What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is in an Alpha state. Adding heroes and biomes is extremely easy at the moment, so I will be doing this for a while, but I also want to tweak and change systems. I'd love to get some feedback from people actually playing and shift the game in that direction.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 6 months, so around March 2027. That estimate is built around the part that is still missing, the end-game, and it may shift a little with what players ask for, but the plan is not to stay in Early Access indefinitely.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version I hope to have enough content for very long plays. This means more systems, heroes, items, uniques, etc.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Everything described in “About This Game” is implemented and playable now. In detail:
• 13 heroes, plus a 14th in the optional Supporter Pack, each with four skills and its own talent tree.
• Short runs across 19 biomes, at least 40 floors deep, with boons on every level-up, bosses such as the Bone Serpent, and a multi-phase megaboss on floor 20.
• Loot and crafting: gear drops, 16 materials, a forge, and 21 charms to collect.
• A town that persists between runs: 4 buildings to raise and villagers who gather materials while you fight.
• Attribute points, 18 Steam achievements and a global Steam leaderboard.
• Full controller support, in English, Spanish and French.
What is not in yet is the end-game: the final boss, and a strong reason to keep pushing past the deepest floors.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I will keep it free. I may add DLCs or whatever with cosmetics for support in the future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players decide a large part of what comes next. The end-game is deliberately unbuilt so that feedback can shape it: what the final boss fight should be, how deep runs should go, which heroes and biomes are added next, and how talents, gear and difficulty are balanced.
I read the Steam Discussions and reviews and reply there. Patch notes go out as Steam announcements and say which changes came from player suggestions. When there is a real choice to make, like the next hero or biome, I will put it to a vote in the Discussions. You can also reach me on the game's Community Hub.”

About This Game

I've always wanted to keep some progression when playing a Survivors game. Something that, after a good run, gives you some results. So this is a Survivors game, but with gear that you can loot and craft, a town that you can upgrade, villagers, talent tree, stat trees.
I'm completely inept, so I've used AI all the way here. It's been fun, but I want to be clean about it, out of respect, so you can skip the game if you have any problem with this. It isn't diffusion art though, it's text based, so I haven't used a model trained on someone else's art for this. Everything was made with Claude, plain text, and I've edited some of the art and numbers by hand after, and by some I mean very little.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Goliath Rogue was made with the help of generative AI. The 2D art, the music and the sound effects were AI-generated — some of the art was then retouched by hand — and the Spanish and French translations were AI-assisted. All of it ships as fixed assets in the game; nothing is generated while you play. AI coding tools were also used during development to help write the game's code.
