Awesomenauts 2.13.5 is now live!


Awesomenauts 2.13.5 is now live! This will be the final update before we release Awesomenauts: Overdrive in a few weeks, and introduces a large number of balance tweaks!

Highlights include the removal of axis-snapping when playing with a controller on Mac / Linux, removal of mini-knockbacks, and an increased base movement speed for all characters, with a proportional reduction in bonus speed from Space Air Max and other relevant footwear.

The year is 3587. Conflict spans the stars as huge robot armies are locked in an enduring stalemate. In their bid for galactic supremacy, they call upon the most powerful group of mercenaries in the universe: the Awesomenauts!

Awesomenauts is a MOBA fitted into the form of an accessible 3-on-3 action platformer. Head out to the online battlefields together with your friends as an online party or in local splitscreen, and never worry about having to wait for an online match because of drop-in matchmaking!

Devise strategies as you upgrade and customize each character's skills to suit your playing style. Expect new items, features, DLC and Awesomenauts to be added regularly!

Gry typu MOBA jakoś nigdy mnie nie potrafiły przekonać, bym się choć nimi trochę fascynował. Natomiast "Awesomenauts" Holenderskiego studia "Ronimo Games" wydanego w 2012 roku sprawił, że zacząłem nieco inaczej patrzeć na ten ostatnio popularny gatunek. Ale co w takim razie było w tej grze, że ją polubiłem, choć wcześniej niezbyt fascynowałem się grami MOBA? Przyjrzyjmy się bliżej owej produkcji. Jak już wspomniałem na początku gra została wydana w 2012 roku przez Holenderskie Studio, którzy byli znani wcześniej z gry "Swords & Soldiers". Awesomenauts to zdecydowanie gra o rzadko spotykanym klimacie, która w kreskówkowej oprawie opowiada o walce w kosmosie między wojownikami. Przez kreskówkową oprawę gra prezentuje się naprawdę ładnie i kolorowo, co jest dużym plusem. Audio też jest na wysokim poziomie. Jest wiele soundtracków, które mogą wpaść w ucho. No dobra, ale co z rozgrywką? 6 Graczy (maximum) zostaje podzielone na 2 drużyny. Ich zadaniem jest zniszczyć wieżyczki wroga i ostatecznie zniszczyć ich główny punkt w bazie. Tak jak w typowym MOBA nasi bohaterowie mają kilka umiejętności. Postaci jest obecnie z 23 (niedługo ma dojść kilka) i większość z nich jest darmowych. Balans postaci po ostatnim updat'cie stał się nieco gorszy, ale da się wytrzymać. Oprócz niszczeniem wieżyczek, zabijaniem wrogich wojowników, niszczeniem droidów, trzeba także zbierać solary- coś w rodzaju kasy, za które kupujemy ulepszenia do umiejętności, podstawowej broni czy samego bohatera (zdobywamy je zabijając wrogów, niszcząc droidów czy niszcząc wieżyczki). Co jakiś czas wzrasta level drużyn (szybkość zwiększania levela zależy od zabitych wrogów i droidów), przez co są zwiększone obrażenia umiejętności i życie bohaterów (Choć według mnie ten pomysł jest słaby). Oprócz tego trybu istnieje też coś w rodzaju deathmatchu, ale szczerze jeszcze tego nie wypróbowałem. Fabuła jakaś istnieje, ale na ogół niezbyt jest rozwinięta. Map jest zaledwie 5, co jest raczej na minus (choć mi akurat to nie przeszkadza) Ja osobiście pokochałem tą produkcję głównie za wyjątkowy klimat i genialny soundtrack. Pomimo takich wad jak ilość map czy balans postaci to myślę, że warto zakupić (najlepiej oczywiście przy obniżonej cenie) zwłaszcza, iż niedługo nadchodzi Update, który ma nieco poprawić przyjemność z grania.

Ah, there goes 'Nauts, she was beautiful once, unique, deceptively simple, cruelly complex. She could chew-up and spit out the unwary who did not look beyond the cute and funny cartoon aesthetic to see the infinite variety and merciless soul of the hunter inside.

