Eight players, four colonies, one backyard. You play as a duo: one commands the nest from the war room below, the other defends the anthill outside. Build your colony, hold the line and storm the other nests. In the end, only one queen survives.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Because a game about colonies is best built together with a colony of players. The core is playable from the nuptial flight to the last winter. What it needs now is real feedback on balance, pacing and the fights between colonies.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last roughly 6 to 12 months. The game is already playable from start to finish; we will use this time for polish, balance and new content based on player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More content, finer balance, Steam friend invites and the things you tell us are missing. No second game and no parts sold separately.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable: nuptial flight, nest founding, eight ant species, command mode for your colony, bots, online duos, the Worm Baron, the hunger phase and the winter finale.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't plan to change the price. The Early Access price will stay the same at full release, and all future content will be included at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback, bugs and wild ideas belong in the Steam forum. That is also where you will see what came of them.”

About This Game

Eight players. Four colonies. One queen.

Ant Now? is a competitive co-op multiplayer game for up to eight players. Four duos land in the same backyard, each with its own queen. Together you build your colony, defend your anthill and attack the others. Lose your queen and you are out.

The Commander: down in the war room

Deep in the nest, you see everything. Build chambers, hatch foragers, warriors and kamikaze flying ants, and draw your defensive lines with scent trails. Like in a tower defense game, you decide where the attack breaks. And when the time is right, you send your army out.

The Fighter: up on the anthill

Outside, you are in the thick of it, in third person. With bites, acid, venom or sticky bombs you throw yourself at every attacker, haul food home and grow stronger with every victory. Each of the eight species fights differently.

Only together

The Commander sees the map, the Fighter feels the pressure. Talk to each other or the anthill falls. And when things get hot, either of you can do both.

A backyard battlefield

Juice cartons tower like skyscrapers, the sandbox becomes a desert, the garden pond an ocean. Earthworms burst from the ground without warning, and the Worm Baron lurks in his pit. Slay him and his blessing goes to your whole colony.

Eight real species

Wood ant, fire ant, leafcutter ant, army ant, trap-jaw ant, weaver ant, bulldog ant and the ant that explodes. Each one is built from a real micro-CT scan.

Ten minutes of peace, then war

At the start, every colony builds up undisturbed. Then war breaks out, food runs short, and when winter comes, the strongest queen wins.

Play online with friends or fill empty slots with bots.
