Galactron Spotlight: Custom Game Lobby

The Open Beta for Awesomenauts 3.3: Rise of Galactron is now available! If you haven't tried it out yet, head over to our Official Forums to find out how you can access the Beta and let us know what you think of all the changes that we've been working on!

Today we'll be talking about the changes to the Custom Game Lobby. This is the fourth installment in our series of Spotlights, and you can find the other episodes by heading over here.

Along with many other aspects of the game, the Custom Game lobby has been overhauled to work faster, be easier to use, and share more relevant information.

At the top of the screen you can now always see what the setting are for that game, and what map you'll be playing on. Figuring out which settings have been changed in a Custom game has also never been easier, as all settings that are not set to the default value for that particular game mode will be highlighted.

On top of all this, the Settings screen has been overhauled completely, making it much easier to actually find the setting you're looking for, and edit them in a much more comprehensive manner.

With the overhaul of this menu, we've also added a feature that has been requested for a long time: the ability to 'unready'! We all know that sometimes you've readied up only to have the match composition change at the last second, prompting players to want to switch teams or tweak some additional settings. Well worry no more, just hit unready and you'll once again be able to do everything you want!

The new Custom Game lobby screen is available in the Open Beta that's available right now. As with any other aspect of the game, we'd love to hear from you! If you have any thoughts to share about this, or encounter any bugs with it, please let us know through the Bug / Feedback form accessible through the main menu in the Beta. If you want to discuss anything in particular, you can also head over to our Official Beta Forums.

Rise of Galactron now in OPEN BETA

The Beta for Awesomenauts 3.3: Rise of Galactron is now available! Log in and try out all the new features that we'll be adding with this massive update!

Among others, this update introduces the new Rejoin system, does away with the old Late-Joining functionality, adds a whole new matchmaking system and party system, and a whole lot more. To learn more about the details of these systems, head over to our Galactron Spotlights, which detail everything you need to know about the new update!

Don't know how to access the Beta? You can find our guide on the official forums. Rest assured: it's pretty easy!

Please let us know what you think of all these changes! In the main menu of the Beta, you'll find links to a bug report and feedback form. Please use these to let us know about any issues you find, or anything you find unintuitive!

The Open Beta will be available until Monday July 25th. We will then close the Beta and begin processing the feedback we've received. Once we've addressed these issues, we'll make the Beta available again. Stay tuned for more news on that!

how to win at awesomenauts.

buy game on sale; use the money you saved to buy the latest overpowered DLC character; win evey match.

TL;DR buy on sale,don't expect too much

1. what is it?
awesomenauts is a "team based" moba 2D shooter, in which 2 teams of 3 players choose one hero from an "ever expanding" roster. In order to destroy the opposing teams turrets and get into their base and destroy their generator.

2. first impressionis
I went into Awesomenauts very impressed. I loved the art-style, the corny-eighties-cartoon feeling to all the characters and i found the core game mechanics to work well.

3. later impressions
The more i played of it however, the more my opinoins changed however. I quickly discovered that the "team-based" part of Awesomenauts is not all its cracked up to be. You see, the game forces you into a rank mode form the very begining, something i'm not too fond of as I usually don't play ranked. (mainly because i'm not very good) From what i can tell instead of being based on how well you completed the objectives, you move up or down the ranks based on how many kills you get, and how many times you die. So you can be the best support character in the game, constanly healing teamates and A.i but if you don't kill many enemy players you won't move up the ranks. I quickly discovered that it was not about the actual objectives or getting your team through the match and rather it was about getting you through the match whilst leeching on your other teammates. what i mean by this is the majority of other players seem to be very selfish, i hardly ever had anyone come to my aid, they would all scarper if I was being attacked by some enemies and the majority of the time i found myself being the only one to destroy turrets.

4. the DLC
My largest gripe is perhaps with the DLC, mainly because there's £155 worth of it! i've never spent that much on a single game in my entire life; and while most of it is costumes or map packs there are some DLC characters. Every time the devs update the game they always release one or two DLc characters with unique move sets the you can only unlock with money. the problem i've found with this is they are always over-powered, they'll either have some devastating unavoidable attack or a sheild that blocks your attacks. The worst thing is however (this also rings true for characters that require you to be a ceratin level to play) that you could be playing agaisnt these characters from your first match. there's no tier system which locks them to a certain rank meaning even bad players can just clean-house with them.

5. Final verdict
I wanted to like this game, i wanted to like it so badly, and I did like it when i first started playing it, and it has a lot of good things going for it, such as a good combat and upgrade system; well designed maps and an overall great concept.
I'm just so saddened that The dev's thought it necessary to try and get people to buy so much DLC and that they messed up the team aspect of a team-based moba/shooter.

saying that, i probably won't stop playing this game, it's fun in small doses and great if you've got a whole team of freinds that you can communicate with. Just don't expect it to become your go-to-game that you'll put thousands of hours into. Just read a couple of reviews of people who've put over 1000 hours into it and you'll see how dead they think it's become.

if your going to buy it, get it when it's on sale, BUT DON'T BE ONE OF THOSE f***ING ♥♥♥♥♥♥ WHO BUYS THE DLC CHARACTERS.

