About This Game

ALT VIDEO puts your movie collection on the shelves of an early-2000s video store. Walk in, look around, and pick something to watch tonight.

Remember browsing the aisles on a Friday night? Browse your own collection the same way. Walk between the shelves, stop at a cover, and take a closer look.

Start with the included shelf, then bring in what you already have:

  • Jellyfin: sign in to your own server and your movies and TV shows go on the shelves, with your server's cover art.
  • Letterboxd: import your exported Letterboxd files for the films you've watched and rated, and your watchlist.
  • Your discs: add the DVDs, Blu-rays and tapes you own by hand.

Your collection is saved on your PC. Adding a title does not provide the film or bypass copy protection.

See something you like? Pick up the case and turn it over. Read its details and your own rating, where available.

Stay for a film

Sit down in the store's viewing room and watch.

  • Play movies and TV episodes from your Jellyfin server. If your computer can't play a file as it is, your server converts it for you.
  • Play a compatible local MP4 file.
  • Pause, seek, pick up where you left off, and turn on subtitles. Return to the store when you're done.

Playback depends on your server and your files. Not every file plays.

Give your store a name. Your collection and your sign make it yours.

Can't decide what to watch tonight? Ask the clerk for three picks from your collection.

On your monitor

Browse on Windows with a keyboard and mouse.

  • Your own video store, with aisles, a counter, a clerk and a viewing room
  • Movies and TV shows from your Jellyfin server, with your server's art
  • A starter shelf of original titles
  • The included short film Sintel

Looking for a store management game? This is not one. There are no customers to serve and nothing to restock. ALT VIDEO is your own collection, in a video store you can walk through.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

ALT VIDEO includes the animated short film Sintel. The film contains fantasy combat, weapons, visible blood and injuries, a creature being killed, frightening scenes and emotional distress.
