What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Jinjja World is complete: lessons, quests, events and the whole city are in the game. What only real players can show us is the game played at scale, and with it the bugs that neither our human testers nor our automated tests have found. In Early Access we find and fix them together with you, and we want to add more languages from which you can learn Korean.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect about 4 months. We will leave Early Access once the bugs players find are fixed.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The content is complete and stays as it is. For the full version we plan to fix the bugs found during Early Access and to add more languages from which you can learn Korean.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Jinjja World is complete and playable from the first lesson, with no prior knowledge needed. Explore twelve districts of Seoul, learn at Mijae University with nearly 300 grammar lessons, learn to read and write at the Jinjja Hangul Atelier, audition at the Production Studio, take on 160 Dokkaebi in listening duels, play quests, events and party games with others, and decorate your home. Menus and help are available in English, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and French. What we are looking for now are the bugs that only show up when many people play.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. Jinjja World is free to play, during Early Access and after. Learning content stays free, and learning progress and language proficiency cannot be bought.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Report bugs and tell us what works and what doesn't with the Feedback button in the main menu or in the Steam discussions. Your feedback goes straight to the team. You'll find what we fixed in the Patch Notes in the main menu.”

About This Game

Your life in Jinjja. Learn Korean. Play together.
Learn Korean in a free online world: practice your first sentences at university, audition with your own voice and put your listening skills to the test in Dokkaebi duels. Along the way, meet other Korea fans and make Jinjja your home.

Start with no prior knowledge. Audio, romanization and translations help you get going.

Your first sentence. No prior knowledge needed.
At Mijae University, discover how Korean sentences work. Every sentence comes with a translation, romanization and audio in a female voice, a male voice and a slow version. Words and grammar return at intervals to help you remember them.

Practice grammar and vocabulary on your own, without a group or a microphone.

Your first take. Practice. Audition. Use your voice.
At the Production Studio, get a script, practice your lines and perform them yourself. You need a microphone to record your voice. You can also earn Won, Jinjja’s in-game currency, through part-time jobs.

Your Korean decides the duel. 160 Dokkaebi. Listen closely.
Meet the Dokkaebi: 160 little spirits inspired by Korean folklore. Put your Korean to the test in listening duels. Listen closely — your comprehension makes the difference.

Find your people.

Make friends, head out together or start a fan club with its own clubhouse. Chat with up to eight people in voice chat.

Every evening at 8:00 p.m. Berlin time, “An Evening in Jinjja” takes place on the gamehouse roof. Movie nights are held on Fridays and Saturdays.

Your place in Jinjja.

Decorate your home, all the way up to a hanok, a traditional Korean house. Track your learning progress in four areas: communication, grammar, speaking and vocabulary.

Take Jinjja with you.

Sign in with Steam or link your existing Jinjja account. Play in the same world with the same account on Steam and in a browser on your computer or phone. Your learning progress stays with you when you switch devices.

Free to learn. Optional extras.

Learning content is free. Optional purchases are planned for outfits, name changes and Jinjja+. Jinjja+ lasts 28 days at a time, with no automatic renewal. It provides additional game benefits, including higher Won rewards and better chances of finding items. Learning progress and language proficiency cannot be bought.

Good to know

  • Jinjja World is in Early Access (Open Beta): the game is complete and free, and your bug reports help us polish it.
  • An internet connection is required even when playing on your own. You need a microphone to record audition lines and speak in voice chat.
  • Menus and help are available in English, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and French. Korean is the language you learn.
  • Grammar lessons follow the NIKL’s International Standard Curriculum for Korean (2017). Jinjja World is independent and not certified. It complements your course or textbook and does not provide TOPIK preparation.
  • Illustrations, voices and music were created using AI tools under human direction. The chapter images in this description are illustrations.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

We use AI tools during development. All AI-generated content is selected, edited and integrated by us before it ships, and the game ships no content generated while you play.

- Voice audio: The spoken Korean (female, male and slow voices) is synthesized with text-to-speech models (Chatterbox Multilingual, cloned from openly licensed CC BY 4.0 reference recordings; a few lines with ElevenLabs). There are no human voice actors.
- Art: Most 2D art (character parts, outfits, buildings, interiors, props, items, creature companions, backgrounds and webtoon panels) was created with AI image generators (OpenAI image models, FLUX.2) and then curated and edited. Some figures, props, signs and subtitles are drawn in code.
- Music and sound: Background music, film music and sound effects were generated with ElevenLabs.
- Text: Korean learning content, dialogue and quests, and the translations of the game into English, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and French were written with the help of AI language models and checked with automated tests and AI-assisted language review. The grammar follows the NIKL International Standard Curriculum for Korean (2017).
- Cutscenes are animated in code; their backgrounds are AI-generated images. No AI video is used in the game.
- Marketing and store page: Store-page art (capsules, key art, banners) was generated with AI image tools (OpenAI gpt-image-2) from our own character and creature designs and reviewed by us. Trailers combine real in-game footage, code-generated films, AI-generated background paintings and AI-generated music (ElevenLabs). Screenshots show real gameplay only.

None. The game does not generate any text, images, audio or video with AI while you play. For optional pronunciation exercises, your recording is sent to Microsoft Azure Speech, which analyzes your pronunciation and returns a score; it does not create content.

Connects to 3rd-Party Service for AI Content Generation: Microsoft Azure AI Speech (pronunciation assessment)