I got this on a Humble Bundle and I am unimpressed. Nothing big here, even for £7. For £1, it will still be a meh.

-Nice gameplay, feels easy to play but really competitive, so it's a lot of fun.
-All the maps have are diferent from each other but didn't change the mechanics.
-All the matches are quick (10-30 each).
-Good characters.
-And.... Wtf!? THE BEST MOBA EVER!!!

This game has potential, but it lacks a solid development support and more consisten updates. I recomend buying it, but dont get your hopes to high, or else you'll be disappointed, as the game is a bit incomplete still.

Oque posso dizer sobre este GAME ?

Conheci awesomenauts em um video de um canal nem me lembro mais ( mas sei que foi muito tempo atras ) e quando eu vi o game parecia ser muito legal então resolvi compra-lo, apos comprar e jogar algumas partidas vi que havia ficado totalmente viciado no jogo ( tipo horas e horas jogando ). após pegar mais ou menos umas 70, 80 horas resolvi dar uma parada pois estava muito viciado nesse maldito jogo. Depois de algumas semanas meu primo resolveu comprar o jogo por ele ter achado legal ( e também por que enchi um pouco o saco dele e.e ) e tal, então voltei a jogar freneticamente o awesomenauts com ele ate não aguentar mais, mais como alegria de pobre dura pouco depois de mais ou menos umas 200 horas de jogo enjoei então resolvi parar por um tempo ç-ç . Até que chega nessas épocas e resolvo voltar a jogar awesomenauts ( nessa minha nova conta steam .-. ) e velho VICIEI de novo shushsu fazer oque quando um jogo é bom como awe não tem como não viciar.

E essa é minha historia com Awesomenauts, FIM.

What can I say about this GAME?

I met awesomenauts in a video to a channel don't even remember (but I know it was a long time ago) and when I saw the game seemed to be pretty cool so I decided to buy it, after buy and play some matches I saw that had been totally addicted to the game (like hours and hours playing). After picking up more or less a 70, 80 hours I decided to take a break because I was very addicted to this damn game. After a few weeks my cousin decided to buy the game because he found legal (and also why I filled his ♥♥♥ a bit and e) and such, so I went back to play the awesomenauts with him until a frenzy not take it anymore, more like joy of poor hard shortly after more or less some 200 hours of gameplay I am sick so I decided to stop for a while ç-ç. Until enough in these times and fix again play awesomenauts (in my new steam account.-.) and old ADDICTED again shushsu do what when a game is good as awe can't fix.

And this is my story with Awesomenauts, END.

Trata-se de MOBA 2D super divertido, excelente para reunir a galera e dar muitas risadas. O jogo é simples: em equipes formadas por três jogadores, o objetivo é derrubar as defesas inimigas, invadir sua base e destruí-la.

- Jogo online, moba 2d, com elementos de plataforma, com times 3x3, e objetivo de destruir a base inimiga.
- Trilha sonora boa e agradável, design bonito. Personagens variados em habilidades e com suas respectivas musicas temas(muito boas).
- As partidas sao no geral rapidas e nao há muita demora pra se achar lobbys. O jogo no geral é fácil de aprender, ate pra quem nao gosta do estilo. Ele é atualizado com frequencia e tbm conta com boas customizações.
- Vão ter partidas maravilhosas que voce vai se sentir o poderoso, dona da p orra toda e vao ter partidas que voce vai chegar no limite do estresse e querer matar alguém( de verdade) haha, oq faz parte...
- Preço super em conta e horas garantidas de diversao.

Awesomenauts é um dos mobas que eu mais gosto.É o estilo comum,destrói torres,mata personagens,destrói o objetivo e ganha.É meio que um jogo de plataforma,misturado com vários elementos de mobas e alguns rpgs.Com alguns elementos únicos e personagens carismáticos,é uma boa iniciação para quem está começando em jogos do gênero e um jogo ótimo para quem já tá acostumado com o estilo.Os servidores não são ótimos,mas são bons,raramente tem algum lag,mas ouça o que eu dizer,quando tá lagado,é bem mais fácil você quitar e perder Pontos da liga,doque ficar aguentando um cara parado te matar e ficar teleportando.Os personagens são bem diferenciados e cada um tem skills,pulos e skins diferentes,além de musicas temas,Sem contar as DLCS que tem,muitas são boas mas só compre mesmo ou se gostar muito do jogo ou se tiver em promoção,além de algumas ser P2W.O design do jogo é muito lindo e bonito,uma coisa visual bonita de se ver.O jogo é constantemente atualizado e tem muito carinho dos desenvolvedores.Cada personagem tem upgrades únicos e gameplays diferenciados.Recomendo pra caramba esse jogo.

I'm sad to add my hat to the pile of negative reviews. Awesomenauts always had a unique sort of charm to it. It's likely the first online game I invested hundreds of hours of my life playing. Ronimo were also the first developers that I really wanted to support. I followed all the streams, bought nearly all the skins as they released and gave 50 bucks to the Starstorm kickstarter.

