Playing this game is a learned skill mixed with a talent for efficent survival tactics. As such, you have to be the kind of person who doesn't get frustrated and walk away the first 16 times you die. The thing that kept me coming back though, was how each death felt entierly preventable- as in, if I had just done one thing differently, I could have OWNED that world. So you go back and your newfound knowledge empowers you! But then you die some other easily preventable way, and you start over again three times as determined, knowing exactly how to win this time! And each time you learn more and more, and get better and better, until you're wrestling Beefalo and farming birds with the best of them. :)

That said, I'm still nowhere near my full potential in this game, I must train more~

Haha I think I figured out why it's called Don't Starve now, hot dayum!

Moving on!

Something magical happened! I managed to stay alive for at least 3 days in a row on my second attempt. Which is pretty amazing as I can barely keep my self alive in the RW! :P

I'd say this game is pretty addicting once you start learning the tricks and the trade. One tip I'd provide is don't give up! Keep falling off that donkey, or in my case getting eaten alive by the Spiders. Every time! Definitely reccomend this bad boy to all you secret strategists out there, cause this definitely crys for your attention!

Finally, under no circumstances should you ever give up if you get frustrated! The aim to to keep a cool and clear head althought, otherwise you're in for a cheeki surprise.

It can sometimes get a little bit upsetting when you realise there's no 'save' progress or high score list, but I guess there's a beauty in that, you can show off to your friends just how good your are and let them see just how "natural" you are at surviving! ;)

Alright, I think I've poured my heart out enough. BUY THE GAME! :)

Shilp dawg out!

Don't Starve is an amazing game! I played it religiously on PS4, i got it on PC last year, and played it not as much. After recently purchasing DST, which is a amazing game by the way. I've been on a Don't Starve buzz so to speak. I have all DLC but i really need to play ShipWreaked more. It seemed abit empty, i have all characters unlocked, when i say i didn't play shipwreaked that much. I played it enough to unlock all characters. I like that they make you work for them in the DLC's, unlike the base game. Having to find the characters in cages or by other means.

Anyway, this is the best survival game you can buy at this moment in time. Get it with all DLC and you will have a great time!

Don't Starve is one of my favorite games of all time. You are thrown with no explanation in a hostile world and your goal is to survive as long as possible.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay of Don't Starve is really simple. Either you play it on the keyboard, or you can play it with a mouse. With a mouse, it's basically a point and click game. You interact and move by clicking on things. The movement speed is not too slow and not too fast, so it works well. There's not much to say about the gameplay, since it's really simple.

You have 3 stats: Hunger, Health and Sanity. Hunger and health are pretty self-explanatory. If your hunger hits 0, your health will drain pretty quickly and you'll die once your it hits 0. Sanity, however, is more original. Staying near monsters too much or staying in the dark will drain your sanity. the lower it goes, the crazier your character gets. At first, you'll start seeing shadows, then you'll hear voices, get even crazier and the bunnies transform into hideous monsters. Eventually, the shadows will attack you and try to kill you. If your sanity hits 0, it doesn't drain your health, it'll just be extremely creepy and shadows will try to kill you.

A day in Don't Starve lasts for 8 minutes, and is divided into 3 phases: Day, dusk, and night. At day, the world is active, animals come out, and spiders stay in their nests. At dusk, animals and insects disappear and hide home, while spiders come out of their nests. Once the night arrives, if you don't have a source of light, Charlie will kill you (Charlie is the darkness). You have to always have materials to craft a campfire or find a way to create a light source, or you'll die.

CONTENT

The vanilla game, without any DLCs, has two seasons: summer and winter. Summer is rather calm, while winter is harsh and cold (literally). You'll want to gather as much resources as possible before the winter comes.

I personally haven't played the vanilla game that much, so in this review I'm going to focus more on the two (current) DLCs: Reign of Giants (RoG) and Shipwrecked (SW).

Reign of Giants

Reign of Giants adds 2 new seasons, a lot of randomly generated structures, and 4 Giants that spawn randomly during the seasons. Autumn and Spring are pretty calm, while Winter and Summer are really harder to survive, especially when a giant spawns and tries to destroy your base. With enough experience, RoG becomes pretty easy. The giants, which are the biggest threat in my opinion, can actually be killed pretty easily if you know how to do it. This game rewards you for having a lot of knowledge about it. If you enter the game completely blind, chances are you won't survive for very long, but once you've played it a lot, you start to know how to deal with stuff much easier, and unless you are really unlucky, surviving becomes really easier. Once you reached a point where you think you have everything available, and not much can kill you, jump in the caves. The caves are really hostile and dark, but you can get some reeeaally good loot out of it, so if you don't die, it's really worth it. The DLC is really worth it's price, but it can seem too easy at times.

