About This Game

1997. A dead mall is host to a game show where you can win big money, if you survive!

You are tonight's contestant. The rules are simple: grab all the cash you can carry, buy upgrades, and get out .. rich!

THIS IS SEASON 1

The whole season: ten mall levels, every boss, all eight lost tapes.

HOW THE SHOW WORKS

Every dollar you carry is AT RISK. Die and it's gone. Make it out and it's BANKED. The riskiest corners pay the most: dead-end stores, Employees Only hallways, and somewhere out there, a golden briefcase worth $2,500!

THE MALL

Ten mall levels per run, every one procedurally generated, and big: the exit is a long way away. Read the mall directories when you see them! Learn the floor fast. Some nights the floor is quiet. Most nights it isn't.

Some walls don't go all the way back. Behind them are the backrooms .. and you're not alone back there.

And at the bottom of the mall .. the basement.

SAFE ROOM

Every floor has a department store. Get inside, pull the gate down, and nothing gets in. For a while ..

THE BOSSES

They can't be killed. You can only slow them down, and then .. run.

• VOID MAN: a faceless mannequin in a staff vest with a handheld register scanner. When it beeps at you, dash. Get scanned and he voids your cash. All he knows is scanning now ..

• THE TALLMAN: too tall for his own good. He doesn't attack. He simply feeds .. on you! The closer he stands, the faster you fade away, and walls don't stop him. He also talks a lot.

• More bosses on the floor. You never know which one is on tonight.

THE MONSTERS

Food Court Crawlers that leap out of the dark. Candy Stripers that twitch, then sprint, screaming. Grinners you only see by their smile. Display Dummies that only move when you're not looking. And on toy nights, packs of Babble Buddies: furry talking toys with glowing eyes that wake each other up.

Oh, and the kiosk people. They just want to ask you a question ..

FAST. VERY FAST.

Be prepared to be always moving. Rocket-jump with the Grand Opening firework launcher. Blast yourself across the food court with the Double Coupon shotgun. Built-in speedrun timer and instant restart.

THE ARSENAL

Hose them down with the Slushie Cannon and watch them shatter. Shred a whole pack with a gun that fires milk caps, 20 a second. Plus the Price Gun 9000, the Plasma Ball, and whatever else is lying around the mall tonight.

THE PRIZE SHOP

Spend your winnings at the cash out: bounce shoes, a skateboard (ollie right over them, kickflip into them, grind the benches!), a bubble wrap suit, a disposable camera that stuns, a fanny pack for a second snack. Every dollar you spend comes off your take home .. is it worth it? Patch yourself up with mall food: Splurge Soda, cold pizza, soft pretzels, food-court hot dogs.

LOST TAPES

Somewhere on the floors: VHS tapes. Take them back to the VCR at the cash out booth. Once you find one, it's yours for good. Nobody knows who recorded them ..

QUEST MODE

Coming in a free update after launch. Same mall, same monsters .. a whole new story. Stay tuned!

SHARE THE SCARE

The game catches your scariest moment. Take it home from the Selfie Booth, or snap a webcam selfie crunched to 1997 camcorder quality, as a share card made for socials and streams.

IT CAME OUT IN 1997

Low-res 3D with vertex wobble, 15-bit color, and a worn VHS tape over all of it. Controller supported.

CAN YOU SURVIVE THE MALL?

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

This game is a collaboration between me and AI tools.. I came up with the game, the monsters, the mall and the scares, and used AI to help build it: writing and testing code, and making some of the key art, store images (video clips made by me). Everything was directed, chosen and edited by hand. No AI runs during gameplay: the mall, monsters and sound effects are all procedural code, and nothing is generated by AI while you play.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Money, Mazes & Monsters is a retro horror shooter. You shoot monsters constantly, and they react with stylized low-poly blood and gibs (bloody chunks when they’re blown apart). Expect horror themes, creepy imagery and jump scares. There’s no sexual content and no real-money gambling: all the game-show cash is in-game only.