Unfortunately it's nowhere near as charming as it used to be. The UI used to have character and life to it and the devs kept "updating" it by removing or streamlining features. The shop redesign was the first thing to make me raise an eyebrow. Awesomenauts used to display all the items in a vending machine kind of setup where you could view all the colorful artwork for each upgrade. It clearly had a lot of love put into it. The new "improved" shop system was a transluctent sci-fi styled pull out menu with much tinier icons. While I understand Ronimo wanted to expand the amount of items per row from 3 to 6, they could have just drawn more space in between. There have been many other minor UI changes but that was the most saddening to see.

On top of the life being drained from it, I have a lot of issues with the XP system they introduced back in September. That was the final straw for me. I tried for months to play the game anyway figuring it'd grow on me. It did not. I still can't fathom why Ronimo broke their own game so badly. Snowballing matches happened occasionally under the old system, but after XP was introduced they skyrocketed. The solar drops and respawn time on kills were already strong enough ways to gain advantage, but no. That wasn't enough. Now teams gain buffs to damage and health too! Ronimo also stated their intent was to speed up matches that took too long but that wasn't ever an issue to begin with. My most memorable matches were longer ones where the leading team changed back and forth. Games are way too short now and it's much harder to have a match you feel was worth the time spent.

The XP system patch also needlessly complicated other parts of the game. Ronimo multiplied all health and damage numbers by 10 to make it seem like you were doing more. The problem with this is that every number displayed now has 1 extra digit. You can imagine how much this gets in the way during gameplay. I could tell day 1 that hindering every players view of the match was in no way a good enough tradeoff for bigger numbers. Sure you adjust to it but there was really no point in changing it to begin with. Reverting it could only improve on the issue, after all.

You also used to be able to read how much damage you'd gain for taking an upgrade but the added percentage increases with the XP system make this old method impossible. Instead, every upgrade now states the increase as a percentage. This isn't user-friendly at all. In such a fast paced game where you need to be spending as little time as possible browsing the shop, it's incredibly difficult to tell at a glance how effective an upgrade will be when it's displayed as a percentage. I used to be able to see that I'd get 25 (now 250) extra damage per stage. Now your guess is as good as mine, unless you want to be bothered to calculate percentages as your turret continues to be shredded. I don't need to know the exact numbers sure, but a ballpark figure of what I'm capable of dealing would certainly be appreciated. Again with time you could memorize what does what. However, each character added to the roster makes this more and more of a headache.

I sympathize with the developers. I really do. After putting in so much time and effort on a complete overhaul to the game's mechanics, it would be a colossal waste to revert the changes. That's the issue. Ronimo has its hands tied and can't as a company justify going back to the previous system. Unfortunately the game has to suffer for it. I had many great times with Awesomenauts but I cannot recommend this game anymore.

Literally a dead game. Game had a good community and was alive pretty well during the era where TotalBiscuit was promoting the game as he lend his voice for Vinnie & Spike.

While this game was made back in the day before MOBAs became an all-time high played gaming genre, Awesomenauts was received very well as a fresh and unique game. Which it still is today except for the forced mechanics from similar MOBA's like the EXP (alternatively, the "you will never make a come back") system and other tidbits ("down the throat" competitive) that only did the game more harm than good when there were bigger issues, like stability in games due to peer 2 peer hosting.

Now, with MOBAs like Dota 2 and League of Legends being at a very high popularity, Awesomenauts should also adapt in terms of what is paid and what is free. The free characters that are released once in a while are obviously good and are of high quality as other characters, but there is no reason for characters to be behind a pay wall, especially in this current era with games like League of Legends and Smite where you pay for convinience which is skipping the grind to unlock all the champions/gods.

Just make the game free to play already or release all the characters for free, Ronimo. While it is obvious that the game should be profitable for it to keep receiving updates, people are not going to take a competitive MOBA-genre game seriously that is pay to play with characters locked behind a paywall. The skins are not the problem, it's the paid content behind a paid game that is a problem for the many of potential new players that will look at this game and turn away or buy it on a sale and never touch it again after playing 1-10 matches. It has only been losing players with some "spikes" during big updates/sales which have been lost at a faster rate than the mentioned spike.

I have over 1200 hours into this game and it is finally time to let it go. The community for it has dwindled from what it used to be, every new update just makes the game a little bit more laggy, and the new content the devs keep putting out isn't really worth the money in my opinion. They keep trying to push out new characters and new ideas that feel rushed and untested in the form of new dlc trying to keep alive something that is dying. It's sad to see you go Awesomenauts but to me this is no longer worth a purchase.

The thumbsdown on this review is based upon the fact that the community for the game is dying out, and for a game that is only online competitive multiplayer you need a fan base to keep it going. I cannot forsee this game lasting another couple years before it is dead altogether. Queue times trying to find a match are getting longer and longer. You should have bought the game when it first came out if you wanted the true Awesomenauts experience. It is not worth the purchase anymore.
