What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“With Early Access, our goal is to involve the community in the development of Age of Borders from the very beginning. A grand strategy game depends on its balance: how quickly crises escalate, how the AI chooses its wars and alliances, how economies hold up under pressure, and whether each ending feels earned. Player feedback will help us understand what feels believable, challenging and rewarding. By seeing how players approach diplomacy, deterrence and war with many different nations, we can refine the crisis system, AI, economy, military mechanics and overall pacing based on real player experiences rather than assumptions.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Age of Borders to remain in Early Access for approximately 6 months. During this time, we will focus on improving the core gameplay, balancing the economy, AI and crisis systems, adding new content and responding to player feedback. Our goal is for the game to feel polished, deep and highly replayable before the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to include more nation-specific national focus trees, additional crises and scenarios, new events and decisions, naval warfare and further improvements to the AI. We also plan to refine the translations based on player feedback and to improve the user interface, tutorials, map readability, performance and overall game feel. Depending on what we learn from the community during Early Access, we may add new features and mechanics. We are also evaluating multiplayer, but we cannot commit to it at this stage.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version already contains the complete core experience of Age of Borders. You can play as any of over 200 nations from March 2027 until your game reaches one of its endings, and every major system is playable: national focus trees, industry and production, research, resources and trade, diplomacy and alliances, fronts and battle plans, air warfare, missiles, nuclear weapons, covert operations, the crisis system, World War III and multiple endings. A step-by-step tutorial, war-time guidance and an in-game manual are included. Throughout Early Access, we will keep improving balance, AI behavior, readability, performance and the overall experience, and we will add new content along the way. The game is fully playable in 11 languages: English, German, French, Spanish (Spain), Italian, Polish, Russian, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Turkish, and it picks your system language automatically. The game also includes 15 Steam achievements.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not plan to raise or change the price when Early Access ends. The full version is intended to be offered at the same price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to actively gather feedback through Steam Discussions, our Discord server and an in-game feedback option. Players will be able to share suggestions, report bugs, discuss balance and AI behavior, and help us decide which nations, crises and features to prioritize next. Community feedback will play a key role in shaping the development of Age of Borders and its future content.”

About This Game

The world is one decision away from war.

March 2027. The war in Eastern Europe grinds on, warships shadow each other in the Taiwan Strait, and the world has never been closer to midnight. Age of Borders is a real-time grand strategy game with adjustable speed and pause, played on a detailed map of the real world. Take command of any of over 200 nations, from a global superpower to a small state caught between rival blocs, and guide its economy, politics, diplomacy and armed forces through the most dangerous decade of the century.

Will you broker peace, build a regional power, or lead your alliance through World War III? The world does not follow a script. It reacts to what you do.

Nine Flashpoints, One Clock to Midnight

World tension is not a meter that simply fills up on its own. It comes from nine realistic flashpoints: the Taiwan Strait, the Baltic and the Suwałki Gap, the spillover of the war in Ukraine, the Korean Peninsula, Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, the South China Sea, Kashmir, the Arctic and the South Caucasus.
  • Each crisis climbs a five-step escalation ladder, from gray-zone pressure to blockades, mobilization and open war.
  • How fast a crisis escalates depends on the balance of power, deterrence, alliances and what is happening in the other crises.
  • Mediate between the parties, deploy deterrent forces, back the aggressor, or press your own claims and decide at the final step whether to give the order to attack.
  • World War III only begins when two superpowers end up fighting on opposite sides. Whether that happens is shaped by the choices of every nation, including yours.

Build a Nation

  • National focus trees: a broad general tree and a unique tree for Turkey, with mutually exclusive paths, national spirits and long-term strategies.
  • Industry and production: civilian and military factories, production lines that grow more efficient over time, building slots and construction queues.
  • Resources and trade: oil, steel and rare earth elements drive your war machine. Shortages slow production, and fuel keeps your tanks and aircraft moving.
  • Politics: political power, stability, war support, laws, decisions, a cabinet of advisors, elections and the ever-present risk of a coup.
  • Research: six technology branches tied to the calendar, with penalties for researching ahead of your time.

Wage War with Realistic Limits

  • Draw fronts, plan multi-target offensives, build up planning bonuses and assign generals with their own skills and traits.
  • Terrain, fortifications, supply lines, morale and encirclement decide battles.
  • Every nation has a realistic power projection range and convoy capacity. Crossing the sea requires ports, and landing on a hostile coast requires amphibious capability and naval superiority in the region.
  • Conquest follows geography: territory far beyond your borders returns to its original owner at the peace table.
  • Command air wings for air superiority, close air support and strategic bombing.
  • Launch ballistic and cruise missiles, and hold the ultimate deterrent: nuclear weapons, with retaliation and the threat of nuclear winter.

Diplomacy, Espionage and Deterrence

  • Trade agreements, non-aggression pacts, military access, alliances, independence guarantees, arms aid and sanctions.
  • Prepare justifications for war, negotiate peace terms, force capitulations or settle for a white peace.
  • Run covert operations: cyber attacks, sabotage, propaganda and wildfires in 38 real forest regions, always at the risk of exposure.
  • Seize, restore or loot 54 real historical landmarks, from Topkapı Palace to the Pyramids.

Many Ways for History to End

Every game ends for a reason. It can be long or short, and it is shaped by the decisions you make:
  • Global hegemony
  • Victory of the Western or Eastern bloc in World War III
  • An armistice after a deadlocked world war
  • Nuclear apocalypse
  • The collapse of your state
  • A long peace kept alive by diplomacy until 2035
  • The judgment of history in 2040
When your game ends, a timeline of its key events shows exactly how the world got there.

A Living World

  • Over 200 AI nations make their own decisions about national focuses, industry, research, alliances and wars.
  • Missions appear as the situation changes and reward you for building up, making deals and holding the line.
  • Army experience lets you upgrade entire unit types, and veteran divisions earn ranks.
  • Detailed statistics track your industry, army, territory and the state of the world over time.

Easy to Learn, Hard to Master

New to grand strategy? A step-by-step guide walks you through every system. When war breaks out, an emergency guide shows you exactly where to click to set up fronts, generals, production and defenses. Contextual hints, alerts and an in-game manual are always one click away, and experienced players can switch the guidance off at any time.

Atmosphere

  • A rotating 3D globe in the main menu with flashpoints, tension arcs and country briefings.
  • 3D effects on the map: missile trails, explosions, air sorties, burning forests and mushroom clouds.
  • Low-poly 3D unit models, a day and night cycle and a tilted 3D camera.
  • An original soundtrack that shifts between peace, war and World War III, with air raid sirens, nuclear alerts and a living battlefield soundscape.

Play in Your Language

Fully localized into 11 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Turkish. The game detects your system language automatically, and you can switch at any time in the settings. 15 Steam achievements reward conquest, industry, diplomacy, deterrence and every way the story can end.

Age of Borders is a work of fiction. Its scenario, events and outcomes are imagined and do not represent predictions or political positions.