Shipwrecked

Shipwrecked throws you on a deserted island, in the middle of the ocean. You can craft boats and explore the sea and the different islands you can find. The island are all very small, and the majority of the map is covered in water. Shipwrecked is way harder than RoG in my opinion, especially because of the last season. There are also 4 seasons in Shipwrecked: Mild, Hurricane, Monsoon and Dry. They're all really different, and Mild is the only peaceful one. During Mild season, nothing special happens. On day 21, Hurricane season starts. Strong winds and thunderstorms will happen extremely frequently. If you dropped items on the ground, they'll get blown into the sea, and if you don't craft a chimney, your fire will die out incredibly quickly. If you forget to build a Lightning Rod, the thunderstorms will burn your whole base to the ground really quickly. The sea is also really dangerous, since large waves will form more and more as the season progresses. Large waves will hurt your boat and make you wet, which drains your sanity. Once Hurricane season ends, Monsoon season begins. While way calmer than the previous season, Monsoon season can be deadly if you don't know what's coming. Rain will be frequent, but not as frequent as in Hurricane season. The difference is, the rain will flood everything. If you don't build sandbags to keep the water from flooding your base, you'll have a lot of trouble during the seasons, and mosquitos will spawn and poison you, poison being a debuff that drains your health until it hits 0, or you manage to craft or find an antidote. Once Monsoon season ends, it's dry season time. Dry season is clearly the hardest of them all. In dry season, the temperature is really high, and the volcano will start to erupt. Big ♥♥♥ rocks will start falling from the sky, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it. Staying at your base is a bad idea, unless you want it to be destroyed. Since it's hot, you'll have to find a way to cool down without staying at your base, or you'll die of heat. If you manage to survive Dry season, the cycle starts over.

CONCLUSION

Don't Starve is a really fun experience, but the game can feel a little bit empty if you're playing it with no DLCs. I'd recommend grabbing RoG first, and if you like the game, buying Shipwrecked. At first, the game is really hard, and you'll die from really stupid mistakes, but you'll improve as your knowledge of the game improves. Overall, the game is clearly worth it's price, and if you like it, you'll invest countless hours in it, trying to find the best way to survive as long as possible. The controls feel good, and the OST is really good as well.

Don't Starve is a 9.5/10 for me.

This is one of my first reviews, it's probably not that well made, but whatever. Please correct my English mistakes if I made any. Thanks for reading.

"Oh, i just bought this gam-" -Killed by a Bee.
"Ok, one more try" - Killed by a Bee.
"100 days!, 2 giants, 4 seasons, I'm invincible!" - Killed by a Bee.

The Tim Burton style fits this game perfectly, with a bit of survival, and fighting.

>You will fight Giants, Spiders, Metal Chess Things

>You will find Berries, Carrots, Bunnies

>You will have to kill the Bunnies to get Morsel, Pigs/Beefalos/Tallbirds (yes, birds that are, guess what, TALL) to get Meat, Spiders/Merms/Werepigs to get Monster Meat

>You will have to cook all of them if you want to survive.

>You will have to build a shelter if you want to survive.

>You will be INSANE, totally INSANE.

>You will see things. A lot of things.

>You will starve.

>But most importantly... YOU WILL DIE. A LOT.

One of my absolute favorite games. It's quite a challenging game, especially until you get the hang of things. It's a dark, twisted survival game where pretty much everything is trying to kill you. You've got to scavenge, build things, and defend yourself, all while trying to pay attention to the environment (weather) and the fullness of your stomach. The developers also seem to be constantly updating the game and adding huge amounts of awesome content for free. It just keeps expanding and you just keep wanting to play again and again. Highly recommended!

October 2014 Edit: Multiplayer is coming to Don't Starve! It's currently in closed beta at the moment, but should be coming along eventually!

Don't Starve is one of the games I will never forget!I'm sure you ask yourself why? Let me explain:
When I saw the game I were like ,,Naahhhh I'm not going to buy this.'' but a few days later I looked a second time and tought ,,Why not?It looks funny. And it says you can celebrate with your piggy friends.'' that was when I bought it. I can tell you I got addicted to the game. The first day I played 12 h's. I told my brother and my friend they should buy it. They did it and got addicted, too. I think nearly every Computer can run the graphics and the the characters are funny, too. With every game I started a new story war born. For example I started my first game and forgot to make a fire when the night came up I died and I was like ,,Why?I should have know''. And I learned with every new day that the game hates me. The game likes to punch you in the face. And the community is amazing. In the forums you can see artist, storywriters, survivers and so on. Pretty fast updates with new content to explore and even merchandise. It's a tip for everyone who like survival games. You will love it.

Graphics: 10/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Sound: 10/10

Do I recommend this game? Hell yes. Every single time you start a new game file, it's an entirely random generated world where nothing is the same as the last. You can play this game for weeks and still not discover all its secrets. It's a sandbox strategy game that keeps you on your toes for anything and everything that's trying to kill you. And believe me, there's a hundred and one monsters who all want your face on a platter.

GAME TIPS:

1. Always have a means to make fire. Always.
2. Pigs are your friends. Build your base near them.
3. Spiders are not.
4. BEWARE THE BEES.
5. Beefalo herds are awesome. Fill your pockets with their endless poo. Great fire fuel.
6. Prepare for periodic hound attacks. Make spears and tooth traps.
7. Pick flowers.
8. Not starving is the LEAST of your worries.

No matter now much food you save up, no matter what clothing you create, and no matter how long your beard is, a frog is all it takes to destroy your life and make you rage harder than Leonardo DiCaprio at an Oscars event.
9.5/10 Love it.

Edit: Guess this isn't relevant anymore, but go over and get Don't Starve Together so you can rage harder than Texan at a Donald Trump rally.

This survival rougelike is excellent. You are trapped in a cruel, randomly-generated world where everything wants to kill you, and left to fend for yourself in the wilderness. You will start off with nothing, collecting supplies to make a fire and survive your first night. The goal is simple -- survive for as long as possible.

The randomness of the world generation keeps it fresh for every playthrough. There are countless ways to die, ranging from freezing to death to getting mauled by a tentacle. Once you die, you will be forced to start anew, which can be frustrating.

I seriously love this game, and it really is worth picking up. You should also pick up the DLC which adds a lot more challenge to the game. This game is EXTREMELY addicting.
