What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is complete and playable from start to finish: twelve bosses, three acts, ten Ascension levels, multiplayer and clubs are all live. What's missing isn't content, it's FEEDBACK. The balance of the eighteen powers and the difficulty curve were tuned on simulations, on my own games and on those of a few people close to me. Now I want to tune them with players, in public.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly six to twelve months. That's not a promised date: 1.0 ships when the balance has held up against real players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“What's planned, with no promised dates: power and economy balance refined on real games, extra Arena tiers, Ranked seasons. Everything described on this page already exists.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Complete and playable from start to finish: the Ascension campaign (twelve bosses, three acts, ten difficulty levels), all eighteen powers with their three mastery levels, a four-level AI, Contracts, the Arena, online Duels for two to four players, Ranked and clubs. The interface and the cinematic texts are translated into thirteen languages.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No price increase is planned for 1.0. If the price ever changes, it will be announced ahead of time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The game's Discord is open: that's where feedback comes in and where balance decisions are explained. Every update ships with patch notes written to be read.”

About This Game

What if the conspiracy theories were true?

Sam takes conspiracy theories apart one by one, evidence in hand, in front of two million subscribers. He has always been right about the forum paranoiacs. It made him lazy.

Then a door opens onto the Club, founded in 1944: Art Deco, whisky, and a table where the great Projects that shape the planet are settled with dice. Everything Sam spent his life mocking is playing out in front of him, in three-piece suits, around a green baize table.

He walks in out of curiosity. He stays to learn how to rig it.

Eighteen powers. Five dice. Three rolls.

A scoresheet and rules you already know. What changes: every die is loaded and carries a power, and out of the eighteen, you only bring five to the table.

  • The Loaded Die rerolls a die you didn't keep, without costing you a roll.

  • The Bluff scores zero in a box, and the box stays open.

  • The Grand Jury moves a score you already wrote to an empty box, rescored with the same dice.

  • The Omerta adds two points to each of your scores for three turns, and makes your sheet unreadable to your opponent.

Twelve bosses, no two alike

The Ascension is the main mode, story-driven: twelve bosses, three acts, then ten levels, each with its own cruel rule. One freezes one of your dice for three turns. Another takes a quarter of your big scores. A third gives you twenty seconds to decide. They talk, and they react to what you play.

Every boss you beat lets you pick one power out of two. Powers can't be bought and aren't random drops: you win them, boss after boss.

Alone, or online when it suits you

  • Face the AI: four opponents, from The Rookie to The Don. The Don calculates every move.

  • Daily Contracts: three challenges, and a stake you lose if you fail.

  • The Arena: a run of duels and a growing pot. Keep going, or walk away with it.

  • The Duel: two to four players, asynchronous. Take your turn at lunch, the others take theirs in the evening, and the game shows you when it's your move.

  • Ranked: The Pyramid, Influence Points, and a top-50 leaderboard.

  • Clubs: found your own or join one, with its registry, its wall and its office.

Premium. That's it.

One price, the whole game. No ads, no microtransactions, no premium currency. Y$, the game's currency, is earned by playing and sold nowhere.

What this is not

Not a roguelike, not an idle game, not free-to-play. It is a dice game, played seriously, with a story that does not talk down to you.

Who made it

I'm Nordine, and I made Dice Mafia alone (except the piano: those are recordings by Jérôme Chauvel). Over 25 years in video games and the web: I co-founded the DOWiNO studio, where I designed dozens of games, including A Blind Legend. AI drew, wrote and coded. I decided, played, broke and rebuilt for months, until it was the game I wanted.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

I'm a game designer. To make a game this size on my own, despite my gaps in programming and illustration, I chose AI and iterated a lot. Its exact share:

Made by AI: the illustrations (I hand-fixed botched dice pips on two or three), most shots of the five cutscenes (animated from those images) and the cutscene music, the "Yatzy!" shouts, all text and dialogue, written from my directions, the translations into 13 languages, checked automatically, and the code, written with an AI coding assistant credited on the About screen.

Made with AI: the game and level design. I laid the foundations (rules, powers, Boss progression), then refined them with AI. A few sound effects are generated; the rest come from Freesound or my own tinkering.

Made without AI: the soundtrack, 36 recordings by pianist Jérôme Chauvel, mostly public-domain classics. And the "AI" opponents only calculate odds.
