What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're a two-person team making Flopball. The game has reached a point where you can hit the pitch and enjoy its chaotic matches together, and we still have plenty of ideas for taking it further.

We want to let players jump in now and develop the game around real matches, bug reports, and community suggestions. Your experiences will help us identify what needs more work and which additions to prioritize.

Early Access sales will help fund continued development. At the same time, we want Flopball to be worth buying for the content you can play today.
”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to stay in Early Access for about a year. We want to use that time to expand the content, test new modes, and refine the game together with the community.

This is an estimate and may change depending on development progress and player feedback. We'll share progress updates and any changes to the timeline through Steam announcements and our Discord server.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our goal is to bring much more variety to the game. We plan to add at least six new maps and roughly double the number of available power-ups, balls, and in-match events.

We also want to introduce several new modes, including free-for-all, where every player competes for victory on their own. Alongside these additions, we plan to keep refining the balance, controls, and stability of online play.

These are our current development goals. The exact scope and order of additions may change based on testing, community feedback, and what we can achieve as a two-person team.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version lets you play online matches, create lobbies, and join other players. It includes physics-based gameplay, character customization, and progression and statistics systems.

The game is playable but still in development. You may encounter bugs, balance issues, or features that need more polish. The "About This Game" section describes the current content, and we'll detail changes in our update notes.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep the same regular price throughout Early Access and after the full release. We do not plan to raise the price for the launch of version 1.0. If our pricing plans change, we'll let players know in advance.
”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our game's Discord server is the main place to get in touch with us, and you'll find a link on the Steam store page. We're active there, chatting with players and gathering suggestions and bug reports. We want to discuss ideas for new maps, modes, and other additions together, as well as hear your thoughts on each update.

Your experiences will help shape our priorities and Flopball's direction. As a two-person team, we won't be able to implement every suggestion, but we value open discussion and explaining the decisions we make. We plan to share development news and updates on both Discord and Steam.”

About This Game

Great plan. Shame about the slide tackle.

Pass, shoot and try to stay on your feet. Flopball is a football party game for up to 6 players online, where a brilliant play can end in a spectacular goal—or a pile of players in the goalmouth.

Control your own player, work with your team and find your chance to score. Just keep an eye on the opposition. Feet aren’t the only things they’re allowed to swing.

Football. Fists. Physics.

String together passes, sprint into space and unleash powerful shots. Shut down an attack with a slide tackle, or let your fists do the talking when things get crowded. Physical collisions and ragdoll tumbles can make even a terrible defensive effort worth watching.

Teamwork and timing matter. You can work on the landing later.

The pitch has other plans

Play on a meadow, in a volcanic arena, inside a cathedral or out in space. Each of the four arenas has its own events ready to ruin a perfectly good game plan.

Lightning, falling rocks, zombies and a black hole mean the player you’re marking might be the least of your worries.

One power-up. Whole new ball game.

Grab power-ups to gain an edge or throw a little chaos into the match. A flaming ball, a blast that sends rivals flying or a flipped screen can turn a straightforward play into a scramble to figure out which way is up—and where the goal went.

Prefer to focus on the football? Customise your match settings, including the arena, ball type, match length, power-ups and arena events.

Get the team together. The warm-up starts in the locker room.

Invite your friends to a shared lobby and pick your teams. The playable locker room gives you somewhere to run around and rough each other up before the first whistle.

When your friends are offline, take on the bots. Learn the basics in the tutorial before setting your sights on your first goal.

Dress for the goal you want.

Earn coins by playing, unlock cosmetic items and give your player a look of their own. Mix and match outfits and colours, save your favourite combinations and step onto the pitch in style.

A good outfit won’t fix your aim. But you’ll look great in the replay of that fall.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Flopball contains stylized violence, including punching, sliding tackles, blood effects, dismemberment caused by arena hazards, and zombies breaking apart when defeated. Bloody effects also appear when players respawn and after goals.
