What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Odyssey Wars is an early, evolving game made by one developer, and it is a long way from what it will become. The core idea is in place: command a fleet from above, or drop into the cockpit and fly any ship yourself, across a galaxy that grows as players push outward. Almost everything around that idea is still open: how the economy should feel, how hard fights should be, which systems deserve more depth and which should be cut, what the online galaxy should reward, and how the game should look and sound.

I would rather make those decisions with the people who actually play it than guess at them alone. Early Access lets players try the game as it stands, tell me what works and what does not, and change where it goes. I also expect the game to get a substantial overhaul as it grows and as I build a team, and I want players involved from the start so the things they come to love are kept.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At least a year, and quite possibly longer. As a solo developer I would rather be honest that this is a long road than promise a date I might not keep. Development updates will be posted regularly so players can judge the pace for themselves, and this estimate will be updated if it changes.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to be a much larger and more polished game, and for what goes into it to be shaped by player feedback. Areas we plan to grow or rework include:

- More story content, factions and encounter variety
- Deeper ship building and fleet customisation
- More kinds of cooperative Operations and a larger, more populated shared online galaxy
- Missions, research, construction and other systems shared properly between players online
- Player-piloted combat in the Versus arena mode
- Better visuals, audio and interface, and wider hardware and ultrawide support
- Balance for ship classes, the economy and difficulty, tuned from real play

A major overhaul is likely along the way. If that happens, the aim is to keep what players are used to, the feel of commanding and flying your fleet, while rebuilding what needs rebuilding.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable, but early. Expect rough edges: placeholder art and interface in places, balance that will change, missing features and bugs.

What you can do today: command a fleet in real-time strategy view with formations and stances, or fly any ship in first person; fight with projectiles, missiles, torpedoes and countermeasures; travel a 48-system galaxy with jump travel; mine, trade in a supply-and-demand market, build ships in a shipyard and a modular builder, research upgrades, take missions and bounties, and play an authored solo campaign with recorded voice lines.

Online play (player versus environment) is the least tested part: co-op sessions and a shared online galaxy where you can see other commanders, fight pirates together, trade, chat, form squads, take on Operations alone or as a squad, and help chart new star systems. Some systems, such as missions, research and construction, still run separately on each player's machine rather than being shared. The Versus arena lets each player command an AI team.

Your feedback helps decide what gets built and fixed next.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price is likely to rise when the game leaves Early Access, to reflect the added multiplayer and campaign content. If you buy during Early Access you keep the game and every update at no extra cost. The shared online galaxy also has an optional currency, Aether, bought through Steam, that only saves time: everything it speeds up can be earned by playing, and because the online galaxy is player-versus-environment only, it never buys an advantage over other players.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players will directly shape what gets built. I will read the Steam discussions and community hub, post regular development updates explaining what changed and why, and ask players which areas they want improved first. The biggest decisions, such as how the economy, the online galaxy and any future overhaul should work, will be put to the community before they are made.

Bug reports are especially valuable: the game can write a support package containing its logs and settings, so a report carries everything needed to find and fix the problem. Feedback will be answered, and the roadmap will be kept up to date so everyone can see what moved and what did not.”

About This Game

One fleet. Two ways to fight.

Odyssey Wars is a space RTS and a first-person space sim running on one simulation. Command your fleet from the strategic view - drag-select, formations, stances, attack-moves - then drop into the cockpit of any ship in that fleet and fly it yourself, while the rest of your ships keep taking your orders.

Forty-eight star systems

Every system loads as its own instance: a real star, planets with atmosphere rims and ring shadows, asteroid belts, stations, and nebulae you can fly into. Line up a jump and your whole fleet travels with you, dropping out at the edge of the destination system.

Run an economy, not just a war

  • Mine Metals, Ice and Crystals with automated mining ships

  • Trade into a supply-and-demand market that your own hauling moves

  • Build and fit hulls in the shipyard, and unlock new doctrine through research

  • Take bounty contracts, escort work and salvage

  • Gain and lose standing with five powers: the Terran Republic, the Mythraen Collective, the Sentinal Order, the Federation and the Void Corsairs

A voiced campaign

An authored solo story runs across five faction routes plus an unaligned path, with objectives well beyond "destroy the target" - timed evacuations, fighting retreats, surveys, and fronts you have to commit to. Over 650 lines of recorded dialogue.

Bring friends, or host the server yourself

Play co-operatively over Relay or a direct connection, or run your own dedicated server - the server kit ships with the game. Versus Team Control adds a four-team arena where each commander directs a team from the strategic view.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The campaign's spoken dialogue is AI-generated speech. Over 650 lines were produced with ElevenLabs under a paid plan that licenses commercial use of the output. I wrote every line of that dialogue myself - the writing is mine, the performance is synthetic. I would prefer human voice actors and intend to replace these recordings when the project can afford it.

No AI-generated art ships in the game. Every ship, station and environment mesh is either licensed art or made by me. A set of AI-generated 3D models was removed from the project in July 2026.

The combat and zone music tracks are AI-generated songs I made with Suno on a paid plan that grants commercial-use rights to the output. The remaining music and all sound effects are licensed audio packs and my own work.
