About This Game

A village that unfolds from a storybook.

Open the book, and a little village pops up off the page, one paper tile at a time. Lay meadows, woods, fields, lanes and streams on the printed hexes, and watch each one fold up into hedges, trees, cottages and windmills.

Every villager has a story.

Villagers move in with wishes about their corner of the map: Lithu wants a path to the lighthouse to bring Grandpa Wick his bread, Avi wants fields around his windmill, Nell wants meadows for her sheep and water for them to drink. Each wish that comes true leads to the next, and every villager's story carries on from page to page.

Your village, your storybook.

As you play, the book writes your village's story: a line for every wish that comes true and every neighbour who moves in. When a page is done, the camera visits each of those moments, takes its picture and files it in an album, and then you can look around the village you built for as long as you like. Save the pictures you like.

Features

  • Cozy and unhurried. No timer and no way to lose. Only streams and rocky ridges have to join up; everything else fits wherever you like, and a tile that matches on every side earns a little extra.

  • Wishes that shape the map. Paths to landmarks, bridges, meadows around a cottage, woods and fields to grow, homes along a lane: six kinds of wish, woven into stories of three to five wishes for each villager.

  • Keep a tile for later. Not the right moment for the tile in your hand? Keep it in the slot beside it, and swap it back when the spot for it turns up.

  • The Patchwork tile. When a villager's whole story has come true, they sew you a patchwork tile that fits anywhere.

  • A paper-craft look. Every tile, villager and landmark is cut, folded and lit like a pop-up book on a wooden table, with paper grain and soft shadows. The page is alive: the trees sway in the breeze, smoke curls from the chimneys, and rabbits, deer, ducks and birds make their homes among the tiles. Paper boats sail the streams, carts trundle down the lanes between the houses, and the water ripples as you build.

  • Five chapters and a finale, from spring meadows to a summer cove, the desert's dunes and oasis, autumn mountains and a snowy winter; a free-play book to build as you like; and a daily page with the same tiles for everyone and a leaderboard.

  • Endless mode. One map with no edges that unfolds as your village grows, in the land you choose when you start. No wishes and no chapters: you start with a small stack, and every perfect fit and every finished wood, field, lane or stream earns more tiles. Play for ten minutes, or build a valley of a thousand tiles, with a leaderboard.

  • Quick games, map codes and landmarks. A quick game of 70 tiles takes about fifteen minutes and has its own leaderboard. Every map has a short code, so friends can play the same one. And each land has landmarks to discover as your village grows; every one you find is kept in your collection.

  • By day and by lamplight. Every chapter's second page is played at night: the room darkens, the desk lamp lights the book, windows glow, and the stories turn a little darker (a lamb lost in the dark, a boat in the fog, wolves on the ridge that the paths must go the long way round).

  • Three books to keep. The game saves after every tile, and your books follow you with Steam Cloud.

  • Music for every land. Gentle pieces for each land, softer ones for the night pages, and a living soundscape of birdsong, waves, wind and rain.

  • Play your way. Mouse and keyboard or a controller, rebindable controls, and settings for text size, brightness and calm motion. Wishes and grounds never rely on color alone (wishes have shapes, grounds have patterns), and the storybook at the end of a page can be shortened or turn its own pages.

  • Six languages: English, Deutsch, Français, Español, 日本語 and 简体中文.
