What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access lets us develop the four remaining characters progressively, each with their own map, transformation and gameplay elements, while players experience the university library with Mika. Feedback from solo players and groups will help us refine Mika's irritation, hunts, pacing and co-op balance as we build and introduce the new characters and their locations.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Approximately 12 months. This estimate may change as development progresses.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add four more characters beyond Mika, developing and introducing them progressively during Early Access. Each character is planned to have their own map, transformation, behaviors and gameplay elements. We also plan balance, performance and quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback. These are our current development plans, and their details and release order may evolve during Early Access. This would bring the roster to five characters in total, including Mika.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version includes one complete, finishable location: the university library with Mika. It includes the shelving loop, Mika's four forms, hunts and hiding, lights and fuse boxes, 21 perks, 8 tools, work orders, solo and online co-op for up to 4 players with proximity voice chat, Hardcore mode, Steam Cloud, 40 achievements, a leaderboard, full controller support and 10 languages. The four additional characters, along with their own maps, transformations and gameplay elements, are still to be developed and added progressively during Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price when the game leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will use Steam Community discussions, the in-game bug report tool and regular updates to gather feedback on balance, scares, co-op and progression. As we develop and introduce the four remaining characters with their own maps and transformations, player feedback will help us refine each addition alongside the existing library experience.”

Roadmap

Four more residents, five in total

Mika and her university library are available now. During Early Access, we plan to create and introduce four additional characters progressively, each with their own map, transformation, behaviors and gameplay mechanics.

These additional residents and their locations are planned content and are not available yet. We will share progress as they take shape. Details and release order may evolve with development and player feedback.

About This Game

About the Game

The university library has been ransacked. Up to 8,500 books lie on the floor, the lights barely work, and your job is to put every single one back where it belongs.

Mika is still here. She reads at her desk in the reading room, and she does not want anyone tidying her library. Work too fast, run, or talk too loudly and she will notice. Push her too far and she stops being Mika.

Gameplay

Pick up books from the floor, find their section and shelve them slot by slot. Every first placement, completed shelf and finished zone earns money that you spend on the library computer: faster movement, more carrying capacity, guides that show where each book goes, and chain or batch shelving.

Mika reacts to how you work. She shushes you, walks over to throw your freshly shelved books back on the floor, and cuts the lights. When the lights are out she whispers from the dark, and when you turn away from the computer she may already be standing behind you. When her patience runs out she transforms and hunts you through the aisles. Your flashlight can hold her back, but not for long; light switches and fuse boxes bring the lights back, and wardrobes and tables let you hide. If she sees you hide, she will find you. If she inspects your hiding spot, stay completely silent: she can hear your microphone too.

Better Together, Quieter Apart

Play alone or invite up to three friends. In co-op, the library grows with the group, money and upgrades are shared, and you can lift a downed teammate back to their feet. Proximity voice chat lets you coordinate in the dark, but every word you say can draw Mika to you.

Features

  • A satisfying sorting job in a dark PSX-style library: up to 8,500 books, each with its own place.
  • A monster that reacts to how you work: speed, noise and your real voice all make Mika angrier.
  • Scares that change every run: an empty chair, a whisper in the blackout, someone standing behind you at the computer.
  • Four forms of Mika, each more dangerous than the last, with hunts that escalate as the library fills up.
  • Flashlight, light switches, fuse boxes, wardrobes and tables to survive the dark.
  • 21 permanent perks and 8 single-use tools: decoys, a truce box, a protective amulet, a first-aid kit and more.
  • Work orders during the shift that reward you with extra tools.
  • Solo or online co-op for up to 4 players with proximity voice chat.
  • Hardcore mode: one life, and the run is gone if you die.
  • 40 Steam Achievements, a fastest-time leaderboard and Steam Cloud saves.
  • Supports keyboard and mouse or a controller, and 10 interface languages.

Early Access

Sort In Silence is in Early Access with one complete location: the university library and Mika. More locations are planned, shaped by your feedback.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Sort In Silence contains horror, jump scares, monster transformations, chases and player deaths. Mika can attack and kill players. Her monster form has moderate blood. Online co-op includes unmoderated proximity voice chat with per-player mute controls.
