What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“When Games Collide’s card balance, collection economy, and local player markets benefit from sustained community play. Early Access will let us test these interconnected systems with real players while improving usability, stability, and presentation.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately seven months, with full release targeted for July 2027. This estimate may change as testing and development progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to include the complete 96-card launch set, refined balance and economy, finished card and environment artwork, polished collection and marketplace experiences, expanded accessibility support, and improved stability and performance.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version includes account persistence, individual collectible card copies, pack opening, collection management, exact-card deckbuilding, card condition and casing, playable matches, rewards, and rating systems. Final artwork, local card-shop interfaces, travel, balance, and production polish remain in development.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We're not planning on changing the price when we leave early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use Steam discussions, structured surveys, gameplay data, and bug reports to guide balance, economy, usability, accessibility, and stability improvements. We will publish development updates and explain significant changes while retaining responsibility for final design decisions.”

About This Game

When Games Collide is an online trading card game where exploration, collecting, and trading are as important as playing matches.

Explore towns and trade

Players explore distant towns for cards, miniatures, and other collectibles. Local card shops and player markets offer different cards and prices depending on the location. Players must visit a location to browse its market, and can buy cards in one town and sell them in another where demand is higher. Players can meet online in these locations to chat, trade, and start direct 1v1 matches without going through matchmaking.

Individual cards that cannot be nerfed

Every owned card is an individual copy with its own condition, ownership history, and match history. Published cards cannot be deleted or nerfed. Balance changes introduce new revisions while existing cards keep their original rules. Older revisions will stop appearing in packs, so players seeking them need to find existing copies. Cards acquired during Alpha and Beta remain in players' collections at public launch.

Build decks and play matches

Players build decks from specific copies in their collections. Each deck has a team designation. Cards from other teams cost two additional mana to play, while neutral cards have no additional team cost. Matches take place in arenas that resemble board games, where character cards appear as 2D battlers with a JRPG-style presentation. Ranked matches reduce the condition of every card in the deck, giving players a choice about which copies to use and which to preserve in a case.

Risk vs. reward

Ranked matches award in-game currency to both the winner and loser. Players can use that currency to buy packs or individual cards listed on local markets. Before a ranked match, players can choose a higher wear multiplier, accepting greater condition loss for larger currency rewards and increased chances of Rare or Mythic card rewards.

Locals, Invaders, and future expansions

The initial release is planned to include 96 cards across two sets: Locals and Invaders. Each expansion will introduce a new genre into the same game, bringing locals, aliens, fantasy characters, and others into competition for dominance.

Compete for control

Ranked leaders can choose a location’s genre styling and the types of rewards that drop or are available there during exploration. Competitive results therefore affect the places other players visit and the collectibles they can find.

Steam Workshop artwork sets

Players can submit complete card-artwork sets through Steam Workshop and use personal sets privately. These sets change how cards look without changing their rules or the individual copies players own. Selected community sets may also be released as paid cosmetic artwork sets after curation. If a curated set is sold, we plan to share revenue from its sales with its creator.
