About This Game

Your grandfather left you a tavern. It has seen better days.

Taverns of Aldermont is a first-person tavern game set in the medieval town of Aldermont. You inherit an old, dusty tavern, and it's up to you to build it up and maybe even turn it around. You pour the ale, cook the food, serve the tables and keep an eye on the money - and when the cellar runs low, you head out into town to buy more.

Run the place yourself

  • Pour ale and serve your guests by hand, in first person.
  • Cook from your own cookbook over the hearth and in the oven.
  • Keep track of the economy: buy stock, upgrades and furniture with what you earn.
  • Walk out the door into a whole town full of people and shops - the market, the harbour, the cathedral and the castle on the hill.

Regulars with their own stories

  • Your regulars come back night after night, each with their own personality and story.
  • Your choices have consequences that show up far into the game.
  • Guests talk, gossip, argue, dance and toast - and sometimes start a fight.

Keep the peace - or throw the first punch

  • Talk troublemakers down or throw them out of your house.
  • When words run out, settle it with your own fists: punches, kicks and a well-timed guard.

Five taverns, each one unique

When you earn enough, you can buy another tavern. Each one has its own crowd and its own way of making money.

The Old Hearth - your grandfather's tavern, where it all starts.

The Rusty Anchor - down by the harbour, full of sailors with their own personalities and stories. Row out in a small boat to catch fish in the fjord and sell them in your tavern.

The Thieves' Den - a much rougher crowd of criminals and hardheads. Buy stolen goods at the back door and sell them for more - just watch out for the ones trying to trick you. At the card tables you are the house, and you can sit down and test your luck yourself.

The Seven Tongues - where all the strange races go when they have nowhere else in town. Dwarves don't like sitting with elves, orcs don't like humans, so you'll have to seat your guests carefully. And here you can learn magic: 15 spells to use whenever you see fit.

The Wandering Keg - the last and finest tavern: a large ship with its own crew. Steer it yourself, fish from the deck, and drop anchor at whichever village, monastery, castle or city you like.

Music every night

  • A young lute player walks in and asks for a chance. Hire him, and he gets better the longer he plays for you.
  • Pick the songs yourself from a songbook that grows as you go.

A note from the developer

Hi, I'm Preben. I've always been fascinated by the Middle Ages, and especially by taverns. I wanted a game where I could really feel like I was there, running a tavern of my own - and when I couldn't find one, I decided to make it myself. I've been working on Taverns of Aldermont alone for over a year and a half now. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do, and I'd love to hear what you think!

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Taverns of Aldermont is set in a medieval tavern, and drinking is part of daily life: guests order, drink and get drunk on ale and wine. Brawls break out from time to time, and you can take part yourself - fistfights only, with no blood or gore. Some of the guests' conversations touch on adult themes such as infidelity and affairs, told with crude tavern humour but never shown on screen. Guests also play dice and place bets using in-game coins only.
