What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Online networking can be quite difficult to always get right on the first try, and I want to identify those problems before the game officially publishes. It's also a deduction game which can be tricky to balance without player feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“5 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More content once the networking and bugs are figured out, and some evolution to the game based on player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“A playable level with the logic needed to test out the different components.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“With frequent posts on the planned changes, fixes, and asking the community for feedback.”

About This Game

Somewhere in the North Pole's org chart, below the toy factory, below the reindeer stables, below the mailroom that handles complaint letters from parents, there's a department nobody wants to work in: the Restitution & Gifting Bureau, C.O.A.L. Division.

Its job is simple, on paper. Certain entities, the kind with claws, ritual circles, or an unfortunate history involving water, have technically qualified for the Nice List. Someone has to deliver their presents. That someone is you.

C.O.A.L. Division is a 1–4 player co-op horror-comedy investigation game. You play a very small elf in a very large, very haunted house, tasked with figuring out exactly what's stalking the halls before it catches you standing still.

Investigate like your shift depends on it.
Search the house for clues, scorch marks, warped floorboards, locked cases with something missing, and use Bureau-issued gadgets to narrow down what you're actually dealing with. Nothing hands you the answer. You'll be cross-referencing your findings against the Elf Field Handbook, a document written by someone even more exhausted by this job than you are.

Small elf, big house.
You're scaled to the environment, not the other way around. Furniture becomes terrain. The gap between a desk and a chair is a jump you have to commit to. And if you miss it, the noise you make doesn't go unnoticed.

The house is not empty.
Every sound you make, every second you spend somewhere you shouldn't be, brings you closer to its attention. What starts as background footsteps can become considerably more personal.

Get the gift right. Or don't.
Once you've worked out what it is, and what it actually wants, it's time to build the present, pulled together from a shelf of surplus junk, off-brand ingredients, and whatever the Bureau couldn't be bothered to organize properly. Get it right, and the case closes. Get it wrong, and you learn firsthand why the Nice List isn't the same thing as harmless.

Key Features

  • Co-op investigation for 1–4 players : split up, compare notes, and hope somebody was paying attention when it mattered.

  • Deduction-driven gameplay : identify entities through physical evidence and gadget readings, not guesswork.

  • A living reference document : the Elf Field Handbook, an in-universe guide players actually have to use.

  • Elf-scale traversal : navigate human-sized environments using the furniture itself as your level design.

  • A tension system that remembers what you did : noise, proximity, and time all feed into how much danger you're actually in.

  • A crafting system built on deduction, not menus : the right gift only exists if you actually solved the case.

The developers describe the content like this:

The game is dark humor and often jokes or shows Christmas elves, killed by the various monsters in the game. It also is designed to have some scary moments.
