Sugar is illegal, the bakeries are shut, and Christmas tastes like nothing. But Grandma's recipe book survived. Bake in the back room with up to four players, sell at the back door, and keep the Department of Sugar Affairs out of your kitchen.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Cookie Cartel is a co-op game, and co-op games only get good with real groups. We want to watch you bake, argue and run as a team of four, and shape the game around that. The core is in place; now it's about depth, balancing and content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're planning for about a year. If you pull us in a direction that needs more time, we'll take it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Planned: more districts with turf wars between gangs, new cooking stations and recipes, more effects, a rank system and employees who sell for you. Plus Steam achievements, more languages and a lot of polish. What exactly makes it in also depends on your feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The full loop is playable: buy sugar on the black market, bake, sell at the back door, launder money through laundromat, casino and bank, and stay ahead of the DSA. Online and local co-op for up to four players, over 200 ingredients, a heat system with inspections and raids. Expect bugs and parts that don't look finished yet.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price gradually as the game grows. Getting in early is the cheapest way in.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through Discord, the Steam forums and regular dev streams on Twitch. We read along, play with you and rebuild what doesn't work. Bigger changes get announced first so you can weigh in.”

About This Game

SINCE THE SUGAR BAN, CHRISTMAS SMELLS LIKE NOTHING

The state seized the supply and closed the bakeries. What's left is a handwritten recipe book in a backyard kitchen.

YOU BAKE IN THE DARK

Covered windows, an oven that's too loud, and sugar you have to source on the black market. Every ingredient changes what comes out the other end.

AND SOONER OR LATER THE DSA KNOCKS

Smoke rises, neighbours talk, your heat goes up. When the Department of Sugar Affairs is at your door, you get about ten seconds to decide.

THE MONEY IS DIRTY

Cookies for cash, and the cash smells of cinnamon and trouble. So nobody asks where it came from, you launder it: laundromat, casino, bank, detours. Otherwise the state takes its cut.

FOUR PEOPLE IN A KITCHEN BUILT FOR ONE

One bakes, one sells, one keeps watch. The register is shared, and whether everything is still in it at the end of the night is between the four of you.

WHAT'S IN IT

  • Online and local co-op for up to four players

  • Crafting from raw ingredient to finished cookie

  • Heat system with DSA inspections and raids

  • Money laundering through laundromat, casino and bank

  • Black market for sugar and banned ingredients

  • Effects that change you and your customers

  • English and German, freely selectable

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Pre-generated content: Generative AI tools were used during development to create parts of the game's art and audio. I'm Solo Dev dont blame me

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Cookie Cartel – Sugar or Die is a comedic crime game about running an illegal Christmas cookie operation. It contains cartoon-style slapstick violence: players throw dough at each other and at non-player characters, and rival bakers, "moms" and "grandmas" raid the player's kitchen with items like rolling pins and handbags. There is no blood, gore or realistic injury. The game's story and tone are inspired by crime and gangster themes (illegal selling, "dirty money", rival gangs) played for humor, with the cookies as the contraband. There is no sexual content, nudity, drug use or realistic depiction of alcohol abuse or self-harm. Customer names can come from a streamer's Twitch chat, so names displayed in the game may be user-generated.
