Your train is your soul

Ten years ago everyone woke up bound to an object: a knife, a lamp, a stone, a coin, and etc. Nobody knows why, and nobody knows how to undo it. If the object stops, it takes you with it.

You woke up bound to a train.

ENGINEBOUND is a first-person survival game about keeping one machine alive. Feed its fire, drive it down an endless line, and get through the night.

Keep it burning

Your train needs fuel, repairs and a driver. The fire must never go out, because if it goes out, it takes you with it. Cut wood, carry fuel, patch the hull, and grow the bond with your engine as you work.

Survive the dark

Monsters hunt by night, and light is your best weapon: they burn in your flashlight beam and bolt from the glow of a lamp. They come in many forms: runners, brutes, howlers, lurkers, packs of hounds, light-snuffers that put your lamp out, and bosses. Bears roam the woods too.

• Set bear traps and spike fences

• Shoot a bow, laser gun, use flashlights

• String up a laser emitter

• Put a flashlight on a powered turret stand that turns to the nearest monster by itself

Build, craft, power up

• 30 levels of engine bond open over 120 recipes: tools, lamps, wagons, gear, furniture

• Mine ore, smelt it in a forge, and craft better flashlights

• Build an electric grid: generators, batteries, wires, lamps, levers, a projector

• Cook meals, farm in a planting wagon, keep hens and a goat in an animal wagon

• Fish, hunt, and keep warm when winter comes
  
  

An endless line

The world is generated as you travel: forests, rivers, bridges, tunnels, towns and 18 kinds of landmarks, with changing seasons, weather and moonlit nights. Stations have traders and a delivery desk. Along the line you will find logbooks left by twelve other people, each bound to an object of their own.

You are not alone

Rani is the soul inside your train. She remembers nothing, and she knows as little about the binding as you do. A cat rides with you too. Play with friends through early co-op.
