Version 5.02!


Whoa, would you look at that. Version 5.02 is out and it adds the following;

- New Boss Baddie logo
- Fixed a problem on the options screen where the mouse would select the wrong item
- Updated menu background art
- Lightened Replay/Next text
- Core Boss now moves away from the respawn zone a little quicker (isn't that nice of it)
- Players 2-4 can now quit Peaceful? Mode
- Press to Join text brighter
- Tweaked pacing rates
- Fixed a multiplier bug on Pacifism

- Added Expo feature to Options screen;

-Disables all online features
-Highscore becomes Session Highscore
-Cannot access Data Wipe on main menu or Score page
-Removes distortion effects
-Adds "Really Big Sky" text to main menu
-Unlocks all modes whilst activated
-Quit and Scores button on main menu are blocked
-Expo feature cannot be disabled from the menu, Alt+F4 or hold Escape to quit
-Guides forced on, Performance Graph disabled
-Online score submission disabled
-No shortcut buttons on main menu
-Longer Guide screen
-Cannot overcharge Perks
-Par Bar set to Session score instead of Highscore

Version 5.01!


Really Big Sky 5.01 has been pushed out to Steam and there are some nifty new features;

  • Increased brightness of starbits
  • Disabled automatic window alignment
  • Force the game to run in low settings by adding "low.txt" to your game folder. This overrides any other options! Good for troubleshooting and picnics.
  • Cursor now locked to game window during gameplay
  • Steamworks Achievements added
  • Slowed down difficulty build up for all modes
  • Decreased event generation rate for all modes
  • Reduced vibrations (both intensity and duration)
  • Fixed a bug on the name entry screen
  • Built on Clickteam Fusion 2.5, so there could be minor, non-specific improvements here and there. It only came out a week ago!

Any achievements you have unlocked in-game will be synced over to Steamworks achievements.

Свое детище, талантливые разработчики из Boss Baddie, вероятно тоже сделали за три дня, но до уровня Бога к сожалению не дотянули. Казалось бы, идеальная формула: маленький корабль в открытом космосе, огромные пушки, волны разнообразных врагов и электронная музыка. Все это рушится, когда запускаешь игру, меню, словно сделанное в Adobe Flash, слабый, практически бесполезный корабль. Так же весь игровой процесс сопровождается комментариями какого-то мужика, нашел бы его - дал бы в рыло, пес смердящий. Эта игра может понравится обладателям слабых PC, остальным же, просьба воздержаться. Любопытным фактом является то, что компания Boss Baddie была создана выходцами из Eurocom, которые работали над такими играми, как Dead Space: Extraction (для Wii), Mortal Kombat 3, Crash Bash и многими другими. Правда по их последнему творению не скажешь, что в деле были большие профессионалы, может этих выходцев выгнали за профнепригодность?

I'd like to like this game.
No, really. I would. But the fact is, that it's just too roughed up to be good. It's too unresponsive, there are errors in the menus, even. The text can often be too small, and being half blind like me, all you see are smudges that vaguely resemble words.

I should also mention that the resolution is utterly screwed. You can't play in 1080P fullscreen, and whenver you change resolution, it changes between fullscreen, and windowed mode.

The game needs a LOT of polishing up.

I'll let you decide if it's good or not, but just be warned how rough it is, and how great it would be if it was polished.

A thumping dance track, a ship that can turn into a drill, a sense of speed that borders on dizzying, and a cross between bullet hell and an infinite racer. That's the bare bones of what you get, however what sets RBS apart from many other games is the sheer sense of style involved, this is a game that much like the old Defender, Tempest and other trippy games before it, doesn't shy away from wild, brave use of colour, and plenty of flashy lights. Combined with a thumping techno track, you get the distinct sense that you're taking part in an assault not just on your ship, but on your senses too - and I mean that in the most affectionate way possible.

The only caveat is that I would suggest for the best possible experience, you obtain a gamepad for this one, it works a hell of a lot better using twin sticks as opposed to keyboard/mouse. Just beware the LSD induced dinosaurs.

I imagine if I did LSD while playing Darius and had my childhood best friend sat next to me commenting on the gameplay, the result would be fairly similar to playing this game. D:

Really Big Sky is the most confusing scrolling shooter I've ever played, just shoot the things, avoid the things, and drill through the other things, oh! Don't forget to collect those things and upgrade these things! Sometimes you'll take damage and not have a clue why, other times you'll blow up for the same reason, and sometimes your ship will spew a huge laser and the screen will go multicoloured because, why the ♥♥♥♥ not? Very trial and error but I'm okay with this because it's damn good fun! :P
