Airmen Update 1.11.10: Demo Drones and Single Auto Turrets

Airmen 1.11.10 adds a series of new parts. Single auto turrets expand your armament options. The single auto turrets use only one cannon but can rotate 360 degrees compared to their double counterpart's 40 degrees. These turrets will help highly mobile ships take better advantage of their mobility and help lower mobility ships keep up with higher mobility ones.

Ballast balloon options are both expanded and reworked. Their mass and ballast force is increased to match volume costs of normal ballasts. The new ballast rod balloons also follow this relationship and scale it down in size. Regular ballasts have also had their mass decreased to compete with the ease of using the ballast balloons.

If you've grown tired of your ship disintegrating at the hands of laser drones, it can now be demolished by the new Demolition Drone. Demo drones charge directly at their target engine and attempt evasive maneuvers by bobbing up and down along the way. Unlike laser drones, demo drones will be instantly destroyed by any firearm hit. You can encounter the demo drones across the archipelago and in hunt contracts.

Finally, to ease the learning curve of the airship building system, parts preventing placement are highlighted in red. Building hitboxes are a slow part of the game to learn but an incredibly important one. This system helps a lot with the new single auto turrets as their 360 degree rotation creates a large hitbox.

Airmen Update 1.11.9: AI Drone Swarms

Airmen 1.11.9 brushes the dust off your revolver, carbine, and lever action with AI drone swarms. Drones are a new AI exclusive weapon you can now randomly encounter across the Archipelago. They will launch from their deployment bays and revolve around your ship firing at your engines.

The goal with drones is to open up a new form of interaction with AI enemies and to bring unused game mechanics back into relevance. Let me know how it feels to fight the AI armed with drones both as a solo captain and as a crew.

Drones are most easily destroyed using the accuracy of firearms. Hitting the eyes of the drones will inflict a critical hit with damage varying depending on the weapon used. Drones will also be destroyed when colliding with ships or terrain but will try their best to reverse direction before impact. Destroying the drone bay will also caused all spawned drones to immediately detonate.

Join us on Discord for public playtests Friday at 12pm ET, Saturday at 3pm ET, and Monday at 7pm ET.

1.11.9

Major Features
  • Added AI drone swarms. AI ships with drone deployers will launch small drones that circle their target until destroyed.
Minor Features
  • When an AI turret hits its own ship, it will stop firing until it does another clear shot check.

  • Added 3 new hunt contract ships using drones.

  • Added 6 new island spawns using drones.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed AI turrets not changing targets when the target becomes an ally until another enemy is detected.

  • Fixed AI ships giving bounty instead of rewarding gold when defeated.
