What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Please note it is very important that you read below before deciding if you want to support HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed this early.

HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed is an incomplete game in PRE-ALPHA.

You are likely going to experience issues and possible disruptions when playing HC:U. If you do not want to actively support development of the game and cannot cope with interruptions then it may not be for you.

Your feedback is sincerely appreciated and helps steer us into the right direction. We are developing the game with full transparency and we’ll shape it into something special that is based on what you want. While the game is in Early Access, we endeavor to sustain a high quality of experience for our players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming to be out of early access within 6 months. We'll be updating you guys with content updates as much as possible and keep you in the loop. Development plans may change depending on feedback we receive from the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We have many plans for where we want to take Unboxed, and heading into Early Access allows us to directly interact and listen to your feedback. With the voice of our community, development plans may change, but either way we’ll be sure to update you with what’s in store. Our plans are to focus on these major areas:

More enemies! More maps! More characters! More weapons! More defences!

Class-based character system
We will constantly build on our cooperative gameplay, adding distinct stats, abilities and class-based playstyles is just the first step towards that.

Trading card ‘Power-ups’
Putting more power in your hands, well.. your deck. Trading Card power ups will change the game dynamically by introducing new methods to assault your enemies, provide support and traverse the world.

Boss NPC's
Whilst each of our enemies pose a new threat and bring different mechanics to bear, we'll be mixing up the dynamic with new end of wave Bosses. These deadly foes will require teamwork and coordination to overcome; live together, die alone.

Endless Mode!
Warning: Only for true masochists. Fight for survival against a limitless horde.

Competitive leaderboards and high scores
I mean, you want some way to the world how great you are, right?”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is very stable and you will have access to the core features of the game. These range from the following:

- 4 player online & local co-op
- Fortify and defend against hordes of enemies
- 9 unique enemy types
- Over 100 cosmetic options
- 3 maps, 5 weapons”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of Early Access will be lower than the price of final released version. The final price of the game will increase based on the contents and value of the game. We also have plans to reward those who have been with us from the beginning.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Without our Community we are nothing. That is why we will consistently monitor and respond to player feedback. It’s extremely important to us that we allow you to be a part of the development process. We are developing Unboxed together as a team. Progress on the game can tracked through our Early Access roadmap which allows you to see exactly what we’re up to. There are also many other methods in how you can provide feedback . Please see our Early Access Feedback Guide below.

Development Progress – Early Access 2.0

Hey Action Figures,

Straight to the not so good news. As you already have guessed, we didn't manage to release Early Access 2.0 for the end of May. We’re very sorry. We thought we could have pulled it off and shipped out the update, but it would not have been workable to do so.

I realise I may sound like a broken record, but please remember the announcement shown below. We are battling on after now being a much smaller team, many of us working full time jobs, you get the idea. Development and workflow has increased, despite delays and huge setbacks, so we are moving forward.
Now onto the good news. We are digging deep and making some gargantuan changes to HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed. Please see below our progress. NOTE: There are much smaller things we’ve added / changed to the game which may not be shown here. I’ll probably add more bits to this announcement, so keep your eyes peeled. It is looking very likely what is shown below will come with the update, should everything keep going to plan. Worse comes to worst, some bits may have to be delayed.

When will Early Access 2.0 be released?
We’re most likely looking at the end of July. Sorry!

What will be in Early Access 2.0?
  • New UI and HUD that is much more intuitive and user friendly.

  • Better looking animations and particle effects

  • Basic unlock system - you'll have to earn your skins

  • New maps, weapons and enemies

  • Huge optimisation, this includes faster loads times, higher framerates, bug fixes and more

  • Fully implemented Split-Screen support

  • Improved optimisation for sounds

  • New dynamic music system

  • Difficulty Modes

New & Updated Maps

Other cool stuff:

You'll have to find attachments for your weapon by searching the enviroment. This further encourages you to explore.

