What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Balloonatics is at the perfect stage for an Early Access release. We have a solid game with multiplayer support for up to 6 players, and solo challenges for people to test their skills. Early access will allow us to get immediate feedback on the mechanics, balance, and fun of the game before we expand with larger matches, more challenges, and more game modes.

We have plans to introduce more weapons and levels, with a few already in development, and we’re hoping that community feedback will help spark some great ideas.

With Balloonatics, we want VR and non-VR players to be able to play together without either having any significant advantage or disadvantage. We’ve worked hard on balancing the game mechanics to achieve this (special thanks to our beta testers!), but we need feedback from the larger community that early access can provide.

With the game ready to play today, we are eager to get Balloonatics in players hands now while we continue to make improvements and work towards a full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to remain in early access for approximately one year while we complete the features and assets we feel are needed for a full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Features and Content at Full Release
(These may change as we receive community feedback, and will be released throughout early access. We will also continue to add to the game after full release)
  • 6 Characters
  • 4 Arenas
  • Lots of new weapons
  • Player stats
  • Achievements
  • Larger multiplayer matches
  • Custom multiplayer matches
  • Full controller support
  • New multiplayer game modes (we have a few in mind, but we want player feedback).

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core of Balloonatics is already here. You can play 6 single player challenges and you can play multiplayer matches of 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and up to 6 player Free For All.

We currently have 6 characters and 3 arenas with a variety of weapons to suit different play styles and many new weapons in testing that will be released shortly.

There are leaderboards challenges.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We feel the current price suits the features of content of the game in early access. We may consider raising the price as we expand the game or at the time of release, but have no specific plans at this time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are hoping to receive a lot of constructive feedback and ideas from users that will shape the development of the game. We have a lot of ideas, but we know you do too! Changes and new features that we plan will be posted to gather Community feedback.

Balloonatics has evolved thanks to the support we’ve received from friends and early beta testers, and we expect to see continued improvements with feedback from the larger Community.”

Patch 8

In this patch we are finally introducing bots, and some exciting game format changes including respawning!

Bots
  • Bots have been added to party matches allowing you to play solo or with friends in any of the party match types.
  • Bots use the same characters as humans, and need to collect their weapons and powerups just like human players.
  • Free for all games will be topped up with bots up to 5 players.
  • Team matches will split human players across teams before filling any remaining slots with bots.
  • Online matchmaking will continue to use only human players for the time being.

Game Format and Scoring Changes
  • Rounds are now time limited (5 minutes).
  • Points are awarded for damage, with bonuses for balloon pops and downing other players.
  • Downed players will respawn with a full set of balloons but without any previously collected weapons. Previously, the round ended once there was a single player (or team) left with balloons and players would have to wait on the level floor for the match to end.

About This Game

Pilot your basket with skill and speed while collecting weapons to sink your opponents.

Throw some floating mines or use your slingshot to launch a box of angry bees at your opponent. Put up shield walls to protect yourself while you strategically plan your next move. Guns are too easy! Let's see how well you aim when you have to account for wind and weight. Collect, dodge, and attack to be the last Balloonatic in the air.

Playable in both VR and non-VR

Play against (or team up with) VR players and non-VR players at the same time. Balloonatics has been developed with both types of players in mind, and balanced to keep things fair no matter how you choose to play.

Team Battles

Invite your friends and take on your opponents while you navigate your way to victory!

Play with Bots

Bots can be added to solo or party matches allowing you to play larger matches by yourself or with a small group of friends.

Solo Challenges

Put your piloting skills to the test in our single player challenges. Compete on the leaderboards to see how your skills stack up.

Weapons!

Like to play strategic? Deploy some smoke and set a mine trap for your enemies.
Defensive? Set up shields and use your slingshot to take out targets at a distance.
Or just rush in with a bazooka and saw slinger and hope for the best. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Peaceful Environments

Thunderstorms? Falling lava rocks? Giant saws? Yeah, our environments are as peaceful as they come.
