About This Game

The taiga doesn't care.

You inherited an old izba deep in the Siberian taiga. Half of it has rotted away, the nearest people are tens of kilometers downriver, and you have never lived like this. You decide to try anyway.

The forest won't wait for you, and it won't forgive a careless mistake. But learn its rules — the river, the weather, the habits of every animal — and it will feed you, warm you and give you a home.

PROMYSEL is a slow, honest survival sandbox about living in the forest, not just surviving it. No story to follow, no monsters, no quest markers. Just the forest, the river, and everything you learn about them.

Every catch is earned

Fish don't bite because you pressed a button. They bite because you found the right place, the right hour and the right bait. Your first perch will be a small event — and you will remember the bend of the river where it happened.

Hunt hare with an old rifle. Take your time: your arms tire, your breath shakes the sight, and the hare hears you first. Dress what you take, carry the meat home, keep the pelt.

Fire is home

Gather stones, dry branches and birch bark from the ground and lay a fire with your own hands. Roast your catch on a skewer. Sit by the river and watch the light go.

Rebuild your izba, log by log

Fell a pine. Buck it to length. Split it. Mark the corners, set boulders for the foundation and raise the walls the way taiga people always have, one course at a time. Nothing appears from a menu: every log in your house is one you cut.

From nothing to a trapper's life

You start with almost nothing: a knife, an axe and a hand line. Everything else you earn.

Furs, fish, berries and mushrooms are what the taiga pays you with. Trade them for what makes the next season easier: better tackle, traps, cartridges, salt, tea and flour. Every trip is a small plan. Every upgrade is something you feel in your hands.

No grind, no rush. Most days end with a full pot and a warm fire. Some days you set a trap line, or follow a moose's tracks for three days. Big successes are rare, and they are yours.

Knowledge is the only progression

There are no skill points and no levels. Your character doesn't get better — you do. You learn where the fish stand in the evening, which slope stays dry, how far a hare runs before it stops.

Mushrooms and berries have no names here. You learn which ones are safe the way people always have: by looking closely, and sometimes by getting it wrong.

A forest that feels real

  • Every tree, plant and animal is a real species of the southern taiga: spruce, fir, pine, birch, aspen, alder, bilberry, lingonberry, reindeer lichen.

  • Late autumn: gray skies, cold rain, the first snow on yellow birches.

  • Rain soaks the ground and the leaves, snow settles on the branches, fog hangs over the water.

  • No monsters, no zombies, no quest markers. Only nature, and the traces of the people who passed here before you.

Alone, or with friends

Play solo, or invite up to five friends in online co-op. Fish together, share the fire, raise the walls of one izba with many hands.

In development

PROMYSEL is made by a solo developer and grows with every update. Already in the forest: fishing, hare hunting, fire, foraging, felling and splitting, the izba foundation, weather and online co-op. Coming next: trapping, bigger game, trading, and finishing your izba, roof, stove and all.

Add PROMYSEL to your wishlist, and come back to the forest whenever you need it.
