What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Exodus Directive is a slow, systemic survival game: you are the ship AI carrying humanity's last colonists to Kepler-442b. Power, air, water, food, hydrogen, research and crew all depend on each other, and small balancing changes ripple through the whole voyage. That kind of game gets better with players in the loop. Early Access lets us tune the economy, the difficulty and the pacing with real feedback instead of guesses, and lets players shape which systems grow next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect about 12 to 18 months. We would rather extend Early Access than ship an unfinished voyage, and we will keep players informed through regular dev logs on Steam.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to include:
- The complete fleet of ten ship classes, from the lifeboat to the Ark, each with its own way of surviving (solar, hydrogen, nuclear-thermal propulsion and more).
- All twelve chapters of the voyage, polished and balanced, with a finished ending sequence on Kepler-442b.
- Late-game ships where the colonists can no longer sleep in cryo and whole farm decks have to feed them.
- Deeper research, more modules and more programmable automation through the in-game language Cinder.
- Steam achievements and cloud saves.
- Ongoing balancing, polish and translations based on community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build is fully playable from launch to arrival:
- Two playable ships: the lifeboat (solar powered) and the freighter (no solar panels, runs entirely on hydrogen).
- A full hydrogen economy: fuel cell with wear, servicing and platinum recovery, an electrolyzer that turns hydrogen and water back into oxygen, and a refinery that turns hydrogen into fuel. All of it heats the reactor core and has to be balanced.
- Gas giant diving: layered atmospheres with zones, turbulence and a tear line where the hull gives way. Ship mass, fuel and hull all matter.
- Mining on planets, rings and moons: drones fly out to the moons of gas giants and back, and recalling them before a jump matters.
- Automation with the in-game language Cinder: ship-wide programs that react to departures and jumps, drone and farm automation, and live ship values to script against.
- A permanent research web with long-term projects such as the hydrogen drive, carried by the AI from ship to ship.
- AI cores as save slots: every AI keeps its own knowledge across flights. Easy mode keeps everything; Hardcore loses research in progress when a voyage fails.
- A knowledge handbook that tracks which modules this AI has ever built, while undiscovered lost technology stays hidden.
- Twelve chapters through real star systems, farming, a weight-based cargo system and a terminal-driven ship.
- English and German.
Expect rough edges in balancing and some placeholder art. Most ship classes beyond the first two are still in development.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. The price will stay the same during and after Early Access. Everyone who buys during Early Access gets every future update, including the full fleet and all chapters, at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“- Regular dev logs on Steam with what changed and what comes next.
- The Steam discussion forums for bug reports, ideas and balancing feedback.
- A shared community counter: every colonist players save is added to one global number shown in the game.
- In-game signal beacons let players leave short messages for other ships in each star system.
- Player feedback directly decides priorities, for example which ship or system gets built next.”

About This Game

Earth burns behind you. Ahead lies only darkness, a ship, and the last few who escaped.

We used our world up for comfort. The machines took our work, then our purpose, and in the end they saw us only as a flaw. When Earth died, one way out remained: the Exodus. You are the Ferryman of the Last, and your ship is all that is left of humanity.

Keep the last ones alive

EXODUS DIRECTIVE is a bleak generation-ship survival sim. You do not command your ship with mouse clicks, but through a real onboard terminal. Every command counts: power, air, water, food, heat. One mistake, and people die.

Your terminal, your rules

  • Run the ship through a real command line and its onboard language, CINDER

  • Manage life-critical systems: air filter, water recycler, power, cargo and weight

  • Mine resources, research new technology and expand your ship module by module

  • Program drones: write small programs that automate your farm or your mining

  • Go deeper: an optional root and hacking layer for those who want more

  • Travel through a system of unique celestial bodies, each rendered in 3D and scannable

You are alone. But not alone.

There is only one Earth, and the whole community empties it together. Every ferryman who departs takes a part of humanity with them. Through the echoes of other survivors, you feel that you are not the only one crossing the dark.

How many will you save before the lights go out?

Fully playable in English and German.
