Sumo wrestlers aren't allowed tattoos. So they drink. Whoever passes out gets tattooed by his friends, then wakes up and has to guess who did it. Guess wrong and it stays on him. An online party game for 4–6 players, starring your own face.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Who Inked Me? is a party game, and party games get good by being played by real groups of friends. The whole match already works online, from the first drink to the last one. What we want to learn from real rooms is the balance: how long a dream should take, how strong and how expensive the dream items should be, how the points and the prize pot feel, and how long a match should last. Early Access lets us tune all of that with the people actually playing it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 6 months, depending on how quickly the balance settles with real players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to keep tuning the rules and the dream items based on your feedback, add more tattoo themes and dream drawings, and polish the animations and the interface. The core of the game stays the same: drink, pass out, get inked, guess who did it.
”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The whole match is playable online with 4–6 players: the bottle spin and the drinks, drawing on the sleeper with a stencil marker, a liner and a shader in ten ink colors, the drunken dream he has to trace, four dream items, the gallery tour, the anonymous vote, the catch card and the accusation. Players meet in a shrine festival lobby (up to 40 players) and start rooms together from its sake stalls. Black tattoos stay on your wrestler between matches, and your face comes from a selfie processed on your own PC. The interface is available in 13 languages. Expect balance changes and some rough edges.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will go up when the full version comes out. If you buy during Early Access, you keep the game and every update at no extra cost.
”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through the Steam discussions: we read the bug reports and suggestions, post patch notes with every update, and try rule changes with players before keeping them.”

About This Game

Drink. Pass out. Get inked. Guess who did it.

The Sumo Association forbids tattoos. The yakuza on TV have gorgeous ones. So a few wrestlers sit down in the dojo with a bottle of sake...

Whoever drinks falls asleep in the middle of the tatami, and everyone else grabs a tattoo machine. Everyone gets the same theme ("a roaring tiger head", "a koi leaping through the waves"...), and everyone draws it on the same sleeping body. Most of them can't draw.

How a round goes

  • The sleeper dreams. Trace a drunken dream with your needle without slipping off the line. Finish it and you wake up — silently. Nobody is told.
  • The others draw. Lean in with a stencil marker, then a liner and a shader in ten ink colors. Keep an eye on his face. Is he still asleep?
  • He might be watching. Awake, he can quietly look around — on a neck that stretches — or shut his eyes and pretend he's still out.
  • Tour and vote. Everyone sees every piece, then votes anonymously. A wheel picks one piece by the votes — unless he plays his catch card and picks one himself.
  • Accuse. He points at a face. Right: the culprit drinks next. Wrong: that piece becomes a real black tattoo, and he drinks again.
  • Three cups in a row and he's out. The prize pot goes to everyone else by their points, and his black tattoos become permanent.

Features

  • Online party game for 4–6 players. Invite friends with a 4-letter room code, or meet strangers at the festival.
  • A shrine festival lobby for up to 40 players: wander the festival in a mask or show your face, sit down at a sake stall, toast, and head into a room together.
  • Your face on a big sumo body: upload any selfie once. It is processed on your own PC and becomes your wrestler's face.
  • Mess with his dream: buy items before the match to shake his dream, fade the line, jolt his needle or squeeze the path, and buy yourself more drawing time.
  • 64 classic tattoo themes: tigers, dragons, koi, swallows, anchors, skulls and more.
  • Your skin keeps the score: black tattoos follow you from match to match. Laser them off with your winnings, or wear them forever.
  • Voice chat with everyone in the room.
  • 13 languages.

Content note

Players draw freely on each other's characters, and drawings are not moderated. Faces made from selfies are visible to the other players in your room; in the festival lobby your face is only shown if you choose to, otherwise you wear a festival mask. Voice chat is on in rooms and in the festival, where you can hear players near you. Characters wear a traditional sumo loincloth.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Drinking sake is the core of the game: whoever drinks passes out, and the others tattoo him. The sumo wrestlers wear a traditional loincloth, so their buttocks are partly visible from behind, but they are never fully nude. Players draw freely on each other's wrestlers during online matches, and the drawings are not moderated. Players can voice chat with each other, including strangers in the festival lobby. Yakuza appear only as tattoo inspiration in a TV news segment.
