About This Game

Seven phases. One turn. No shortcuts.

Clash of Crests is a turn-based medieval hex wargame for 2 to 8 players, built as a love letter to the 1980s hex wargames. Every turn runs the same seven phases: Bow Fire, Crossbow Fire, Siege Weapons, Movement, a second Bow volley, Melee and Recovery. Units that move can't fire. Height grants combat column bonuses. Charging past a pikeman costs you dearly. Plan two phases ahead, or watch your line break before it reaches the enemy.

Fog of Orders: nobody sees your plan until steel meets steel

Fog of war hides the enemy. In multiplayer, Fog of Orders hides every side's moves until the moment of contact. Up to 8 leaders can play hotseat at one keyboard, with a hand-off screen that hides the board between turns, or fight over LAN or online. Each player brings their own color, army and point budget.

Your losses march with you

Five campaigns chain battles into one war, and the knights you lose stay lost. Keep your veterans alive, or finish the war with peasant levies.
  • The Raven's War: A noble house fractures. Lead loyalists or rebels across five linked battles. Free in the demo.
  • Blood and Stone: Castle sieges decide this war. Hold the walls, or spend lives to breach them.
  • Order of the Lance: A crusading order pushes deep. Your knights are your edge, so keep them breathing.
  • The Gospel Road: Guard civilians and supply mules on a pilgrim route full of ambushes.
  • The Long Road: Lead a Marauder Horde through five brutal steppe chapters with mounted Horse Archers.

70+ units. 17+ scenarios. Named knights and kings.

Field King Richard, King Phillip II and named knights like Sir Conrad and Sir Gaston, all the way down to Peasant Levies and Pack Mules. Build your army on a point budget, assign siege weapons, watercraft and special equipment, then pick from 17+ built-in scenarios or load community-built maps.

A battlefield that fights back

Fire spreads, and flaming ammunition hits at +2 attack. Siege weapons smash hexes into rubble, and mounted cavalry must dismount to cross it. Siege towers crawl to the wall before the drawbridge drops, and scaling ladders take the walls hex by hex. Goblin warbands, dragons like the Iron Wyvern, and a Sea Wyrm can join the fight. They aren't scripted: terrain, campaign state and a roll of fate decide when they come.

Story Mode

First blood. The cavalry charge. The gate giving way. Story Mode watches the battle and marks every turning point with a written narration on parchment. Optional, and you can toggle it any time.

Build. Mod. Expand.

The built-in Map Editor lets you place terrain, walls, towers, villages and siege platforms, then export your battlefield as a shareable file. Addon packs install community units and scenarios from a single .zip file with no restart, and new factions appear in the army builder right away. Take the war further with three DLCs: Wallace, The Lion of the North; Eaters of the Dead; and Dangers and Wonders.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some of the artwork in Clash of Crests was produced with generative AI image tools and then cropped, composited, retouched and finished by the developer. This includes unit and character portraits, faction crests, campaign banners and key art, and some environment and prop art. Parts of the in-game lore and flavour text were drafted with AI assistance and then edited by the developer. Nothing is generated by AI while you play: all content ships with the game as fixed, pre-made assets.
