What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Rin is an AI companion, and the best way to make her conversations feel natural is to hear from real players on many different PCs. Early Access lets us tune her personality, voice, and performance with your feedback while we keep adding features.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Planned improvements (not guaranteed, may change with feedback):
- More natural conversation: steadier casual speech and personality, better memory of the player.
- Better support for more PCs, including clearer guidance or fallback when no NVIDIA GPU is available.
- An in-app credits/license screen and support log export.
- General polish of setup, settings, and English localization.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable. You can talk with Rin by text, push-to-talk, or open voice, and she replies with voice (Japanese or English) and animations. A local AI model is bundled for free offline use (NVIDIA GPU with CUDA required), and cloud AI (Claude / OpenAI / Gemini) can be used with your own API key. Rin's replies are generated live by AI and may sometimes be off or unexpected.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will not change when we leave Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will read the Steam Community discussions and reviews, and use bug reports and conversation feedback to tune Rin's personality and add features. Major updates will be announced in Steam news with change notes.”

About This Game

Someone to talk to, right on your desktop

Rin: Always By Your Side is an AI companion that lives on your desktop. Yamamura Rin sits in a tall window over your wallpaper and keeps you company while you work, game, or take a break.

Rin is casual and friendly, like a close friend. When you're feeling down, she doesn't laugh it off. She listens and stays with you. When you just want to chat, she happily goes along with whatever's on your mind.

Features

  • Talk with your voice: Choose text chat, push-to-talk, or open voice (always listening). Speech recognition runs on your PC.

  • She answers with voice and expressions: Rin speaks with a Japanese voice or an English voice, and her expressions and animations change with her mood.

  • Free, offline AI: A local AI model is included. No API key or internet needed; it runs on your NVIDIA GPU. With enough VRAM, you can download a higher-quality model.

  • Optional cloud AI: Use Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini with your own API key, or connect to Ollama.

  • She remembers you: Rin remembers what matters, like what to call you and things you like. You can view, edit, or clear her memories in Settings.

  • Blends into your desktop: Borderless transparent window. Alt+drag to move her anywhere, settings from the system tray. Switch between full-body (9:16) and bust-up (16:9) camera.

  • Japanese and English: Full interface and voice support in both languages.

  • Graphics presets: Defaults to High, and can be lowered to suit your PC.

Easy setup

On first launch, a wizard asks what Rin should call you and which AI to use. It measures your VRAM and recommends a model and settings that fit your PC.

Please note

  • Rin's replies are generated live by AI and may be inaccurate or unexpected.

  • If you choose a cloud AI, your conversation or voice is sent to that service, and any usage fees are your own.

  • The local AI requires a CUDA-capable NVIDIA GPU.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

This game uses AI to generate content during play. Character dialogue (text) is generated by a large language model (by default a bundled local model, Qwen3-4B; optionally Claude / OpenAI / Gemini with the player's own API key, or Ollama), and the generated lines are read aloud with text-to-speech. A system prompt and output-format restrictions keep the character to friendly small talk. When cloud AI is used, the provider's own safety systems also apply. No images or video are generated. AI replies may occasionally be inaccurate or unexpected.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or better
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or better
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 12 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: Minimum specs assume cloud AI (your own API key). The local AI needs a CUDA-capable NVIDIA GPU with more VRAM. A microphone is needed only for voice input.
    Recommended:
    • OS: Windows 11 (64-bit)
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-12700 / AMD Ryzen 7 7700 or better
    • Memory: 32 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 or better
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 20 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: Storage: 20 GB with the optional 7B model; SSD recommended. Runs the bundled local AI comfortably.
