What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Project Winter is a unique meld of two of our favorite types of games - Social Deception and Survival. Because of this unique mix, we need additional feedback from our community to ensure gameplay is engaging, exciting, and overall, fun. We plan to implement this feedback to ensure the best final product.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimate the game should be in early access for 3-6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There are three main areas we will focus on during early access:

Player feedback - with the early access build, this is to be considered to be our best step forward, but with somewhat localized testing we need a broader data-set of player feedback. This will affect the game in unknown ways as of now.

Polish - there is a lot of polish that has yet to make it into the game, from animations to quality of life improvements. These will be implemented before 1.0.

Additional features - a number of features have been pared back to stabilize the initial early access builds. Our main focus for additional features for early access is geared towards more ways to interact with other players and the environment. This would include but not limited to: Wider variety of map layouts, additional usable items & actions, varied AI animals, and different random events. Depending on the scope of the player feedback these items may change in substance, priority, or may get cut altogether.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The function and feature set of the Early Access version of Project Winter is considered to be in a “beta” stage, meaning all features are currently supported but we plan to expand on these in the future. Please see the description for more info.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The base price may be increased upon release from Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have a very active discord community as well as newsletters to keep people up to date, both of which can be found at . We will also be communicating via our Steam community discussions, our sub-reddit, and various social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.”

Content update #2: v0.1.6929 - New ways to betray!

Our second content update is now live! We’ve been working really hard to ensure we get new content out to you survivors and traitors as quickly as possible, so we are pleased to announce we will be pushing new content every 2 weeks from now until 1.0! In the meantime, please check out the notes for this weeks content update.

Console Overload:
  • Traitors now have the option to overload a console instead of just helping the survivors use them. Once the consoles are overloaded they will emit a smoke PFX, and can’t be used for 90 seconds. All of the connected consoles will smoke so the traitor can’t be immediately outed.

Hot Spring Overhaul:
  • We’ve completely overhauled the hot springs for both Survivors AND Traitors! Hop in to find out what it does ;)

Animal Guardians:
  • Wolves will now sometimes guard the second objective!

Stat Boost Items:
  • Stat Boosts are now in the form of energy drinks and are found in traitor crates. There are three types of Energy Drinks: Weak Energy Drink, Energy Drink, and Strong Energy Drink. Energy Drinks also have a low chance of spawning inside of crates for Survivors, so you can’t be outed as a traitor just because you have one.

Traps and land mine tweaks:
  • Traitors are now able to see where each other have laid bear traps or landmines.

  • Fixed issue where camera would continue to shake after being killed by animals
  • Fixed issue where key mapping would reset every time the game was launched
  • Fixed issue where text chat would spill out of the input field causing it to overlap with other text
  • Fixed issue where the second objective timer would keep counting down even after being completed which would cause the second traitor drop to occur
  • Made it so music and sfx sliders could go to zero
  • Added setting to toggle mouse cursor lock and made it so setting would remain active after display modes were switched
  • Made it so on the main menu, ESC key now brings up the exit game prompt and doesn't interfere with other menus when pressed
  • Fixed issue with alt-tab after switching between fullscreen and borderless window

About This Game

Betray your friends in this 8 person multiplayer focused on social deception and survival.

Communication and teamwork is essential to the survivors’ ultimate goal of escape. Gather resources, repair structures, and brave the wilderness together. Just beware that there are traitors within the group who will be steadily gaining strength as the match progresses. Traitors only goal is to stop the survivors by any means necessary.

Escape to Survive
As a survivor amongst a group of strangers you will have to collect resources, battle the elements and complete a series of tasks in order to call in one of several rescue vehicles.

Hidden Roles
Amongst the group of survivors, lurk unidentified traitors. The traitors are known to each other but not the survivors. Their goal is to stop the survivors from escaping without being identified and killed.

Survivors cannot escape unless they work together. Players who wander off on their own will have difficulty surviving the elements, can fall victim to hostile wildlife, or become easy targets for the traitors.

There are several ways to communicate with other players, including proximity-based voice chat, private voice chat radio channels, text chat, and emotes - communication is key if the survivors have any hope of completing their tasks and defending against the traitors.

Betrayal & Deception
The traitors are outnumbered and weak when the game begins, they may infiltrate the survivors and earn their trust while they build up their strength. Survivors can never be 100% sure of who to trust. The traitors can take advantage of this by spreading lies, and pitting the survivors against each other.
