the ways of BF or CoD. There are no F1 accelerating tanks or no-trench maps. This is actual WWI, as it was intended to be. You play as a forgotten soldier in the muddy and rainy trenches of France. A bullet can kill you, or fatally wound you. Gas attacks or barbed wire can be very troublesome either. There are also several modes to play and the biggest thing they have is the trench warfare style move forwards and backwards maps. It is true that the game requires a good rig to run smooth but if you have it and if you like realistic shooters on WWI, then I say it is a must get. You get the most bang for your buck. Have fun and see you in the ghastly trenches of war !

War never changes.

I've lost count on how many times I died. I died from clubs, shovels, knives to a bayonet. With grenades, pistols, rifles or machine guns. Being gassed, smoked out or mortar shelled. Hell, even cooked by a flamethrower.

Yet somehow I always come back alive. Surrounded by my squadmates, we wait for the enemy to come. We can hear the whistles, the battlecries the sound of boots running through mud, over half buried who knows what it was. It's coming closer. For a second everything is silent. And then all hell breaks loose.

The machine guns start firing, officers shouting something and the sound of your squadmate reloading his rifle.

You seem something moving in the corner of your eye, you turn and see your squadmate falling on the floor. His rifle laying empty beside him.
You feel yourself fill with rage as you charge the enemy who killed him with your bayonet, killing him instantly. And silence once again.

The fear creeps back into your heart as you know what's coming next.
And then you hear it. Officers shouting the order, loud and clear:

Over the top boys! Charge!

You get up, start running from cover to crater to cover. You're almost there and then it starts.

That dreadfull sound of machine guns firing.

This game isn't for single minded CS:GO or CoD or Battlefield players that think moving on their own and destroying everything is what Verdun is about (well, if you get good, maybe it can be that way).

The sort of person that reviews this game negatively, is the sort that runs in front of a machinegun or flamethrower while expecting to 'get their health back'. Knives and bayonets are flanking weapons, unless you know what you're doing.

The sort of person that reviews this game negatively, joins the noobs in forming small groups of 6+ players around the more experienced gamers. Then, they get surprised when one heavy mortar kills EVERYONE. You could imagine the social backlash.

The sort of person that reviews this game negatively, is the type that stands in the middle of a narrow trench when half the team needs to get by, trying to plug the defensive gap in the line.

This little game here is bolt action, stratergy, and gore heavy. Its historically accurate (don't bring up ♥♥♥♥ like the BAR, apparently it doesn't fires the 22LR rather than the 30-06). Don't expect it to run like Call of Duty. It doesn't. Call of Duty gave up being realistic a long time ago.

Hit detection is utterly broken for some of the weapons, the game boots you out of the match everytime the match ends, you'll spawn in the sights of an enemy quite often, very few people playing the game, buggy and I find it impossible to find a match where the enemies and allies aren't teleporting everywhere half the time.

No idea what the ♥♥♥♥ the developers did, but they managed to break a game that worked great just a few months ago.

enjoy this chicken stir fry recpie

- Serves 4
- 10 mins to prepare and 10 mins to cook
- 325 calories / serving
- Healthy


- 1 orange, zested and juiced
- 2tbsp soy sauce
- 2tbsp sesame oil
- 250g (8oz) tender stem broccoli
- 5cm (2in) piece root ginger
- 1tbsp sunflower oil
- 1 garlic clove, finely sliced
- 1 red pepper, deseeded and thinly sliced
- 150g Straight To Wok Noodles
- 400g (13oz) chicken fillet, cut into thin slices


Step 1 - Mix together the orange zest and juice, soy sauce and sesame oil and set aside.

Step 2 - Blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 2 minutes, then drain well and set aside.

Step 3 - Finely shred the ginger. Then heat a large frying pan or wok, add the sunflower oil, heat it until sizzling, and fry the ginger till it's crisp.

Step 4 - When it's done, remove with a slotted spoon. Add the chicken and garlic, and stir-fry until just browned. Remove the meat using a slotted spoon and set aside.

Step 5 - Add the red pepper and broccoli and stir-fry for around 2-3 minutes until it's just tender. Add the soy sauce mixture, bring it to the boil then return the chicken to the pan

Burden is a very fun game. It really instills the fear of WWI and fighting in the trenches. It also encourages teamwork in three of the game modes (CO-OP survival, Team Deathmatch, and Trenchlines). I love this game and I will continue to recommend it to others. I'm also excited to see if Vurdun makes an appearance on the PS4 and Xbox One.

These two men got drunk and they wandered away and got caught. They laughed it off. They thought it was just something or nothing; but they were court-martialled and they were sentenced to be shot, subject to Sir Douglas Haig. He could have said no, but he didn't. So they were shot. They were described as being out of the area.
