Leaving Early Access: 2027

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Ruin is being developed as a long-term medieval fantasy sandbox MMORPG, and Early Access allows players to directly influence that development.

Early Access allows us to test these systems with real players, identify problems that are difficult to reproduce internally, and improve existing content while continuing to expand the world.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently plan for Ruin to remain in Early Access for approximately one year.

During this period, we plan to continue expanding and polishing the game based on development progress and community feedback, with the goal of reaching full release around one year after entering Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to continue expanding Ruin's world, progression, classes, abilities, runes, professions, dungeons, PvP, guild systems, player settlements, crafting, equipment, creatures, quests, and other sandbox systems.

We also plan to continue improving existing systems such as combat, navigation, world interaction, building, housing, guild towns, the economy, weather, visual presentation, performance, and overall usability.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Players can explore the open world, complete quests, fight creatures, gather resources, learn professions, craft items, fish, build and maintain homes, trade with other players, and develop characters through class abilities, equipment, and runes.

Group content includes dungeons with traditional tank, healer, and damage roles, along with Normal, Heroic, and Heroic+ difficulty progression.

PvP includes battlegrounds and player combat within the world.

Players can also create guilds, establish guild territory, construct and expand guild settlements, terraform land, build defensive structures, and work together on shared progression.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Ruin is free to play and will remain free to play after leaving Early Access.

The optional store focuses on cosmetic and customization content, including character appearances, furniture, mounts, and other vanity items.

Ruin is strictly non-pay-to-win. Real-money purchases do not provide combat power, faster progression, or access to progression currencies.

Character progression is earned through gameplay, completing activities, and advancing through the game. Progression currencies cannot be purchased with real money or store currency.

Store items can also be earned through gameplay, purchased with in-game currency, or discovered within the world.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is an important part of Ruin's development.

Players can report bugs, discuss balance, suggest features, and provide feedback on new systems through the Ruin community and Discord server.

Feedback from Early Access helps guide improvements across the entire game, from gameplay and progression to content, performance, usability, and overall player experience.

We regularly release updates to address bugs, performance issues, balance, and other areas that need improvement.”

About This Game

Welcome to Ruin, a medieval fantasy sandbox MMORPG where players build homes, form guilds, explore an open world, master professions, conquer dungeons, and fight for territory.

Ruin is inspired by the slower, social feel of classic MMORPGs while giving players greater freedom to shape the world around them. Explore alone or with others, gather resources, craft equipment, build settlements, discover dangerous places and develop your character through the activities you choose.

A Medieval Sandbox MMORPG

Ruin is an open world MMORPG built around exploration, progression and player freedom.

Choose a class, learn new abilities, discover runes that change how you play, collect equipment and develop your character while exploring a persistent medieval fantasy world.

Whether you prefer questing, crafting, building, PvP, dungeons, gathering or simply exploring, there are different ways to progress.

Build a Home and Shape the World

Build and maintain your house, place furniture and crafting stations, store resources and develop the surrounding land through terraforming.

Players can gather materials throughout the world and use them to expand what they have built rather than simply returning to a static town between adventures.

Guilds can take this further by establishing their own territory and constructing shared settlements.

Form Guilds and Build Settlements

Guilds can claim territory, terraform the land, construct defensive walls and gates, place shared buildings and manage permissions for their settlement.

Expanding a guild town creates a larger space for members to build, craft, gather and prepare for adventures together.

Explore a Living Fantasy World

Travel through forests, settlements, coastlines, islands, caves and dangerous regions filled with creatures, resources and hidden locations.

The world features changing weather, rain, fog, wind and a day-and-night cycle that alter the atmosphere as you travel.

Bring a cart for supplies, sail the ocean to new lands, go fishing, search for resources or simply head away from established roads and see what you find.

Dungeons and Group Challenges

Tank, healer and damage roles each have an important part to play as your group fights through enemies and bosses in search of better equipment and valuable rewards.

At higher levels, players can take on more difficult Heroic and Heroic+ challenges with increasingly dangerous encounters and improved rewards.

Fight Other Players

Fight other players in organized battlegrounds or encounter conflict while exploring contested areas of the open world.

Guild settlements can be fortified with walls, gates and defensive structures, giving player built locations a meaningful place within the world.

Choose a Class and Shape Your Build

Each class has its own abilities and playstyle, using runes provide additional ways to modify abilities and develop different builds.

Collect equipment, improve your character and experiment with combinations that suit the way you want to play.

Craft, Gather and Trade

Professions are an important part of the world.

Gather resources and use them for crafting, construction and trade. Players can fish, cook, farm, gather materials and create useful equipment and supplies.

Items can be traded between players through the economy, allowing dedicated gatherers and crafters to have a place alongside adventurers and combat-focused players.

Your Place in Ruin

There is no single path through the game.

Build a home. Create a guild town. Master a profession. Explore the wilderness. Hunt for rare equipment. Complete difficult dungeons. Fight other players. Trade with the community.

Ruin is an independently developed MMORPG focused on creating a world where progression is not only about increasing your level, but also about what you build, discover and leave behind.
