Reviews

“It's not the fact that The Stanley Parable makes you think about the nature of choice in games that makes it extraordinary. It's the fact that it does so while simultaneously managing to be a wildly entertaining, hilarious, and surprising experience.”
9/10 - Gamespot

“It's this bouncing between serious tone and irreverence that makes The Stanley Parable so special. You never know what to expect."
10/10 - Joystiq

“Where so many games that aspire to be more than games end up less than any form of art, Stanley Parable strives, and then succeeds.”
10/10 - Destructoid

“Astoundingly labyrinthine onion-like layers of narrative tangents the player can embark on in what feels like the unholy interactive offspring of Inception, Being John Malkovich and Portal.”

About This Game

The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, zippity zop begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

Based on the award-winning 2011 Source mod of the same name, The Stanley Parable returns with new content, new ideas, a fresh coat of visual paint, and the stunning voicework of Kevan Brighting. For a more complete and in-depth understanding of what The Stanley Parable is, please try out the free demo.

It's worth a few dollars, you'll get a laugh out of it, but the $15 regular price on here is ridiculously overpriced for the time you'll spend in game.

This game is like the Emperor has no clothes. Very few are willing to say that this game is not very good. I would not recommend it to anybody else, especially not for it's full asking price. After playing it through a few times, I believe that the game just simply isn't worth the money, If you see the game greatly discounted, perhaps, then I would try it. Its really on par with mobile phone game.

This game is fun...
But I do Have to say its short.
The cool thing about this game though is you can choose different ways you would like to play.
There is always something to discover in this game.

A very nice game with a lot of humour and good spirit. It has choices and many different endings - funny and bad.Even the achievements are funny (I laughed with what you've got to do to get the 430 achievement). The game is short, but there are a lot of secrets that keep you occupied.
It worths to try for the baby ending to have the chance to be in other games :D Also, for the good ending it is best to do what are you supposed to and blindly follow the narrator's orders. He isn't that bad after all.

One of the few games to truly make me laugh out loud; the way the Narrator responds to your actions (or lack thereof) is just genius!
Whilst the game may be short, it is eminently replayable to discover all the different routes and endings.
Thoroughly recommended!

Very unique and highly replayable (Until you do everything, then it's not so good).
This is one of the few games I 100%ed. If you look at the achievements you might understand why I was compelled to.

It is pretty simple:

1. play the game
2. play it again
3. and again
4. asking yourself: what the heck?
5. put the adventure line theme on your mobile device as ring tone

Walk through the same office 50 times and get your mind blown each time.

Mind♥♥♥♥ery and whitty comments throughout a very inventive narrative. You really have to play it all in one session, but it only takes 2-3 hours to "complete".

a friend gameshared this with me. He didn't tell me what it was about, he just said "You'll love it." I booted the game up, and was surprised to find that:

1. It wasn't a troll game

2. I actually enjoyed this game

I sat through a couple hours of it, and found this game entertaining. I legit couldn't put the controller down. 10/10 would play a sequal if they ever make one.

what did I just play?
was I playing at all?
am I Stanley or is Stanley me?
why a parable?
why pushing buttons?
the meaning of choices?
this is not a game this is madness and I really adore madness so this was awesome.
want action? skip this one
want a deep romantic story? skip this
truly not a conventional game, truly not really a game and yet more of a game than many games
it goes up and then down or down and then up, it is more like a parabola than a parable....

One word to describe this game: BRILLIANT.
The 4th wall is constantly destroyed, actually there's not even a 4th wall anymore, and you catch yourself wondering who you are at the end of it.
And the narration is amazingly performed, seriously. This is such a unique game that gives a unique experience, I definitely recommend playing it!!!

The Stanley Parable is a unique "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style walking simulator, with a heavy focus on humor relating to the role of narration and the player/viewer/reader in an interactive story.

Overall I would say the game is a very enjoyable, albeit somewhat short, experience. I'd be hard-pressed to find a joke or gag that fell flat.

If you like snarky narrators and adequate planning for players deviating from the main path, give this one a go. The game's limited in its replayability, and by now, there are enough LPs to have seen everything. If possible, go in blind, but it's otherwise a fun game to try out. It being a sale at the time of writing, you should pick this up regardless.

Note: if, like me, you played the original mod back in the day, you'll get an even bigger kick from the game, but I would not recommend you going back to play that now. Find a video for a little extra as you explore.

I didn't know anything about this game when I first loaded it up and started playing. My son had watched videos of it on Youtube and told me it was a game I had to play...and to avoid spoilers. So I bought it and took a chance.

I managed to kill myself in less than a minute...and I didn't stop laughing for at least half an hour. The voice acting is fantastic and so is the crazy, winding, bizarre story.

I absolutely love this game.

The Stanley Parable is an experimental narrative-driven first person game. It is an exploration of choice, freedom, storytelling and reality, all examined through the lens of what it means to play a video game.

- You will make a choice that does not matter

- You will follow a story that has no end

- You will play a game you cannot win

...it's actually best if you don't know anything about it before you play it...

The HD Remix of The Stanley Parable is a remodeled, remastered version of this unique title.

I think this is not even a game, but in life someone told us to give us advice, and someone wants to scourge us, he brings a very deep meaning. 10/10

Play the game. Hear some voices in your head... Disregard said voice... Repeat.

Amazing game with so much replayability, everything in this office will peak your curiosity and you'll want to find every little hidden secret.

10/10 worth it for full price, if it's on sale and you don't buy it, you're crazy!

This game is........... beautiful, amazing, hilarious, madness, confusion, mind-bending shockers, happiness, evil, control, fear, sadness, depression, etc. There's so many words I can say about this game but I would go on forever and ever.........
This story interaction/walking simulator game is graphically beautiful and runs smooth as butter for me (constant 59-60 fps). This game will make you decide what to do and what you choices you want to make. Also there is a narrator from above who seems to control on what path or decision you make (not that you have to follow the narator's orders ;p). So choose carefully but not carefully so you'll get either disasterious or hilarious happenings/dialogue from the narrator. I highly recommend this game! This game will change your life......... I GUARANTEE IT!!!!!!! Trust me on this one!!!!! :D

An experimental narrative masterpiece. Even not playing the game (for five years) is part of the game's narrative and so is playing the game for a whole Tuesday. A must have for all serious achievement hunters and all who enjoy artistic metacommentary of the responsibilities of raising children and puppies. Don't be heartless and let the baby burn!