Particle Effects

When fighting the enemy, you'll notice some cool sparks and what not. It adds so much more to the fun factor of firing your weapon.

New Pathing

Enemies will attack from many places. Behind bookshelves, on top of pipes, and so on.

If you remember this announcement, we went into detail concerning the core gameplay and how the way you play will be spiced up. You'll no longer defend just 1 Core, but instead 3.

We've found it creates a new dynamic to the gameplay, especially adding on the fact enemies will attack from all over the place! Teamwork becomes more important and the placement of your Turrets are to be strategic. You must search for attachments for your weapon as each wave progresses. In other words, it's already very FUN. There are more awesome bits and bobs which I'll talk about in another announcement.

Once again, we are very sorry for the delay. We haven't stopped working on Unboxed and are putting everything into it. We honestly are. Pretty much all of you are being so patient with us and we cannot thank you enough, that's what you call true support and real fans. It's much appreciated and keeps motivating us.

I'll be posting WIP content more frequently, so keep your eyes peeled!

Keep on defending,
Digital Cybercherries Ltd.

Development Update - WIP Maps!

Hi everyone,

I hope you’ve all had a great weekend so far.

Firstly, for those wondering why there has been lack of updates, please take a look at our previous announcement:
Some of you might be thinking, the maps shown below look very different to what we have currently been playing? There is a reason for this. Before we jump straight to the screenshots, I’d like to explain our plans for the next new environments, in relation to gameplay.

The biggest challenge Unboxed faced was fundamentally, its core gameplay. Currently, the mechanics essentially involve players defending a Core from a "line formation of enemy A.I". This may seem well and dandy, but it does not offer much diversity.

I’ll be brutally honest with you. We focused far too much on the aesthetics rather than gameplay, or more to the point, the fun factor. Our new target is to allow much more scalability, freedom of movement, to be able to traverse the environment while defending your objective.

Enemies will attack more dynamically, charging from different angles, spawning from areas that pose a threat. It’ll be chaotic, you’ll have to navigate the level wisely and strategically place your turrets and traps. There is going to be more interaction with the enviorment. The objective is still to defend a Core (although we have some ideas to maybe alter this) – but the placement of it will complement the gameplay.

I’m not bashing Unboxed or what we have created thus far, I just don’t want to mislead you with nonsense. As I have said multiple times before, you can expect nothing but transparency from us.

We’ve listened to much of your feedback and many of you have such great ideas. We will be implementing some of them as times goes by.

We have a new direction and vision for the game and look forward to working with our community to make it become a reality. Once we put in place the foundations that make the game way more fun, add your ideas and suggestions, polish areas that need it, that is when we will begin to advertise Unboxed more.

Keep up your awesome work and thank you for supporting us! - Joe

Psssh, hey you. Yes you! You read this far huh? Well then, here are 8 HC:U Steam keys to give to your friends. Thanks for being epic!

Best regards,
Digital Cybercherries Ltd.

“A very impressive co-op first person tower defense shooter that answers that age old question – what if Toy Story had guns in it?”
Alpha Beta Gamer

“As it stands HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed is a short but fun nostalgia trip to play with friends”

“A Promising Wave-based Shooter”

We've listened to your feedback and implemented the most requested features asked for. Please view the full Change Log to see all of the changes.

More freedom to build. You are no longer limited to set positions when it comes to placing your defences. Within the grid, players can now place their turrets and traps almost anywhere on the floor.

Watch out for those Helicopters that drop deadly bombs on top of you. Be also vigilant as the Army Man Jeep has a powerful .50 Cal Machine Gun and is ready to destroy you!

You can now upgrade your Turrets with the credits earned by surviving waves and destroying enemies.

Damage and slow down your enemies by placing devastating traps that will help you survive each wave.

Players can now benefit from the improved loadout system while being able to choose from any 3 buildables they like.

It doesn't end here. We are developing the game with our community and can't wait to show you what's on the shelf for our next update.
