What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“PAPERWORKS already has a playable core loop, but its physical handling, machine balance, and automation are best refined with players. Early Access lets us test how those systems feel over longer sessions and use feedback to decide what needs the most attention.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect PAPERWORKS to remain in Early Access for approximately six months from its Early Access launch. This is an estimate, and the timeframe may change depending on player feedback and progress on balance, usability, and performance improvements. We will share progress and any changes to this estimate through Steam announcements.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to deepen the archive mystery, expand what lies beyond the office, and continue improving machines, automation, progression, and polish. These are current plans rather than guaranteed features or a fixed release schedule; player feedback may change priorities.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current game is playable in a 1980s office. Players can process books, tapes, and discs; scan, shred, and burn material; carry and throw physical objects; use cleanup tools; buy upgrades at the terminal; and build conveyor routes. Some records can be read, and clearing the stacks reveals a hidden door. The larger story and additional secret spaces are still in development.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not plan to increase the price during Early Access or when the game leaves Early Access. The full version is planned to have the same base price as the Early Access version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players can share feedback, suggestions, and bug reports in the Steam Community discussions. We plan to use this feedback to prioritize improvements to physical handling, machine behavior, automation, progression balance, accessibility, interface clarity, and performance. For example, reports about materials getting stuck or confusing upgrade choices will help us decide which interactions and explanations to revise. We plan to share development updates and patch notes through Steam announcements, including how player feedback has informed changes.”

About This Game

An office full of history. A furnace that pays.

PAPERWORKS is a first-person incremental game set in an office stuck in 1987. Take books from towering stacks, scan their contents, shred the originals, and burn the remains for money.

Handle it yourself

Carry several books, throw them onto a scanner, collect what comes out, and use baskets, a broom, and a magnet to keep materials moving. Physical objects can bounce, pile up, and interrupt even your neatest plan.

More than books

Tapes and discs bring other kinds of records—and more machines to operate. Read what you can before it is gone.

Build the line

Spend your earnings at the terminal on machine upgrades. Place and raise conveyor sections, connect a route toward the furnace, and turn a manual routine into a working production line.

Read between the lines

As the stacks shrink, a hidden door emerges. The archive offers clues that the instructions you were given may not tell the whole story.