But like a heedless beauty queen, she's been at the meth looking for a quick rush and now she's quickly losing her charm.

Some are trying to present the new XP system as a great innovation, a fresh idea. It's nothing more than razor blades crudely slapped onto a hammer to try to force games to finish more quickly.

Briefly, winners get extra rewards so that they can quickly dispatch those annoying losers trying to make an interesting game of it.

With flat percentage increases to damage and health given as you now level-up (as well as the old in-game currency to spend on skills) it's unsurprising that amongst the imaginatively and carefully designed fighters that you can play there have been clear winners and losers - sod balance, fairness, dramatic tension, nuance, the ability of skill to turn a game around, finish the game already and start a new one.

It wasn't needed. Games generally averaged 20-25 minutes, occasionally you'd walkover the opposition in 7 minutes, sometimes a game would become a 50 minute epic, with dramatic turns in the ebb and flow of battle. Desperately needed new maps, designed for quicker games, could have satisfied the devs' lust for speed, but while masses of new characters have generously been given, oddly they won't release new maps beyond the 4 available - they have a guy continually tinkering and making unneeded and often worse changes to the UI, but won't release new maps, which would draw people back in.

Unneccessarily widening any skill gap between players of course benefits experienced players at the expense of newer ones - humiliating new players is not a good way to build your community.

Ronimo have a creative urge to make a new game, they should definitely do that, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. What they shouldn't try to do is rearrange the bones of one of their old games, this was alive before they went Frankenstein on it.

Not long ago I used to think that everyone should play Awesomenauts, now I can only recommend it if the XP system is removed... yes the system will be improved (or maybe they will take the game further away from its origins), but the intent is to make games quicker - the result is less fun - an increase in boring easy games and frustrating impossible games.

I "DID" love awesomenauts. It was the best part of my day everyday after work. Then they rolled out the XP system and now it isn't any fun, nor is it fair at all. Here's why:

All it takes is a 2+ level lead and 90% of the time that team will win. Think about this logically. If a team gets an early lead what sense does it make to not only reward them with more solar than the other team but NOW to ALSO boost their damage and health, significantly, this making them even stronger than before?...It's insanity! Almost every game is determined in the first 1-2 minutes due to who gets the first kill and consequently a level lead.

You can be the best player in the game but if your teammates make ONE wrong move the other team will now have such a strong solar and level lead that they are neigh unbeatable. I've had SO many games since this update where I was the top scoring player in the game (We're talking 10+ kills to 0 deaths) and I lost, sometime 6-10 games in a ROW simply because my teammates made little mistakes in the beginning.

End comment: It should NEVER be as difficult as it is for a team to make a come back. This patch rewards an early lead so heavily that I can only compare it to a wrestling match between a strong guy and a slightly less strong guy, in which the game makers see the strong guy and delusionally think it would be a good idea to give him steriods in order to make him even more difficult to beat. They call that balance?...No, the scales are now tipped so horribly that the game isn't ANY FUN to play anymore!

FIX IT or I'm not ever buying DLC or playing another match again. 99% of the players I've talked to in game HATE the XP system, even when they're winning! STOP IGNORING US!

They broke it. They broke the hell out of it.

They made a leveling system that's team based, meaning as soon a one team gets a lead, it can just stomp all over the other team. Matches used to have slow buildups that could lead standoffs and turnarounds, but now they are 'whoever gets leveled up first wins.' You got currency for killing players, droids, and turrents, but could still outplay your opponent even if you had less money than they did. Now everything stacks with leveling, so if you have a lower level that your opponent you are screwed.

Was it perfect before? No, but I could still enjoy it. This was the game I could unwind to and would hardly ever get upset becuase of a lose. Now it just infuriates me because the enemy team can push harder and down my turrents with ease, and there's nothing I can do because the game is no longer about skill but about who has the bigger numbers. I used to rarely ever ragequit a match, but now 90% of all matched are just steamrolls and If I'm on the losing end I see no pont in sticking around because you only have a fraction of a percentage to turn things around. Matches are faster now, but at the cost it them no longer being interesting or fun.

Uninstalling now. I'll reinstall if this mess gets fixed.
