CRYENGINE 3.6.7 now available On Steam!

Hey all,

we've just released the CRYENGINE 3.6.7 update, hot off the heels of the 3.6.6 release at the beginning of the month. As you may have picked up from various posts on the forums, we want to start releasing updates more frequently and we're looking at a bi-weekly release cycle to get us there. We think it gives a good balance between update frequency (time waiting for bug fixes and features) and to make it worthwhile (how many fixes/features are required to make a new update "ready for release"?).


As you can see from the release notes, 3.6.7 is packing a fair amount of features and fixes. You can find them right here.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Further improvements to FBX support.
  • New Flownodes.
  • Editor UI improvements and features.
  • CryDesigner Cube Editor.
  • Tons of Wwise asset updates and fixes.
  • New Weapon attachment setups.
  • Various fixes and features requested by the Community

We've already begun initial testing for 3.6.8 which has a bunch of cool features and fixes coming too so keep an eye out for more info on those and we hope to ship that end of the month but bear with us while we trial out this pretty extreme release cycle as it's new to us as well :)

Steam Auto Updates

With that in mind, you may not have noticed that you can now opt-out of CRYENGINE automatic updates on Steam, which is a pretty popular request coming from some larger teams working with EaaS, concerned about auto-updates impeding on their work.

In order to opt-out of the auto-updates you simply need to join a different "beta" branch in which we're archiving previous releases, starting from 3.6.5. To do this, right click on "CRYENGINE" (not Sandbox) in your Steam library, click on Properties, click on "BETAS" tab and then you'll be presented with a drop-down box where you can opt-in to different engine revisions. In order to return to the "main" branch which receives auto-updates, simply chose the "NONE - Opt out of all beta programs" option.

We hope this helps make things more flexible and as always, we welcome the feedback!

Update from the Team #5: CRYENGINE 3.6.6. released

and welcome back to another installment of our Updates from the CRYENGINE team. This time around, we want to discuss what is new in today’s release of CRYENGINE 3.6.6 to all of our subscribers.

As always, you can find the full releases notes in our Documentation, but we want to call out a few key improvements (many of which are based directly on your feedback and reports)

FBX improvements and refinements

One of the most popular additions in 3.6.5 was the FBX Import Dialog, which represents our first step towards true FBX support further down the road. You have sent us a lot of feedback on this first implementation, some of which is reflected in today’s fixes and improvements. As previously said, this is the first part of a larger project that you will see evolve over time with future releases.

Audio fixes and improvements

On the Audio side of things, we have adjusted several visual aspects of the ACB, such as new icons, layouts as well as general functionality to make the ACB more powerful and more comfortable to use. Beyond this quality of life improvements, a new AudioAreaAmbience entity will also help to improve working with ambiance audio areas.

New Assets

As with previous builds, we have used the release of 3.6.6 to add some more work-in-progress assets to the engine (and as always, you are free to use them in your own projects). These include some new weapon scopes and character attachments, with more to come in the future.

Sometimes a little inspirational eye candy is all it takes to come up with something great yourself, and the “Asian Temple” by Censored_id certainly fits the bill. Finally, we want to give a shout-out to our friends at Xaviant, whose first-person action game “Lichdom: Battlemage” was been released on Steam this week. Longtime fans of CRYENGINE have been following this game throughout its development (including presentations at the CRYENGINE booth at GDC), so we are excited for them to get their finished game into gamers hands!

What is Wwise?
Wwise from Audiokinetic is the world-class audio engine and integration tool that we’ve chosen to include with CRYENGINE. Used in AAA games across console, desktop and mobile platforms, Wwise provides a complete audio integration pipeline that we’ve deeply integrated into CRYENGINE. You can learn more about Wwise here. Wwise ships with CRYENGINE in Evaluation mode, allowing for projects with under 200 sound files and for non-commercial use. You must upgrade to a commercial license to ship your game.

How do I upgrade my Wwise license?
There are two ways to upgrade your license of Wwise. If your project uses under 200 sound files, you can use the Wwise Free Limited Commercial License. You can start the process by creating an account at the Audiokinetic website, and then you can request your Limited Commercial License key by creating a project here. Be sure to fill out the form completely, as it will need to be approved.

The other method is for projects that go beyond the 200 sound file limit of the Limited Commercial License. For these, please contact Audiokinetic directly to request a full commercial trial or purchase a full commercial license. Licensing price details can be found here.

CryEngine отличный движок для серьезных игр. И не нужно торопится с критикой. Ведь с этим движком работать не просто но интересно. Сложность работы в ней и отпугивает многих начинающих разработчиков а не возможности заложанные в дыижок. Тем более цена не кусается. А учитывая тот факт, что многие компании давно мечтают получить на нее полные права, то это показатель качества CryEngine. А уж о графике и речи нет. Красота! Всем советую ее купить!

Lot of crashes, small of docs and also... CRYENGINE? No! It is CRYSDK and really not flexible. You even cant import assets directly by FBX or OBJ, you need to use plugin for Maya or Max. WHAT// You get SDK for 10$ and also need 12313123$ for Maya?! NO TNX. Okay actually import system is not so bad on this part, but in SDK I too ofted had a SDK CRASHES on import. And also many cool standart assets here, but wait you cant use it in your commercial game! LOL! You can only watching and saying how cool it looks! But if you will use it, EA(or Crytech, Im not sure) lawyers get thousands of thousands dollars from you. And still this standart things have some buggs... But if you will import you own assets it will have some buggs too............. Finally I must say Cry engine is really cool and beautiful engine, but using Cry SDK is just a torture.

The thing that will allow me to use it:
1) Good working SDK without so many buggs.
2) Good documentation and support.
3) Good amount of assets allowed to use in commercial projects.

If all this will be realized then I going to pay 20/30/40 dollars per month for it, but now.... yeah, maybe Cry SDK costs 10$ rightly, but it only shows that game engine for 10$ per month is a very sad thing.

CRYENGINE has been a strong platform in impressive titles for years. It contains some amazing visual technologies, and the post-processing effect defaults out of the box are great. It comes with things like the incredibly powerful RENDERDOC utility for profiling your draw calls and timings, which is always useful in game development. In general it is good engine for major projects and for workflows that involve multiple people/teams. Unfortunately that's not what their new Engine-as-a-Service paradigm is targeting with a Steam release and $10 single-seat subscription licensing.

I'm going to have to rate this down on Steam, due to a serious disconnect between what they're marketing and the experience you are likely to have with it. It is on Steam specifically to appeal to independent developers with its new subscription based structure that costs less than many MMOs. The editing tool (which is what you're exposed to right at the start) has a lot of presets, behaviors, and objects for first-person shooters, but not for much of anything else. Furthermore, CRYENGINE (without serious tweaks) makes some problematic assumptions about the games you'll want to make with it; the concept of health, gravity, characters, the way it handles player controls, etc. From a quick look around the features in the tools and the demos, you will quickly realize that the package is targeted for gamers who what to try making their own shooter. Again, there are tons of GREAT features in CRYENGINE and it is, at its core, a pretty good engine for the cost.

In closing, CRYENGINE is great for those who are steeped in the workflow and methodologies involved with developing in it. But those people will already know this and won't need to read these reviews. To those interested in just trying out a "triple-A" engine: be warned. There is a significant learning curve (like all engines), but the package you are given with CRYENGINE is prohibitively unintuitive, especially to the uninitiated. I have to vote this down for the simple fact that those reading this review would be better served with any of the other popular engines. The community and resources you have available to you for learning CRYENGINE as a newbie simply pale in comparison to some of the direct competitors, and I'm afraid that's a vitally important aspect when you're targeting this kind of audience.
