About This Game

You're the host. Your friends are the contestants.

Buzzwire turns game night into a quiz show. You pick the clues, read them out, and judge the answers. Your friends race to buzz in from their phone or computer, and the board, scores and countdowns play out on screen for everyone to watch.

Contestants don't need to own Buzzwire or install anything. They open a link, type the room code, and their phone becomes a buzzer.

Made for Discord and Twitch

  • A board built for streaming. Open the board in its own window for a Discord screen share, or add it to OBS as a browser source, sound effects included.
  • Room codes, no setup. Players anywhere join with a 4-letter code. No port forwarding, no accounts.
  • Fair buzzers over the internet. Buzzwire measures each player's connection and subtracts the lag, so the fastest reaction wins, not the closest player.
  • A console just for you. Answers, scores and every control stay on your screen, never on the board. Answers stay covered until you tap them, so you never read one out by accident.
  • Host from a tablet or a controller. Scan a code with your iPad on the same Wi-Fi, or pick up a gamepad, and run the whole show from the couch.
  • Your room, your rules. Lock the room once the show starts, change the code if it leaks, remove anyone who wandered in, or pause for a quick break.

Couch mode: one TV, four controllers

Playing in the same room? Put the board on the TV and hand out controllers. Up to four players grab a pad, press a button to take a seat, and pick their arcade initials on screen, all at the same time. Then they buzz in with any face button, and whoever has control steers the board with the D-pad. PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and Steam Deck controllers all work through Steam Input, and the board shows each player their own controller's buttons. For the Final, players scan a code to wager and answer on their phone, or just write it down.

Bring your audience in

Only a few people get a podium, but everyone watching can play.
  • Play along. Viewers open the same join link on their phone, answer every clue privately, and climb their own leaderboard. The board shows how the crowd did after each clue.
  • Chat's pick. Let Twitch chat vote on the next category with !pick, with live vote bars on the board.
  • Chat steal. When nobody gets a clue, chat gets a few seconds to steal it with !steal before the answer is revealed.
  • Call the winner. Chat bets on who'll win before the Final, and the end screen shows whether they called it.
  • Chat battles. Contestants who stream add their own channel, and their chats compete as teams.
Buzzwire reads public Twitch chat without asking anyone to log in. Viewers and chat never change the contestants' scores.

Run it your way

Every rule is a setting:
  • Number of rounds, and what each clue is worth
  • Jackpots hidden on the board, and how much players can bet on them
  • A Final round where everyone wagers on one last clue
  • Unlock buzzers yourself after reading, or as soon as the clue appears
  • What happens when someone buzzes too early: a short lockout, or let them answer while the clue disappears
  • Second chances, answer timers, penalties for wrong answers, and whether scores can go negative

Over 3,300 clues, a fresh board every show

Buzzwire comes with 18 original starter packs, each holding three boards' worth of categories. Every show deals a new set at random, so the same pack plays differently each time:
  • General Knowledge, History & Geography, Science & Nature, Food & Drink, Words & Wordplay, Books & Art, Mythology & Legends
  • Movies & TV, Music, Sports, Video Games, Internet & Tech, Anime & Animation, Kids & Family
  • Fan favorites: Superhero Cinema, Capes & Comics, Sci-Fi Sagas, Fantasy Epics
Classic wordplay categories are mixed in throughout: answers that end in Y, rhyme, or hide an animal, before & afters, and actors who've shared the screen with a famous star.

The questions are original fan trivia; Buzzwire isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any of the films, shows, books, comics or games they're about.

Mix packs for a themed night or pick Select all for everything at once, then leave out the packs you don't want. Choose categories yourself or let Buzzwire deal them. Boards are balanced so a round doesn't pile up the hardest categories.

Write your own questions

Build packs in the editor, which is laid out like the game board, or import a spreadsheet from Excel or Google Sheets. Add more categories than fit on one board and each show deals a different set.

Share your packs on the Steam Workshop, and play the ones other hosts have written. Packs you subscribe to show up in your library, ready to play.

Stats for the commercial break

Buzzwire tracks who's quickest on the buzzer, the closest races, the longest streaks, the biggest comebacks, and more. Put the stats on the board between rounds, with talking points ready for you to read out.

Never lose a show

Every show is saved as it happens. If your PC crashes or you close the window, pick up exactly where you left off. Contestants on the same room code reconnect on their own. Your packs and saves follow you between PCs with Steam Cloud.
